Lmao at the people who voted for women, poor people, and minorities. Here's to hoping those were sarcastic votes.

The religious right has quite a bit of power when we are suppose to have separation of church and state.

Yeah — I put those up there to highlight the ridiculousness of the idea that those groups could somehow have too much power. If you pay attention, though, there are people who regularly make arguments based on the assumption that these groups DO have too much power. Which shows that people will do just about anything to achieve their ends.

I'm a little surprised how few people seem to realize the HUGE and largely unchecked power of the Military/Industrial Complex or PACs and other "political money" groups.

I agree in general - except that I see almost no evidence of religious power. Religions leaders have some influence but no actual power. Every can opt out - and it seems to me that most have opted out.

Someone really believes poor people have too much power? Odd.

To me, influence is simply an indirect form of power. I think religions have a LOT of influence over politics in this country. For just one example, do you think Prop 8 would have passed without the efforts of socially-conservative churches?

As for opting out, according to a recent Gallup poll, 69% of American consider themselves "very" or "moderately" religious; 20% of Americans still go to church every week. That's a lot of folks!

ALL of these options only have power if you give them power. You can take that power back at any time.

I was thinking the same thing. WTF? Those three groups have the least power in our country.

The rich and the fucking banks and bankers (and the congressmen they own) have the most. "Too big to fail." Cripes.

But, you can always just say NO to family. You can't to the rich and those who own and run large corporations.

Gun, if religious groups didn't have so much power we would not still be arguing about contraception, whether or not employer insurance pays for it, choice, and GLBTQ rights in 2013.

THEY (religious groups) are responsible for the stagnation of our social progress in these areas and others.

Let me know how I can "take back" my power over the bank telling us our house is worth LESS than what we owe on it. I'd do it in a minute. Tell me how my neighbor can get health insurance from her husband's employer, since the employer has less than 50 employees (and drives a Jaguar) and hides under the law and his "we won't be able to hire anybody if we have to provide insurance" excuse (and they haven't hired anybody, despite RECORD PROFITS in years anyway. They'd rather KEEP all their profits than do a damn thing for their employees, and they are just like virtually every other corporation, large or small.)

We're basically helpless under the yoke of the power the Rich have on us. Thinking otherwise is simply wishful thinking.

Big banks or the people that decide how much college should cost. It's ridiculous I have to pay the majority of the money I make each month to pay back student loans. Which leaves little to no money for rent/utilities, groceries/car insurance or a car. I understand having to pay for going to college, but I should be able to have a normal life after the fact. I don't think it's unreasonable to want to be able to have a place of my own or one that I share with only a few others, able to purchase groceries, and maybe afford to buy a few non expensive frivolous things a month.

I agree. It took me about 12 years to finally pay mine off completely and I think it's even worse today. Have you looked into Income-Based Repayment?
