Who here wears shoes in the house?

I'm in college. Floors are sticky with beer and other peoples semen. Therefore, being barefoot scares the CRAP out of me. Luckily, no one asks me to take off my shoes..

In normal, adult people houses, I'll gladly oblige if asked, but otherwise, I don't know what's on those floors! Icky!

And actually, I think I'd be pretty pissed if someone walked into my house without shoes. All our friends are hippies and track in dirt and booze and grime on their feet. It seems unhealthy... but Santa Cruz college culture is a little different than anywhere else.

I miss regular people!

I'm barefoot aw much as I possible. If I didn't have to wear shoes in stores, I would never buy them.

Well I don't wear shoes in my house because what's the point? But I do if I just went somewhere or am about to go somewhere. I never take my shoes off if I'm at someone elses house though, unless they ask me to. I honestly think it's rude to take shoes off in "public".

I usually will take off my shoes if the person who lives in the house has a "No Shoes" policuy. My Man doesn't pick up on social cues and I have to elbow him to get him to take off his shoes in other people's houses.

I tried for years to get him to take off his shoes in OUR house. He has huge feet (size 13) and I am usually barefoot or in stocking feet, and I don't like being stepped on. One of my PET PEEVES is when he takes his shoes off in the BEDROOM and leaves them there, so I stub my little toes on them when I get up in the dark. The damn things are like Gun Boats. My shoes are always off at the door or at least in the living room. He also is outside a lot and often has mud and other crap on his shoes and I just hate it. His mother said I "didn't train him" well enough when we were first married. *sigh* It's MY fault?

In the winter I have to wear either shoes or slippers downstairs, because My Man, for some reason is always dropping ice or dripping water all over the floors and I HATE damp socks. I have to change them as soon as I get a drop of water on them. (When My Man washes his hands or washes food to be cooked, he just FLINGS the water around, no where near a towel. So the floor gets wet and is wet until someone (ME) dries it or steps in it.) So, I tried to keep a basket of slippers and flip flops by the door, but nobody paid attention. As a result, my floors are often icky, if I don't wash them twice a day. I live with PIGS!!!!

Ugg, this is another one I have a hard time with. I personaly hate the feeling not having something on my feet.

For a few years in Iraq I got so use to having at least socks(with the exption of an shower) on it just feels odd not to. Needless to say Ive always got socks on, and from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed ive got some sort of shoes on. During the day at work I have my combat boots on, and then at home Ive got a pair of work boots. Every now and then ile settle for a pair of jymshoes, but thats rare.

We don't wear our shoes in our house but if we have to grab something, we might run through with them on if we can't get them off quickly.

In my own place, I like to go around in socks or bare feet if I know the floor is clean, but it's kind of unrealistic that my floors will ever be clean enough to not cover my socks or feet with cat hair. I have a couple pairs of shoes, flip flops and a pair of slip-on birkenstocks (so I can wear socks with them in the wintertime), that never see the light of day. So I have inside shoes and outside shoes, so I don't have to worry about tracking stuff from outside in, just spreading around the filth on the inside.

At other people's houses, I go by what they do. I have absolutely no problem taking off my shoes at another person's house. If I know I'm probably going to be taking my shoes off, I won't wear complicated lace-up boots and I'll make sure to be wearing pretty socks. I would avoid wearing sandals, though, because it kind of defeats the purpose of removing your shoes if the feet inside the shoes are just as dirty as the shoes themselves.

I can't wear shoes in the house. Asian families do not allow and never will.

If I think a house is dirty or I am not comfortable with the people in the house, I keep my shoes on. But in my house, I always just wear socks.

I don't like shoes on my floors because you don't know what you picked up outside. There are some people houses you do need shoes.

I do not like shoes very much at all. In other people's homes I look for clues as to what I should do. Do they have shoes on? Is there a bunch of shoes in an open closet or lined up along a wall near the door? What kind of situation am I walking into, a large house party or just a quiet evening with some friends? Has the person I'm with been here before, what are they doing?

It depends on the other person's preference. I grew up around Asian culture and lived in Hawai'i for a time so I tend to feel the need to take my shoes off. In my house it's slippers only past the entry hall.

I like being barefoot all the time. So my shoes come off no matter where I am.

If its dirty I will keep mine on, especially if the person inviting me has their shoes on. Otherwise I take my shoes off.

I almost never go barefoot anymore, I hate putting my dirty feet into clean socks and shoes. I have "indoor" shoes and outdoor shoes to keep the house cleaner.

I think the main reason we take our shoes off is because we lose them otherwise.

I do not wear shoes in houses, usually. I will wear shoes in my house in front of a mirror if I'm preparing an outfit. I was raised in a house of an OCD cleaner, inherited this, and well, um, you guys probably know by now I'm a Japanophile, so...yeah. In other people's houses, I remove my shoes to be polite. But if the house has a dirty floor, I usually try to keep shoes on.

I ALWAYS wear shoes whenever I leave my bedroom and if someone is a pig and their house looks dirty to me, I'm keeping my shoes on or I ain't entering!

I have a thing about germs and mess (as in dirty pig-sty mess). Ya feet are very porous.

If the house is spotless and I know the person is clean, I'll do the right thing and take my shoes off at the door.

I wear slippers in my apartment. We have a carpet that we don't want to mess up. No shoes allowed. At my parents house I tend to wear shoes just because the linoleum floor is ALWAYS dirty for some reason. They have two dogs that are constantly trekking outside and then back in the house, and it's just impossible to keep clean. If I don't wear shoes or my slippers I end up with black socks and/or feet.

I only wear shoes in my house occasionally, and never in someone elses'. If its not muddy, and my shoes aren't dirty, I don't take them off at my door. Mainly because I'm in and out of the house all day long.

I love my footwear - I've got New Rocks and I adore their every leathery crevice... but if it's snowy or wet outside, they come off when I'm in the house. They've basically got tire tread and they will make a hell of a mess.
Typically, I prefer to be barefoot, so it's not an issue to take my boots off.

We do different things actually, depending on our moods. We have inside and outside shoes. Flipflops and slip on shoes that we wear around the house, then there's a funky, cool wood basket that I keep by the back sliding doors full of outside flops. Sometimes we go barefoot and sometimes we wear socks. We have hardwood floors so they get cold easily.

With dogs and kids, dirt and grass are *going* to get tracked in, just means that I have to clean, clean, clean it!

It has never occurred to me to look at people's floors when deciding to take off my shoes or not. I usually just ask if the host wants me to.

My Man says, "You have the 'Male Inability to See Dirt' that's why." I really do, unless I'm pregnant, then I see dirt everywhere. Which is weird, because I'm a germophobe. I don't associate "dirt" with "germs." I run around barefoot outside, so "dirty floors" usually don't faze me too much.

I actually have real OCD and it doesn't make sense. I am afraid of germs, yet have no problem with "dirt." Sick people, though, I can't stand to be near them. Great attitude for a nurse. Which is one of the many reasons I'm not really working in hands on nursing right now.

Shoes-off seems to be pretty much standard here (though we always did so at home with my parents, too); it snows for about half the year, so everyone I have ever met takes their shoes off at the front door automatically - including cable techs, furniture delivery men, and the guy who reads my hydro meter (when he catches anyone in)!
