Would you ever consider meeting someone from EF?

Contributor: Darling Jen Darling Jen
So I'm not asking if you have, or if you will, but if you would consider it. And it could be anyone from the EF community, whether they work for it, contribute to the forums, or write reviews.

And as a follow up question, if you recognized someone from EF coincidentally (their face, voice, body, etc.) would you say "Hi! I'm ___ from EF!"

I've been wondering this for a while because I couldn't help but think "Damn, I wish these people were my friends in person. I could really use some people I actually get along with."

So for me, I'd totally consider it. I couldn't say that I would consider it for all users though. If they were regulars and we interacted plenty and that kind of stuff, I'd definitely consider it.

And I wouldn't be able to help myself if I saw someone in person like at the grocery store or something! "Hey, it's ___! Hi!!!"

It depends on who, I'd probably totally go for it if it's a high reviewer or they worked for them, or if it was a friend I've come to know well on here.

Depends on the person, of course. Generally speaking though, not particularly, other than for play parties or sex toy conventions.

There are a few I would like to meet in person, I believe it would be a great time.
If I were to recognize someone I might say hi, just depends on who it was.

Maybe a coffee date. The awkwardness would bother me more than anything else: getting over that 'yeah, we review sex toys' and into real conversation.

In my life there's always a possibility of something like that happening, so I certainly won't shut myself off from the idea.

I would love to work at EF damnit. Lol. In reality though, I wouldn't mind meeting the people I have become acquainted with. There are a few I would eb excited to meet. I think it would be fun to have the common ground of reviewing sex toys, because I feel comfortable about sex and I wish I could get some of my damn girlfriends to get their butts on here! They seem to like sex as much as me, but they don't want free sex toys.

For sure I'd love to meet a few EF'ers. Not just anyone would I agree to it, but if someone (although I don't see how) recognized me from here I would not mind it. I have recommended a few people to the site so I figure that technically I've already met a few EF'ers!

A few years ago this would've been a big giant no. But then I made a friend on Etsy who lived a few states away, and we met in person and even vacationed together, and are great friends. So now, definitely yes!

Initially I would also have said no but I am open to the possibility. It would be fun to talk face to face with like minded people.
One of my friends figured out who Liz2 really is, at first I was uncomfortable but nothing negative came of it. But she never joined.....

I would consider it, but it would be very situational.

I voted yes, but it still would depend on who and where, and how etc.

LOL, some of my friends bring there friends over to see it! It's always a great time

I actually have never met someone that I met solely on the internet. I made plans to meet someone that I was on the same little site with when we found out we live in the same small college town. Our schedules have never been able to work, but I still would.

Oh ditto! I'd love to work for EF! And I've already tried talking my few sex-positive friends into joining the site and none of them did. So I completely understand the frustration.

I've met Carrie Ann. We went out to Starbucks for coffee. And hopefully we'll do it again soon because she's an awesome lady and we had a great time.

Well, I've met Carrie Ann, Victoria, Gary, Fred, Rufina, Ruslan, Maxim, Ilya and Yuriy but I suppose that's not so unusual since I work with them—although from 1000s of miles away.

Oh, and I've met Red Roulette on that same trip (and probably other people I am forgetting—I'm old, it happens).

I am all for meeting friends from the Internet when the opportunity presents itself, but the mom in me feels like I should say: be OVERLY cautious, trust those warning bells if you fell them and protect yourself—even if you DO feel totally safe. Safe calls, meet in public places, don't ever be alone with someone on the first visit, etc. etc.

We all seem like cozy friends here and the majority of us wouldn't hurt a fly, but I've been online long enough to know that people can really suck you in and get you to trust them—even make you feel guilty for being cautious.

Anybody worth meeting should be MORE than willing to provide identification or take part in any precautions you might ask them for.

OMG I would so love that....'cept I have this little imp that sits on my shoulder and I doubt I could stop him from blurting out, "SO how's that double dong working out for you?" Kidding, I can behave in public, I promise!

There are a few people I would absolutely love to meet. If I recognized somebody out and about in public, I might not say anything if they were with anyone, but if they were alone I might be all "hey, this might sound really weird, butt..."

I do have plans to meet at least one person that I've met on here this year tho.

Laurel: ... I've been online long enough to know that people can really suck you in and get you to trust them—even make you feel guilty for being cautious.

Exactly how my ex-husband got me (we met online back in the late 90's). Quick to say how silly I was being overly-cautious and all, and appealing to my romantic nature as well. To the point of wedding planning before we even met in person.

Excepting for him, the rest of my online-to-real-life friendships have been wonderful and we have been close for YEARS. Visiting each other has always been a pleasure, and it's great when we can ALL get together at conventions ... the creative insanity is as big as life and twice as pretty.

As I said, it's just that getting over the awkward part, then it'll be fine.

Yes! And it's worth repeating a second time!

Be cautious, everyone! Not just for people on this site. In fact, people on this site are probably not the ones worth being overly cautious over. Listen to that little warning voice in your head and if anyone pushes you or makes you feel guilty over being careful, they're not worth it. I've been poked and prodded and manipulated by people who wanted my cell phone number, address, and seeing me WAY before I was ready. Thankfully I freaked out in time and cut them off before anything could happen. But that's not how all stories end.

But on the same thread, it's definitely worth using the internet to try and meet new people. As long as you're cautious and safe, it can be an excellent source of friendship.

I definitely would. I see it on-par as my finding out about munches online first, then meeting people second. I think it would be fun to put a face and voice to the posts.

I would, but it's not a very foreign idea to me. I've met guys online a lot (online dating sites) and I play WoW so I've met quiet a few people from online. So I don't see why I wouldn't meet someone from EF. Now traveling far to meet someone is probably out, I don't like to travel hah.

Possibly. I've made friends online before, but I've never met any of them. It has never really been a priority for me though. If I just happened to be in the same city/town at the same time -- and if it was convenient and in a public place (and if I was with my husband if I am meeting a man), then a brief visit over coffee might be fun. For example, if I knew that someone with whom I have had friendly correspondence was visiting Las Vegas or some other place at the same time, then I would be more likely to suggest a brief meeting. But I'd never travel somewhere for the sole purpose of meeting them.

And, yeah . . . I'd love to see Lauren's and Carrie Ann's legendary collections in person, too . . . Perhaps they could open a museum some day! LOL!

I'd be down with meeting people, especially if there were an event in my area or within reasonable driving distance that I knew some EF folks would be attending. That would be a really great environment because everyone's there for their own reasons, and meeting online friends would just be a bonus ^_^
