Oh, society's definitely to blame. There are enough people who find any mention of sex to be crude, demeaning, dirty, etc. that they can cause real problems for the companies who produce sexy goodies. Granted, there are some views on it that I agree with (such as not exposing children to pornographic works) but other times I feel some people are taking things a little too far. But those people are vocal, more vocal than those of us who appreciate erotic works in whatever state, so producers of erotic works have to be very careful. Depicting sex between two loving, consenting adults, as long as no naughty bits show, is deemed safe (for certain ages.) The more artistic the rendering, the better: lovely music, soft focus, and a montage of shots for film; tasteful euphemisms for literature. Which, don't get me wrong, I love the more artistic erotica.
When it comes to authors, though, I don't really follow any particular erotic authors. (Possibly because I haven't found anyone who writes exactly what I love, so...yeah.) One of my favourite authors of mainstream fiction, Kelley Armstrong, usually includes some erotic moments in her adult series. And what's really fun is the amount of detail given depends on the character she's writing (each book is in first person, but each book revolves around a different character.) I'm just sad the series is ending likely next year She just released the second last book this month.

it is ignored, but i think its more the women reading them that has ignored it themselves. they always hide the books and what not.
