How long to wait before having sex.

Contributor: Marie Hanna Marie Hanna
Of course, this is a question that really does have many factors, but how long are you normally in a relationship before you start having sex? I find that for me its about three months on average, but it really depends on how comfortable I am with the person and how well we "click".

I'm also curious what makes you decide when is the right time.

I used to have a rule but I think it really depends on the people and what they feel.

Depends on how long you've known them before you started the relationship. A few dates are probably a safe choice, but it varies from couple to couple

Depends on how long I have known them. Most of my relationships come from friendships for the most part. Either way depends on how comfortable I am when around them and all that

My boyfriend and I waited 4.75 years because we had a distance thing. I haven't been in any other sexual relationships to tell. It really depends on the person. I have broken up with guys I dated and have had friends who broke up with them because guys expect it like the week after you get together (not literally but depending on the amount of time you spend together it can feel like it).

I think it depends on the situation. As an adult I have only had sex with people who I have been in established relationships with. One of them had been a friend for a long time so I don't even know how that would be counted. Another I met and dated for a couple weeks before doing anything (by dated I mean saw each other a total of 7 times) and my current partner I had been in an online relationship for a while before I had a chance to see him in person so by the time he got to me I was ready to jump his bones. In every instance it was more chemistry then time. The mood was right, the spark was there and we both knew it was going to happen.

For me it depends on the person. I'd say "whenever feels right", really, but I don't know if I could go months. I'm not that patient lol.

I waited for a couple of weeks with my husband and he has told me that he really respected that. Of course he tried to get into my pants for a while.

I was 14 when we started going out after 5 or 6 months there was a lot of petting and fondling but no sex until I turned 18. Since I've never sex with anyone else I have no other answer! !

With my first girlfriend, it was over 6 months after we started dating. I wanted to do it after a few weeks; she said she wanted to wait until marriage. But finally, she was ready.

With my next girlfriend, it took 3 months. This time, I wasn't sure if I wanted to even kiss her. She later told me, she'd been ready since our second date.

With my third girlfriend, and with the woman who's now my wife, we'd known each other for a couple of months, but we had sex on our first actual date.

With the one guy I've had sex with, we'd known each other for about 10 years. But it only took a few minutes after the subject of having sex was broached before we were doing it.

I'd say it depends a lot on the people and the situation.

My boyfriend and I waited a year. Then again he's the only guy I've ever been with. But if I was going to do it again I would choose the same path.

I've only had sex with two people, but it was less than a month in both cases. We also spent nearly all of our time getting to know each other before dating, and then spent all kinds of time together once we became 'official'.

It depends on the guy. My time range is anywhere from 2nd date to never. It also depends on if we actually date (go to dinner, go to the movies, etc) or if we just start "hanging out" (which tends to be my preferance). If we actually date the time is longer because it takes me longer to get to know the guy. If we just start "hanging out" it's usually quicker. And this is just because we both get to actually see what the other's life is like. So you tend to get more intimate quicker (not just sexually).

When I was younger it was on the first date if we clicked, as I got older usually after a few dates if he was worthy of a second/third date. When I met my hubby we waited until about 2 weeks before we got married, so we waited a little less than 2 yrs. Knew he was the one so I didn't wanna screw it up like I had by jumping the gun in the past. Best decision we could have made!

Whenever you're both comfortable! I don't think there's any reason to not have sex with someone just to meet a "normal time" bullcrap, just do what feels right. If you're someone to wait a while and your partner wants to wait too, wait. If you both want to sleep together the first day you meet, go for it. My partner and I knew each other online for 3 months and knew we were going to be amazing together, and the first day we met we had sex. I don't regret it in the least!
