We have been together two years and I have called it a long term relationship since the end of year one.

We've been married for 18 years. I consider anything over 10 years is a long term relationship.

We were friends first. Have been good friends for 20 years. Started a sexual relationship 13 years ago then went our seperate ways for a while and have been monogamous for 3 this time around. How about...it's complicated

It's hard to draw a concrete line on the matter but I figure once a relationship hits five years it can be considered long-term. I definitely don't consider anything under a year to be long-term. Not with the way 20-somethings these days think that any flaw a person may have is grounds for breaking up.

I think of long term in milestones. For me its once you hit the 10 year mark. but not many people get there anymore so I have been rethinking it to five years.

I've considered us to be long term since the first year. We are now almost at four years

I'd think anything after a year would be "long term". I compare "long term" to "dating". You don't really date someone for 2 years...you can, but what does that say to the commitment level?

I think "long term relationship" ends with marriage or civil union.

I base my definitions comparatively though - Just met, Hang out, Fool around, Date, Long Term Relationship (LTR), Marriage/Civil union, (Divorce)...repeat. I wouldn't hold anyone to these though (except myself).

I think anything over half your life is long term.... lmao!!
Seriously, I think it's when you are really, seriously committed to each other; I think it varies as well-depends on the couple, really.

I think many people will define "long-term" differently. In my humble opinion, it's not the number of years you HAVE lasted... It's your intention to last a lifetime that makes your relationship "long-term." My boyfriend and I have been together for less than two years (friends for four before that), but we consider ourselves "long-term" even when many others will not. This is because we don't plan on breaking up, ever, or even that awkward high-school concept of "taking a break." (Though for the record, we are 23 and 28, lol!) We have plans for the future like children, and we have even combined our life's dreams to include one another and their dreams. I think that certainly qualifies us to call our relationship, a long-term relationship.

I'd say anything over a year starts falling into the long-term category.

Been with my man 14 years. I think I thought of it as long term at around the 3-year mark.

I would of said 2-3 because 1 year I don't think is long enough

We were best friends for nearly six years before we got together. He was the first person I met when I moved to WI. We've been together for almost two years now though.

I'm of the opinion that "long term" is a type of relationship rather than a quantifiable quality. If you are intending to be together long term and share a life, then I would define that type of relationship as a "long term" relationship - the intent being that the relationship last... well... long term.

To me, "long term" is around 4 to 5 year mark. Though I've personally never had a relationship that long.

Once a couple hits one year together, dating or married or whatever, that is long term to me. But nothing before a year.

We've been together for 5 years now, but I think we became a long term thing after about 2 of those. I think long term just means that both parties want (and expect) it to last.
