Should I keep going with one site or should I try two?

Contributor: El-Jaro El-Jaro
So, I signed up for a full account on one site (POF) and it's turned into a total bust. I still have about 2 1/2 months on it. However, I'm thinking about trying out match too...but it's a lot more.

mostly chose it for the Brit tv reference.

Finish out your subscription and then try something else. There are also plenty of free options you can try in the interim, such as cupid.com, okcupid.com and plenty of others.

Finish off POF because yeah you paid for it then browse around some of the other free and paid sites. Some of the paid sites like to give you a preview and try to gain some insiight from there on whether or not they interest you. Some of the free sites are so so. I did one once and there were creepy people being way to forward on a first email. But your a guy so maybe it's different? I don't know . Maybe stick off online dating and go somewhere (not a bar) to meet someone. Like a bookstore or a gathering with mutual friends or get a hobby and meet someone through that. Sorry if this in no way helps you.

I was on the free side of POF for a while and wanted to know if anyone was reading the messages I sent them. Some were, most were just read/deleted.

Really, the biggest problem I've run into is getting almost no feedback at all. Also, some of the women are there are REALLY lazy with their profiles, just giving a little bit of info and nothing to work with. I have someone helping me with the intro emails (a female turncoat), but even then...no responses. I just think POF is for people just looking to hook up, people with really high expectations, and people who signed on and forgot about it.

...or I'm just rubbish with the ladies...

I didn't have much luck with POF either...well...actual ly that's how I met my boyfriend... I met this one guy and hung out with him and things didn't really turn out because he was just looking to hook up, but he introduced me to the guy I'm with right now.

I wouldn't have paid for it myself, but I would stick with it since you did.

You're not rubbish - you just have spirituality and intelligence deeper than a birdbath.

When it's presented as a meat market, those things aren't high on anyone's list.

I'd try both sites.

Every single male I know that has tried a dating service or website has eventually gotten a girlfriend — but never through the service.

I'd say dump the cyber-matchmaker and do something fun like a cooking or dance class (men are at a premium in every dance class I've ever attended), or go to a local meetup for something that interests you. You're just as likely to meet someone in that setting, and it's a more positive atmosphere than strangers — who may or may not be using real and/or recent photos — picking one another based on a few lines of text.

I chose "try something different". I like 'Petite Valentine' answer above. Do try something different. Dancing is not my game, but some other social outlet may work where there are more women. Does your church have a club or something that encompass your age group could also be a possibility. I've though about ChristianMingle.com as another website which you could check into! It's free!

JR? On Christian Mingle?

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, really. It just struck me as funny because, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that I remember JR saying something about being atheist or agnostic or something.

Now, now, JR. We have talked about this! POF is for hook-ups. You may or may not want to just hookup.. I'm pretty sure you are a relationship kinda man. I would definitely just "browse" POF since you still do have a subscription for two months, but look into the other free dating websites as well. I highly recommend match.com if you want to pay into that, but that is totally up to you.

I have SO read your profile. It is not you. Girls are hella picky. You know me with all my problems. Girls online are well.. slutty. You need to find the diamond in the rough. You need to find your gem. Your profile is perfectly fine. The messages you send to girls, they are perfectly fine. You word them AMAZINGLY. You are EXACTLY what girls "say" they want.

"Oh I want a guy with a good job! A car! His own place! He has to LOVE cats! He has to be funny! He has to be financially stable! He has to be sexy! He has to have time for me! OH OH and he has to like to sing drunken karaoke with me!"

You got it all, baby. I'd date the hell out of you. Our cats could have a playdate. Fidget makes me want another kitty.

You so need to not rebound anymore (if that was an issue) and meet some nice girls. No hookup sites. You are better than that. I promise that. You can even get out of the house and find a girl the old fashioned way before we had the interwebzz. You are an incredible person and I know you'll find your dream girl. If not -- we marry at 40. You'll get there a little quicker than I will You can kick my ass later for that last comment. -gives you a freebie-

Thanks for the suggestions. It was ~$35 for 3 months at POF and about that much for a full-price month at match, there are promotions though.

I do get out and hang out with friends on weekends (see profile banner), but I really don't see myself taking dance/cooking/taxiderm y classes. It's not a bad suggestion though, just not my cup of tea.

If anyone has a suggestion on a non-creepy way for a 6 foot tall, shaved head, nearly albino in paleness, kinda lanky guy to approach any girl in public, I'd appreciate it.

Comic shop. Bookstore. Nerd conventions (rare, I know). Free lectures on stuff that interests you.

Anyway, Lollypop and I might have to fight over you.

*sigh* I don't understand, I guess. I don't know what POF is. No idea how to respond.

OH! I should have read the entire thread. It's a dating site. I have a lot of friends who met through Match.com. One of my closest friends met her now-husband on Match. It took a few months, about 4 or 5 months, I think, for her to find what she wanted. But, the guy is great and she's really happy. They have a child together now. They even have a white picket fence, no kidding.

My mother met her second husband on an old fashioned "computer dating" service. Worked out very well.

Good luck, JR. You deserve a good woman!

Taking a class isn't a bad idea. However if it's not your cup of tea then it's not going to be the ideal place to meet someone.

Maybe there are some recreational centers around your area? (At least that is what they are called here. It's the community places where the pool is and other fun activities.) Maybe you could hang out with your friends at a place like that.

You could always try volunteering for something. So you can get out and about and meet different kinds of people.

I haven't used dating sites, but have actually heard good things about Plenty Of Fish. Maybe you should stick with both sites. It couldn't hurt to stay with it for a bit longer since you paid. Maybe continuing with it and another site will get you double results!

Kinda what I was thinking...

I think the thing that bugs me the most is women who try too hard to be attractive to guys. I REALLY doubt there are that many women who LOVE watching sports, going to games, going out and drinking beers...or I'm wrong and have been wise to avoid places like that.

I've really seen a lot more people playing stereotypes on POF. So far, it doesn't really seem to be worth the money I've spent on it. It's nice knowing if someone read or deleted your message and who looked at your profile...but sometimes it's better NOT knowing your message was deleted without even being read.
