This and the fact that it's weekly, I think that's a fairly often thing to have. Maybe it should be monthly and then you can narrow it down to 3-5 reviews and more people would vote and you would also have better quality reviews.

I don't dislike the idea, I even go check it out sometimes, but I don't care to vote often with the way it is now.

I pretty much feel it's not my place to get involved in the Rumbles since I haven't worked myself up to writing reviews yet.

It was easier to find people for Rumbles back when there was a larger part of the review page that showed new reviews (with a picture of the item and a snippet about it) rather than this list thing that we have now.

I wish it were easier to view all of the week's new reviews on a page or a bigger part of the page and pick from there.

Very few people seem to nominate, so I think that those nominations come from the pool of reviewers that those people follow.

That would be great. But I can say, that is not possible to add at this time however.

This is doable.

I am not disagreeing with these points, however, I feel that if the staff were to be the ones mediating all of this - the staff would have to read all eligible reviews each week to be be fair. There are currently thousands of community members to read the hundreds of reviews, there are only a few of us.

Do you that popularity is a factor because the people who are voting, are not reading the reviews? Or do you think people just view it as a competition between the reviewers popularity and overlook the reviews all together?

I didn't know about it until someone told me one of my reviews had been nominated. I've been checking it out and voting each week since then. I made my first nomination last week. I would've nominated a review two weeks ago, but it had already been nominated. I look at a lot of reviews and I'm going to keep nominating reviews I find to be truly outstanding.

I'll be sure to check out the Rumble, always still finding new things to participate and learn on the site. Thanks for bringing my attention to it.

I think popularity plays many roles. First, more popular reviewers tend to have their reviews read and are more likely to be nominated. Second, casual voters will tend to vote for contributors that they've seen before.

Most of the time it just gets lost in the jumble of stuff on the forums.

I like the idea of the rumble. But I tend to forget to vote, let alone nominate anything. I haven't looked at it in months, but it did seem to always be the same people being nominated.

I do like the idea of being able to nominate something right from the review page. That would be very convenient.

I always look forward to checking out the Rumbles but I don't always nominate someone.

The best way to fix this is to nominate new and different people.

I love this idea a lot. Probably be too hard to actually program in but it's still a freaking awesome idea.

I love the Rumbles!! Even though I have been nominated several times--I have not won--the feeling of being nominated is a great motivator.

I liked it when it was hosted. Maybe we could have a member host it every week AND have nominations. That might add stability to the number of reviews on the Rumble.

If a person won the Rumble, they would not be able to compete or be nominated for one month. This would remove the repeat nom's and give newer members a chance.

What about a first, second, third? First gets $25, Second $10, Third $5?

Just a few ideas....I look forward to this every Friday. Maybe have more info on them on other areas of the site and let everyone know it is not just members who review that can vote.

Yay ^-^ I think that would make the Rumble more accessible to both the nominees & the nominators because there would be an increased chance of being rewarded/recognized by the community.

Also I really like the Rumbles being weekly rather than monthly because I feel like it's fairer because there's a smaller pool of reviews.

I remember how excited when I was first nominated for one.

Nope, the dates aren't right. I went ahead and nominated reviews from this week, as it should be listed. It also isn't marked as a featured thread like it normally is, so I have to keep digging to find it, which is a little offputting.
What are the correct dates for nominating for Rumble #184?

I think that a name means a lot on here. I remember when I started that I was mystified by people who had high ranks. I thought they got that because they were perfect. It's just human psychology. There's nothing you can do to change it. Because of that though, I think that's where the problem lies. People with a ton of rank and forum posts are typically those that win because of name recognition. It's a flaw, but I think it is one that you can't do much about.

Just saw Gary had corrected the dates in the Rumble #183 thread.

For nominating reviews for Rumble #184:
(Eligible reviews posted: Friday, April 19th, 12:01am EST through Thursday, April 25th, 11:59pm EST)

I agree with this. I can't remember if Kindred was the one that mentioned it (it's been a LONG day), but I think being able to see the progress of who is winning in the rumble influences other votes some. I think percentage should be hidden and only the results revealed at the very end.

That's a shame. I don't always remember that the rumble exists while reading reviews.

I enjoy the weekly rumble. I have won one so far but have yet to see another review in there of mines yet I see a lot of other people who have been in numerous times. I am also noticing not a lot of people are doing nominations anymore either and rumbles where there are only 3 reviews on it and I know there are a lot of reviews posted each week. I too wonder why it has got quiet. There are a lot of excellent people out there doing reviews all the time. I hope that since I have the banner on my page that it is not having me nominated. I would like to be on there again.
