Do you feel more compelled to write reviews on free items?

Contributor: Cookie Monster Mike Cookie Monster Mike
Setting aside free assignments in which you are required to write a review whether you feel like it or not. Do you ever feel compelled or obligated to write a review on products you have received through EF? Mostly items collected through using points, a free gift with order or a free item from other special promotions etc.

I personally feel a lot of the time that it is the right thing to do. Anytime I use points or get a free gift with an order and so on, I feel that I should at least write a review on the product. It's the least I can do to give back to the EF company and community to furthermore provide more information and personal experiences on a product.

yes, but i try to work from an angle nobody else has with the reviews. for example, i wrote about the catalog but explained how it can be cut up and used for crafting. and the shirt was also cut up and turned into a sexy tank top.

come to think of it i just like to cut things.

I do feel more compelled by items gained through free gifts and converted points... Though I have yet to review the free gifts, and my only points-discounted item has yet to arrive.
Still, it's on my to-do list!

I do. If I get something for free, the least I could do is write a review on it. I enjoy writing the reviews anyway. Especially for the descriptive reviews. They're always so new and interesting, I love to find neat new things that I love.

I had a feeling most people did but thought it would be interesting to see some poll results. I just feel it is the right thing to do basically. Glad to see other people feel the same

I try to review all the products I've been getting lately. I don't feel obligated to write reviews on free products, but I enjoy writing reviews on them.

I try to review all of the items I recieve/purchase. If I recieve a free item in exchange for review, even if I hate it I try to post an honest review of it. I got an item once that I thought would work, but once it arrived there was no way I would be able to safely use it so I gave it to my mother. I included that information in my review; basically stating that from holding it and discussing it with her I was able to form my opinion of it and that I couldn't use it.

I pretty much review everything anyway, but I try to review what I get for free with points especially. I'm behind right now on that because I have assignments that have to come first. When I finish those I'll catch up on my points products.

I don't feel obligated to review free toys or ones I get from using points. But I've gotten to the stage that I want to review most things I get and often I actually find them easier to write than my owed assignments cause I'm not under pressure to do them.

It depends on what it is. If it's one of those free with an order items like the eden wipes are, I typically don't because there's already tons of reviews and I don't think I would have anything to add that hadn't already been said by someone else.

Usually toys and things I buy either with points or without I will review. It's just maybe I won't get around to it for awhile.

I think writing reviews is a great thing to do, but I don't feel obligated to do so unless it's a review assignment. Writing a review is work and it takes time. Yes, it's fun work, and most of us do it because we enjoy it, but we don't owe it to Eden to review non-assigned products. If we review these products, it should be because we want to do it, not because it feels like an obligation.

If Eden wanted the points program to be used as a way to get more reviews, they could include that as part of the terms. It would actually make it a disincentive for me if I felt like every time I posted somewhere, I was building up 'I owe more reviews' karma.

I think getting items with points makes me more inclined to review quicker. I do like reviewing and would anyhow, but I tend to procrastinate on things. Knowing I get them with points reminds me when I use something that I should thank them by getting the reviews done.

So far, all of the products I have gotten from EdenFantasys were free! Crazy, right?! The first four (FOUR!) were because of signing up for newsletters, adding as a free gift, etc. but one of them broke shortly after usage (It's discontinued now). It was apparently a piece of crap since the same thing happened to a friend. But besides that one, I've written reviews for two of the three and I'm going to write the final one soon. The last free toy I've received from this site was through points and it's on its way as we speak. I intend to write a review for that one, as well.

I definitely feel compelled to write a review for the free toys I get but I also feel compelled to write reviews (not that it's happened yet) for any toys I pay for that come from this site or possibly are just on it. Why? Because from what I've experienced so far, the community is wonderful here and the deals are fantastic; I just love it here so much that I want to give back in any way I can.

That was quite the novel, huh? Ha ha.

Nope just one chapter, now keep it coming lol.

I basically feel a similar way. I don't quite feel compelled to write a review on EVERYTHING I get, but a lot of items yes. I was going to write a review on the EF free gift toy wipes but meh I honestly don't feel motivated on those, plus there's already tons of reviews on that one. I feel I can contribute more when I review something with few reviews.

I do feel most motivated to write reviews on the assignments (free or buy out) first. I also write reviews on toys I purchase, but I haven't gone so far as to review the free toy wipes or catalogs.

I'm not in it for points or anything. I try to make a contribution for others to read my reviews and help them make an informed decision. That's how I've used all the Reviews I've read from others in making my purchasing decision.

I really don't have the time to write reviews for everything I have whether I pay for the items or get them for free, so I am voting no.

Totally understandable. I know some people have crazy lives and are lucky to have 30 minutes to sit down at their computer and do something for fun. With the holiday's upon us right now I'm sure most people are very busy. I have been non stop crazy busy since Dec 17th, no breaks, no relaxing really. I have 10+ products I would like to be able to review but need to find the time in January.

I say sometimes. If there aren't many reviews, I would. But if everyone and their uncle has done one and there are TONS of reviews, I probably won't because I don't see how my one review (regardless if I agree or disagree with everyone else) will do anything.

Although I enjoy writing reviews regardless of how I acquired a product, I feel obligated to write reviews for free toys while some toys I just enjoy or dislike so much I will write a review even if I purchased it out-of-pocket.
