How long does is take you to write a review?

Contributor: Ms. Spice Ms. Spice
it takes me like an hour, an hour and a half with pictures. i just get the bare essentials and BAM! it's done. i think it helps that i label everything too

It depends on what I'm writing about. I have a vibe that I wasn't all that impressed with when I bought it (several years ago) that I decided to write about since my current assignment is taking its sweet time to work through the USPS (it should have been here yesterday, but is still not here today). I'm getting the "itch" to write, but I just cannot get into this particular vibe.

That being said, I have sat down and wrote other reviews in under 2 hours. The more complicated the toy/device/game/whatev er is, the more time it takes to explain it, talk about the good features, bad features, etc... One thing I am also really working on is remembering to READ what I wrote after walking away from it. Auto-spell check won't catch an "on" instead of "of" or "in"! I do write every review in Word first...my goal for this next "round" of reviews is to print them out and read them after my other half has had a chance to read them as well. That gives me two "fresh" sets of eyes to catch mistakes I would not see while I typed or shortly after (because I know what word I meant to put "there")!

less then 2 hours of total writing time. But it takes me a few days. I start the review with the basic info, then over the next few days I fill in the rest until I have a full review done.

I usually spend one to two hours per day, and up to four days editing and re-editing until I'm totally satisfied with it.

I wonder if the more reviews you write, the faster you get?

Not for me. As i've gotten more experienced, I'm more careful about the details I include and almost always add pictures which takes me time to both shoot and edit.

Me too. My earlier ones were a lot quicker. Now they take more time, effort and pictures most of the time.

It definitely takes me a review per day though. I can't do multiples in one day. I'm really picky as well.

It usually takes me 2 to 6 hours to write. If there are ingredients I do searches on the stuff, so I can explain what everything is. I also like to include pics in my reviews, so I usually take the pics the day before, load them to Flickr (I have a "restricted" account with Flickr so I can show even realistic sex toys, after someone complained that my images were "inappropriate.&q uot; So, now with "restricted" status (which is cool with Flickr as long as you let them know) they don't go on the regular feed and only I can see them and use them.)

Then I.... write and write and write, then I edit and edit and my OCD kicks in (I have real OCD, like go-to-a -shrink-for-treatment OCD) and I edit it again and include every freaking detail. Then I upload it to Eden, THEN it's TOO LONG and I have to edit it again. Then I publish it, THEN I edit it again because I find something that is spelled incorrectly or left out or unclear, then I have to remove more stuff so it will fit and it takes me hours to finish.

Then I read it live and edit it again.

Not being able to edit DRs is driving me crazy, because you can't get to them for days or weeks after you submit them. I edit like a crazy person and I go back and read my unpublished but submitted DRs and think "OMG, I left this out, this isn't clear, there is a word misspelled and I can't get to it!" LOL!

Then I'm exhausted and unless I have an assignment due I have to wait a week or so to do an other one. I'm one for being really thorough. Most would think to a fault.

For me, book reviews are the hardest. There is so much to include, and I hate to give too much info. But, I hate to read book reviews that are, like, 2 paragraphs and tell us nothing about the book. I LOVE a good book review, but really hate the lazy ones. I'm a detail person.

I make the time to sit for an hour or two and complete my review. I want to get it all done at once and submitted.

I'm struggling with book reviews too right now. I have 4 or 5 of them to do and I think they'll probably take me a while. I started one of them in a word program, just to basically get some thoughts on paper. It's hard because I don't know how much to say without saying too much, but saying enough to do a good review.

I thought it would be easier for me to review books, since I read so many, but it's actually the reverse. I find writing book reviews, especially reviews of anthologies to be much harder than writing toy reviews.

Some items are harder for me than others. If I really dislike it abruptly or something, I can get a list going like that.

I do this, maybe it will help you: I take notes while I'm reading the book and mark pages so I can reference direct quotes. Then, when I'm finished with the book, I start writing. I list the author's or editor's credentials, then I list the table of contents. Then, I take the parts of the book, or small reviews of individual stories, if its an anthology, and say a few chapters about those. If its an anthology, I do list the most famous authors, but I don't always review every story, but enough to make the reader want to read the book. Usually between 3 and 8 stories gone over. I don't tell the end of the stories. If its a nonfiction book, I do similar things, but I also like to let the reader know what the underlying feel of the book was, was it friendly, authoritative, knowledgeable, naive, unfair, well balanced? Then I might talk about a few direct quotes that really set up the feel of the book for me. Then I do a conclusion, how well it was written, the cover, the paper quality, any pictures etc. Then, I'm done.

Good luck. IMO, book reviews are the hardest to do.

I'm in the middle of writing my second (and third, fourth, fifth...) review, and right now it's looking like actually sitting down writing the review won't be very time consuming, probably less than 2 hours. I've taken some time to use each toy in whatever way is appropriate, write some notes during or right after about the actual use, and then I'll fill in the rest with technical information and complete sentences!

It takes me about 5 days, I start writing it in one section and work my way through one by one slowly. Sometimes I just start off writing notes about the product likes, dislikes to be sorted through later when I have time. It usually takes me awhile but I give myself a five day deadline from when I click write review.

The actual writing takes me two hours. That doesn't include the time it takes to take pictures, edit the pictures, or for my graphics slow computer to upload them. It also doesn't include the few minutes here or there I spend jotting down random notes as they come to me during the day that I want to remember to include.

Usually about an hour. I start planning what I'm gonna say before I start to type. So it goes a bit faster.

A little over an hour to more than 3-4 hours because something is always distracting me and I will have to re-read it to get back into it.

It depends on how busy I am and what item I'm reviewing. I always wait at least one day when I've completed one to submit it because I like to revise.

I like the brainstorm idea over a few days period. The extended template let me organize/save all my ideas under different sections. After that I find one or two nights where I am calm and concentrated to put it all together.
I do a lot of the thinking in my head before I actually write it down. It's just the way I write things (this include other writings other than my blog). I can spend hours editing afterward too.
So it's really hard for me tell exactly how long I've spend on one review.

I chose other because I do try to test them. Especially if they're said to be waterproof. It takes me a bit to test them that way, get my first opinions, my husbands first impression, opinion in use, and then overall opinion all gathered up into thoughts. I start with pen/paper and write my first impression down and the basics like packaging, if it had any extra storage, batteries etc. Then get all the other opinions by experiment and use and then I take everything I have written down and start writing in MS Word. I take Pictures as well so it takes me a while to get things going some items are easier than others and don't take me as long, but others are more difficult to explain. I try to find something that it compares to which can be hard at times to come up with and may take me longer. I just add/subtract from word until I think it's covered everything I think it should then I paste it into the review.

It varies greatly depending on the product. So far I found that I like to write my initial thoughts a descriptions of a product the day I receive it. Then after "thorough testing" which could take up to a week or more. I complete my review

All of mine have run somewhere between an hour and a half to three hours, I think. It's more writing at one time than I have ever done outside of research papers for college classes. More interesting subject matter though *lol*

DAYS?? really? wow, i take my time, but I usually know so much about the product by the time it even reaches my doorstep that all I need is my personal account!
