What if we don't hear from someone for a few days?

What to do?

How long do mentors/students have to work on the reviews with each other?

Each assignment alots us 3 weeks to complete the review. What if we are working with someone who doesn't get back to us for days?

Bumping this. I am thinking about cancelling the class I am in, but I don't want to FAIL it ! Lol. I haven't heard from my mentor at all and it's been like 4 days. They are probably pretty busy, but I like to get things done!

Give'm a week I'd think. Real life tends to be unexpected.

Yep, I would say a week is a good timeframe. I know myself that most times it only takes me a day or two, but I also have a work from home job that gives me a lot more flexibility for computer time. If someone has a full time job with no access to Eden at work I can see how it could easily become close to a week if things get hectic.

I suggest giving everyone a reasonable amount of time, and then, sending a final email like "if I do not hear back from you in the next 7 days (insert day)". That way you give them a fair chance and are then an upfront warning. If someone is flaking out on you, it is fair to end the class. However, life gets crazy for everyone too so just try to be fair about it!

I've had students not reply for months. It would be great if the system would phase them out or something

I tend to be pretty easy on my students, what with life and the necessary stuff being what it is.

I do need to message them and find out what's up, since it's been a couple of weeks.

I have allowed time as long as there is communication. If they don't respond in a week, I try their personal emails. Some don't have their settings properly set up.

Well I cancelled it before coming to this thread :/ It was a mentor of mine though, not a student. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they were busy, but I need to get this review done. I will give more time in the future I guess

Yeah, it's pretty rude to just cancel a class without even giving the person a chance to tell you that they're working on a huge research paper and hadn't had a chance to respond to you.

Don't be so impatient.

Well I didn't think it was rude of me to message you and let you know that I assumed you were busy. Sorry you are so pissed. But I have deadlines too and I already apologized to you via message.

It is rude to start shit publicly when the situation is already taken care of.

Patience isn't my strong suit, especially when I have a lot of shit going on as well. You could have had the decency to message me back BEFORE the message I sent you stating that I canceled the class.

I'm done with this conversation.

Oh and it is against EoC to flag a post out of spite. It's also quite immature.

I can understand how you feel. Im very impatient too. I want everything done yesterday....lol.
It is nice though to have warning if a student or mentor knows they will be busy for a few days ... like my mentor did.
That way ya not left wondering whats going on. That I can accept.
And I have to keep telling myself that not everyone has as much time online as I do. I'll look out for your next review!

Hi, cherry!

While flags are private, I can tell you that it was not Vieux Carre that flagged you. Please don't be so upset. Thank you!

I have a friend that is trying to do her review but it's been well over a week and she still has not heard from her mentor. I have recommended her to send her mentor one last final email before requesting a new mentor. She has been having problems with this mentor since day one. How long should she give for her mentor to respond to her? This is an on going thing with her mentor, it takes her longer then a week to get back to her. She has been trying to get out of the student status and become an advanced review but can't at this rate. Her mentor is always posting in the forums and also posting reviews but never getting back to her? Any input would help.. Thanks

Hmmm, that doesnt sound fair - mentor not making contact with your friend even though the mentor is doing stuff on the site. Maybe there needs to be stronger rules for becoming a mentor.
Fair enough if a mentor is busy with life .. etc .. and makes contact to let the student know - if possible. But to be on the site and just ignore a student is off.
In that case, I would definitely cancel the class!

Well she was contacted today after I made the first post. Not sure if her mentor knew who I was talking about or not or it might have been my friend contacting Gary that did it I am not sure. Maybe she can graduate soon and get it all over with. This is her second review so maybe just maybe.

I've had to cancel two classes. One even submitted a review, but when I sent it back to her for revision, I never heard from her again. Even after another email a week later, nothing. Another student said they would submit a review and kept postponing it, then eventually just didn't reply back either... On the other hand, another student had computer problems, but did get back to me within a week or so. Either way, send a warning email or two before canceling. I'll give them a couple weeks, then if I hear back nothing, I'll cancel.

My life "Happens" too (3 kids) but I'm never to busy to find time to write a short email letting someone know if it's all ok. I also managed to complete my class as a student within a month, and I have lots of things to do, but I was motivated. Motivations for others may lie elsewhere. Everyone is different.

Another thing I would suggest is to contact your perspective mentor prior to sending a request to be a student. Have a dialogue and clearly lay out your expectations in terms of what you hope to gain from the experience, and how quickly you hope to get responses. On the same token, before accepting a student, a mentor should contact the perspective student to find out if their expectations are compatible. Requests should not be blindly sent or accepted without some sort of dialogue between both parties. Just my 2 cents.

Send her to me! I am a mentor and on here daily. I actually have 1 student out of 4 who is working on their review. I already dropped one after 2 weeks of no contact.

So we should wait a week before we do anything?? I submitted two reviews to my mentor and haven't heard anything. Not sure what to do.

One thing you could do would be message your mentor and ask if they are okay, if there is a reason they have not yet responded. I would give them probably a week after that before I canceled the class.

And then come find me because I am taking students! Lol. Yeah I would suggest waiting about a week or two, then sending them a message, then maybe wait another week and then cancel. I have been (im)patiently waiting to hear back from a few students, luckily I now have two who are keeping contact.

To me, it doesn't matter if you are pounding reviews out left and right, as long as I know what's going on. I'm a single mom in college, I know what it's like to be busy I just like to know that yada yada is going on, and this is why I haven't heard from them, etc. I also feel like if someone can't at least commit enough time to have the decency to message someone then they should not be looking into the mentor program either way!

Alright, this is just getting ridiculous now. I have cancelled 4 classes and I now have 5 students who aren't doing anything. They just request the class and then they sit there, no message, no reviews, nothing.

One just finally started working on a review after they tried to publish it twice and the admins sent it back.

The only other one working on things is Love Buzz and she isn't counted in the 5 above.

I am unable to accept students who actually want to work on their reviews because I have my max by the time they request me.

there has GOT to be a way to fix this. I am thinking about stopping the mentor program altogether because what is the point if no one uses my mentoring?!

I just came to this forum to say the same thing. I think I have had.. 3 students I have been able to pass but at least twice as many who requests and bailed after a day or who I accepted, talked to once (if that!) and never responded.
