Would you buy a carbon fiber dildo?

Contributor: spineyogurt spineyogurt
It seems like all high end gadgets are made of carbon fiber nowadays. How soon till the first high end carbon fiber dildos come out?

Nnnnooope. I'd stick to silicone.

I can't imagine what the positive features would be - I voted no, but if there were good enough reviews and the price were reasonable, I see no reason not to.

I voted no but I'm more on the 'maybe' side. I wonder what the plus sides would be? Durability? OK. Lightweight? Not necessarily a plus.

I would have to see the coating they put on it first and know how thick is was layered on. My guess is that they would be pretty expensive too.

I voted yes only because I know my partner loves carbon fiber anything and would be so turned in by this, but I would have to know it was a safe material before actually using it.

OMFG YES! I used to race import cars and the thing to have was carbon fiber. I got out of it, but hubby still modifies imports and lovesss carbon fiber. I bet he'd never grab for another toy to use on me again. Carbon fiber just plain looks sexy.

You need a "Maybe" option, since I'm not really sure.

I may be really dumb, but what is carbon fiber? Is it a type of metal?

It depends on what it looks like. I'd try it out of curiosity.

Carbon Fiber "is a very strong and light fiber-reinforced polymer which contains carbon fibers. The polymer is most often epoxy, but other polymers, such as polyester, vinyl ester or nylon, are sometimes used."

This is something that got its start in the aviation industry, pound for pound it is stronger than steel at a fraction of the weight. Nowadays it is used for everything from car parts to computer cases.

You may have seen it but did not know its name.

Thank you!

I still can't imagiane what a dildo would be like made from this stuff, so I guess it would depend.

I am guessing it would feel like a plastic dil/vibe. Due to the epoxy (or other polymers) it would most likely have a smooth glossy finish, although I can Carbon arrow shafts that have a matte finish .

One of the big concerns when used for penetration is if there are any cracks, carbon fiber splinters are far worse that wood and even harder to get out. But I do not see that as a problem unless a person abuses it.

A carbon fiber toy would be stiff as any glass or steel toy, yet substantially less weight. As Tim pointed out, carbon fibers are nasty. CF doesn't have to break; flex it or wear the surface and it'll have splinters, much like fiberglass. Also, I'd want to know which chemicals are in the epoxy, as there are many formulas. Probably would have to have a silicone coating, if anyone comes out with one.

It depends on the cost and reviews, but I would certainly love to see that happen.

Really depends on whether it's safe or not, and my guess is that it's not. I suppose if it was coated with something than it would be alright, but then what's the point of it being carbon fiber if you've got a coating over it anyway... might as well just use something cheaper inside, eh? lol

I don't see why. Glass and steel are stiff and inert, and extremely durable. They're heavier, but for a sex toy this really isn't a bad quality, at least for the common sex toy sizes. Carbon fiber is light, but the durability is unknown and care would be difficult (and important).
