For a beginner's first dildo...

Contributor: Ryuson Ryuson 01/04/2012

I previously made a discussion about what toys to get my friend as a gift-basket, but now I'm stuck between several dildos! Which should I get for my friend's first dildo?

Please keep in mind that she is not used to penetration and I would like to shy away from anything too realistic!

All of those look like great first dildos! I am going to have to say personally I would go with Wave Wand or Icicles No.8, but Fiji would be my Silicone pick. I think you should go glass since it is a way to do temperature play for her to experiment with.

Ella and Icicles 8. I could be remembering wrong, but I think the Wave Wand is actually much tinier than it looks on the product page.

For a gift basket, Ella and Icicles have the best packaging. However, I'm so, so, so, so, SO in favor of the Bent Graduate or Amethyst. For someone who isn't used to penetration (when I first got it), it was small enough to be perfect and the shape was perfect for g-spot stimulation. I still love mine.

hey there.. i highly recommend bandito by fun factory.. not realistic at all, beautiful, harness compatible, soft and silicone.. and has a g-spot bump. everythign you need in a dildo!

personally i don't use any dildos without a g-spot bump, because that's the point of a dildo for me! and glass isn't really for beginners, in my mind.

check out bandito! he's my pal.

I LOVE my Bandito, but I feel like it would be too large for my friend! It's the perfect size for me, but before I'd gotten used to penetration I would have been scared off by the girth!

@Kayla- That's great that they worked for you as a beginner! That really helps to make my decision even harder!
The packaging isn't too big a deal for me, but I would prefer it to look a bit professional!

The Bent Graduate does come in that super awesome pouch! It is padded!

Ella should work for most people and the packaging is beautiful. The silicone is top quality. It's small enough to work for a beginner.

Figi looks interesting. I don't have it, so I can't say for sure.

I have No. 8 on order. It and the Wave Wand look similar to the Swell Wand which is one of my favorites! The No. 8 is pretty slim and should work well for someone new to toys.

I have the Bent Graduate and I think it's just okay. I was expecting the world of it, I guess, and it didn't give me the amazing G spot orgasm I was hoping for. I assume this is because my G spot is picky though. I would go with Ella over Bent Graduate because Ella has the flat head and I think that tends to work for more people. I haven't taken a poll or anything on the topic. That was, I believe, why the Bent Graduate didn't work as well for me. My G spot didn't like the pointy head so much.

Amethyst is similar to Bent Graduate, so see my comments on Bent for comments on Amethyst.

Wow, thank you so much for the in-depth response! That's a very good point about the broad VS pointy stimulation, I personally prefer either flat or rounded stimulation on my g-spot!

I can't wait to hear what you think about the No. 8! I feel like my friend may enjoy that one more than the Wave Wand if only because of the colors and pattern! You have so many toys, I'm so glad that you've been able to help me in making these decisions!

You're welcome! Reviews seem to point to the flat head working well for most people. I'd also assume that since so many toys feature that shape, there must be some sort of reasoning behind it.

The colors are pretty! That's why I got it even though I have the Swell Wand which is really similar. LOL I like pretty things!

I am, as always, crazy behind on reviews, so I don't know when I can get a full review of No. 8 up. It is due in tomorrow though. I'm guessing I should have time to try it by at least early next week It's coming in a package with a ton of other stuff and I haven't decided on the order to try things yet. If you're super curious about it before the review pops up, you can always message me before you order for your friend!

I picked Fiji, although I'd prefer Ella if your friend has experience with dildos. Fiji is nicely shaped, but is easier to handle than the Ella for a beginner.

Ella was my first ever dildo, and I loved her (well, I still love her, to be honest). The packaging is great, and the smooth end is nice for experimenting with penetration and warming up, while the other end is great for G-spot play. The silicone is super high quality and smooth, and the size isn't intimidating. I think she would make an awesome gift!!

It is so sweet that you are getting your friend a gift basket

Thanks for the great recommendation! It's great to hear that you still like it so much and that it was a good size for you! I think that I'm gonna get her that one for sure!

I own both the Ella and the Icicles No. 8. They're both great toys for a beginner, but I think you might want to ask her first if she's interested in glass before buying her a glass toy. Also, I would say that the Bent Graduate is a little extreme for a beginner.

But the Ella makes a great gift. It has beautiful packaging. It's easy to use. It's versatile in design. It screams "classy."

Thanks for the comment! I kinda want the variety to be a surprise, but I don't want to spend money on something that she wouldn't use...

I've eliminated the Bent Graduate and the Amethyst, they look pretty intense especially since she's not used to penetration! I think that I'm for sure going for the Ella!

I am someone who is extremely small, and never really been into inserting anything inside of me. However, I just got the Tentacle jr from Shevibe (before eden got it back in stock, woe is me). It's just sooo amazing! It's a very plushy silicone, and it glows in the dark. The color is amazing, and the curve hits my g-spot pretty well. I plan to do a review on it in the future, but if you want to talk to me personally you can just message me

That is a great beginner toy, but you may want to ask her if she would be into tentacles first. It is kind of odd and someone might be offended by a tentacle, plus it is wicked expensive.

Narrow and unimposing is the way to go.

Of all these, I personally prefer the Bent Graduate, but Ella's still awesome and would probably be better for a beginner: it has the same function as the Bent, only without texture on the thrusting end and a less pinpoint G-spotter. The Ella's also lighter and a bit easier to handle.

The Bent Graduate provides really intense G-spot pressure, which some people think is great while others can't stand it. If she finds she likes the Ella, you might suggest the Bent as one to try later.

I agree, I don't think she wants anything 'realistic' as in penis or tentacle! Thanks for the great recommendation, though!

Wow, thanks for all of the votes everyone!

Fiji, go soft and flexible for your first dildo.

If you're going to gift a dildo, glass is the way to go because it's so beautiful. I'd go with the bent graduate... not only is it great to look at, it's extremely tough and even held up to torture testing.
