Do You Consider Wood to Be A GREEN Sex Toy?

Contributor: Sera Sera
Using wood kills trees, does it not? It takes away from the environment. How do you feel about all this? Do you think that wood is really a green sex toy? Personally, I think it's kind of a contradiction to call it one, aside from biodegradability.

It is considered green because it is an entirely renewable resource. It's not something we're running out of our cannot produce more of - it's not a plastic product that's petroleum based and in essence, is fossil fuel dependent. In addition, Hardwood Dildos, who makes many of the wooden toys that EF sells, uses only scraps from lumber yards, leftovers from larger wood products, or trimmed or fallen trees. They don't even cut trees down to use. This is truly green, as they are re-purposing something that otherwise would've been wasted entirely.

Oh, and this would make my vote "It's totally green" but I'd rather not vote on something that says "what's wrong with you" as well - It doesn't seem nice.

Yes, I think wooden toys can honestly be considered to be green. I have a couple of NobEssence toys. This company has their own farm of trees, so their source of material is completely renewable.

OK in the interest of it NOT being an insult, I'll vote that it is a green item. I don't think there's anything wrong with you for wondering, however. A wooden toy is totally biodegradable, where plastic and even silicone isn't. A single tree can make several hundred toys and one needn't use the whole tree, a branch will make several good sized toys. Trees are renewable and it doesn't require old growth trees to make the toys, newer and younger trees are fine. We've been making wooden dildos for centuries and we still have trees.
Most manufacturers of wooden toys use good business sense like NobEssence...they won't run out of material because they grow their own!

Well the tops of the tree is green, if you peal off the bark and look at some trees they are green (the back of the bark) so ya wood is a green toy material.

While I TOTALLY get your argument, I think it is green. It is not man made, can be reused, is natural, biodegradable etc.

Frankly I don't care if my sex toys are 'green'. The whole concept is over rated and hyped beyond recognition. After all aren't nuclear power plants green now because they don't produce CO2?

The 'greenest' thing out there is recycling - send your unwanted toys to new homes where they can deliver happiness again!

Wood is a sustainable resource. It's not something we're going to run out of anytime soon, as it can grow back fairly easily. So, that makes it environmentally friendly.

I can't wait to try my first wood dildo, hopefully soon.

Wood is a very green resource, it's a renewable resource and makers that use wood usually farm trees, which actually results in there being more trees in the world than there otherwise would be.

I can understand how it's not green in that it could possibly not be made from recycled wood. However, I also do understand that it is green that it does not use batteries or electricity.

I agree with Tori Rebel. It is a renewable resource, plus it can be recycled/is biodegradable.

But to a certain degree I agree with you, in the same sense as which is greener: a newspaper or an internet news website. It does take any from the environment in that respect, but in comparison to other options out there, it is way better for the environment in the long run.

I don't think wooden sex toys are green. I think they promote the killing of trees and I don't like that they exist. But, to each his own, and I don't mean to offend anyone!

Um, again, most wood used commercially is farmed wood, which is grown on tree farms by companies that intend to harvest and use it, they then plant more trees on the same land. It's actually a very green material. Most of the "disappearing forests" campaigns are about third world forests being clear cut for agricultural land (usually by inhabitants of the country) rather than harvested for wood. Also the reason paper is less than green is because the chemicals that go into bleaching and processing it, not the trees used in making it. You wouldn't say corn is a non-green product because we have to kill corn plants to get it, we grow corn and then we use corn and then we grow more corn, it's the same with wood.

From what I understand, most companies that use wood are using leftovers from furniture-making or whatever, or they're using gathered wood. They're not going out to chop down a tree and turn it into dildos. So it's actually a way to recycle what otherwise would have been wasted. That's green enough for me.

I agree that it does kill trees, but most of the wood used is recycled. Also, the wood from these toys can be further recycled to make new ones! So yes, they're green! And I, personally, love them!

I don't know about this. I think I have to agree with what some of you are saying. It is just that you would never think they would do something like this for a sex toy????

Agreed. Hardwood dildos uses scraps from larger wood projects.
Wooden dildos are certainly green, but I don't think anything is wrong with Sarah!

You'll get ecstatic pleasure, not slivers.

Green means environmentally sustainable and not harmful to the environment. It doesn't mean a tree is never cut down.

Paper is often prepared in a less green process than wooden dildos.

It seems that the companies that make wooden dildos are going out of their way to use environmentally friendly sustainable processes.

I encourage you all to try them. They are at the very top of my favorites list.
