The scents of products by DONA - and other products if you wish...

Contributor: Hot 'N Sexy TexasMama Hot 'N Sexy TexasMama
I'd like to start a discussion of the various scents by DONA. I hope some of you who are also using these products will chime in with your thoughts.

Today I received my Camu Camu and Pomegranate body mist lotions. I was most excited about Camu Camu but I also bought the pomegranate so I could compare it to the ginger/pomegranate products by Simply Sensual.

I am frequently having to take breaks as I sniff at these scents and open a travel size jar I keep of coffee (coffee beans really best) to clear the senses. I think it's recommended that you do this after every 3 or 5 scents - I forget which.

Ok - to me - and this is in the body mist lotion only - the Camu Camu smells like a very light vanilla/coconut blend and is almost towards the musky side of scents. It isn't a "bright/rich/sweet" scent but more muted and soft.

The pomegranate smells very sweet and rich. Once again, I am using the body lotion here. It almost smells like berries and melons together and is very VERY sweet - even sweeter than the mangosteen is (and I thought that was sweet).

The mangosteen is a sweet melon but it lacks that "berry" sort of scent added to it. I'm also talking about the body mist lotion when I say this.

As far as the two pomegranates go, the Simply Sensual is almost more of a mulled pomegranate - probably due to the ginger in it. It feels a bit heavier and yet not heavy and not as sweet as the DONA pomegranate. For me personally, this will probably be my "winter version" of pomegranate and the DONA pomegranate will be my "summer version".

I'm specifying the types of products here because the odor will change from product to product even though they are in the same line. I find that the body wash and the lingerie wash have somewhat of a "soapy scent" to them along with the scent they carry. It isn't a chemical smell - but it comes from the soaps that are in there to clean.

I'd love to hear what others think of this and how you feel the scent smells to you.

The only product I have so far is the linen spray, and that is in blue lotus. It smells flowery, sort of like when you first walk into a flower shop. I just love it, and it lasts on the sheets for more than an hour.

I really appreciate this thread, I intend to buy more of the Dona products and it is good to know about the different scents. I personally HATE the smell of coconut, so I will be sure to avoid the Camu Camu and I have you to thank for that.

Hate the smell of coconut? I didn't know that was possible!

I do understand - I really do. I'm not a big fan of flowery fragrances so I am a bit nervous to try the blue lotus.

Interestingly enough, I smell a lot of things with the Camu Camu bath salts (the only one in Camu Camu I have tried so far).

Tomorrow, I should be receiving the following:

-body butter (mangosteen)
-body wash (acai)
-bath milk (goji berry)
-bath foam (blue lotus)
-arousing herbal bath essence (pomegranate)
-linen spray (camu camu)
-body mist lotion (camu camu)

This will give me a better sense of the Camu Camu in different products. However also give me a chance to try some other things!

In the bath salts, the Camu Camu is very strong in the container, I get a light sense of vanilla, and maybe, just maybe the tiniest near impossible scent of coconut. But it's so minimal that I have to really smell it and focus to get any coconut. Normally I can smell coconut, I did in the Island Hopping from Not Soap Radio, ALOT of coconut.

So with Camu Camu, I smell vanilla, salt, I guess some hints of fruit, like berries perhaps? In the tub, it smells mostly the same, but mixed with steam and water. Which in turn gives me a smell of the beach almost. It's overall fairly light in the tub and mixed with steam. In the container this stuff is stroooong.

Mangosteen, well there is a lot of discussion on that one, and it seems somewhat different between people and products. For me in the body polish, it's a tropical blend/explosion of fruits. Has a lot of depth to it and complexity of melons. Sweet, tangy and delicate. Today I actually made a tropical smoothie that had mangos in it, along with peaches, bananas etc. Once all blended, it smelt very similar to mangosteen, only not with the soapy smell accompanied along with it. The way I smell and describe things are different I know.

So when I get my package tomorrow and have time to actually enjoy all my free products I can come back here and add more descriptive stuff about the amazing smells.

I personally like the idea of the acai and pomegranate smells!

*cracks fingers* Alright crazy people! Lets get this show on the road. So as many of you know, my 7 free Dona products arrived today! Giving me a taste (not literally) of all the scents (or should I say, aphrodisiacs). This is just a preliminary description of these products because I have not yet tested them all out yet. In time, you will see reviews pop up with more details. However, if you can't wait, you can always message me at any point to see if I have used any of the following products listed below for a more detailed description of how my nose/brain perceives these wonderful products.

Naturally I have to start with my favorite;

Mangosteen Body Butter (not yet available here on EF, but sent in a support ticket tonight with lots of information, requesting more products to be carried asap and so on.) --- Much like the Mangosteen Body Polish I reviewed, this body butter is very similar in its aroma profile. However it seems more exotic and tropical vs the soapy smell. It is sweet and tangy, but somewhat mellow and bold. If that makes sense. It is overall quite pleasant, but naturally my fiancee does not like it *sigh* she hardly ever likes what I do.

Goji Berry Bath Milk --- Holy crap talk about a strong aroma profile with this one. In the container is smells just like you would expect when you would accidentally put a floral oil/air freshener under your nose. Incredibly strong even when 4 inches away. It smells very strong of a floral aroma, but something that is very complex and not just a simple plain floral scent. At the same time it is incredibly fruity and smells of wild berries. I want to try it out tomorrow to see how this carries over being dissolved into the water (looks like baking soda).

Blue Lotus Bath Foam --- Someone described this on the DONA facebook page of smelling like Pop Rocks candy (no flavor specified). In the bottle it is super thick and syrupy, smells like I just walked outside to smell a at full bloom pleasantly light smelling flower. However, it is very light and has what smells like a sweet candy like berry smell. Almost like a blueberry, or sweet blue raspberry candy. Just tested some in the bathroom sink and wow, the floral really calms down and takes a nice backseat ride for a sweet aroma of blue raspberry candy (maybe pop rocks, Ill have to get some and test that).

Pomegranate Herbal Bath Essence --- Well, I have never really had a real pomegranate to smell before, however I have had pomegranate juice/flavored things. There are floral ingredients in this, to me it smells tart, sweet, juicy, tangy and similar to candy, with like subtle hints of a calming and soothing floral aroma. This was in the sink mixed with water. In the bottle, it is more like Pomegranate by itself, tart, tangy, spicy almost and again with subtle floral hints.

Acai Body Wash --- Because this is a body wash, it does have that hint of cleaning agents inside of it. However, most of this is covered up by what I can only decide as an amazing palate of delightful juicy sweet berries and green tea. Some very little tartness from the Pomegranate ingredient inside of it also. It has mangosteen in it but I cannot pick up on any particular profile of that.

Camu Camu Body Lotion --- Okay, with my experience in the Camu Camu bath salts and my fiancee absolutely loving that aroma, I decided to get the body lotion for her (and for me to try out and review). With the lotion, it's sort of complex, at first, smelling it in the bottle is has a subtle hint of the vanilla/tropical/pink lemonade/coconut smell, mostly covered up by a lotion smell. After it is applied and absorbed into the skin, it's aroma really comes out. It is more of a unsweetened vanilla/pink lemonade if you will. It doesn't quite have that citrus profile of a lemon, however is reminds me of pink lemonade. My fiancee is absolutely in love with this lotion and the Camu Camu scent in general. She has already claim the lotion hers and put it at her bed side table (figures, pfft ) lol. However I will be using this to review it and probably get another bottle since she is so crazy for it.

FINALLY (if you have even kept awake this long to read what I have had to say) we have the Camu Camu Linen Spray! --- This stuff smells so amazing! Think of your typical fresh cotton air freshener, but dial it down on that overwhelming smell, add in vanilla, pink lemonade, coconut (very subtle, almost undetectable), and hints of Acai and green tea and you have the most amazing smelling linen spray EVER!!! I love this stuff and so does my fiancee (glad we can finally agree on something). However, it smells this good in the air. It quickly dissipates completely when sprayed on linen. I need to do more thorough testing on this however, might get the mangosteen linen spray to compare with.

Okay, so now that this is all typed up, have you kept up and actually read this? I hope so. This is just my interpretation of the products, I am not a big time smell person when it comes to knowing them down to the finest detail (like a wine tester with taste). Also, as Texas Mama' pointed out in another discussion, this product line is going to smell slightly different for everyone. There are multiple aromas and fragrances in these products. So while Acai products in the line will generally smell like Acai, they will have a lot of other aromas accompanied with it.

One thing is certain about this product line, it smells amazing, natural and it truly arrests my attention like nothing else. Other than Goji Berry Bath milk, all of these smell perfect for my liking and don't smell of chemicals. I HOPE THIS HELPS

I sampled all three of the massage candles.

The mangosteen is the strongest scent of the three. It starts smelling like oranges but tart. There is also a sweet scent like mangoes. Then it finishes with a floral scent like roses.

The acai is similar but not as strong. It also smells of citrus but it's more sweet than tart compared to the mangosteen. I also don't appreciate a floral tone.

The blue lotus is the mildest of the three and smells similar to honeydew. It's sweet but mild.

I hate coconut as well. I love vanilla. Now I'm torn on Camu Camu.

Mangosteen is so hard to describe. It's like a citrus but not exactly any citrus I can say. Like a citrus blend. But then it's sweet which cuts the citrus where it's not exactly citrus because it's not a tart smell. It smells so good but it's like nothing I've ever smelled before.

The Pomegranate I have is the lingerie wash and I think that's why mine smells the way it does. Mine smells like a green tea mixed with cucumber melon with a light hint of a fruit blend. The fruit blend is like a sangria or fruit punch with less sugar content. There's also a very small bit of floral scent to it at the very end. It's a clean scent due to the green tea and cucumber melon being the strongest smell. I think the "wash" part is what makes it smell that way.

I just got the perfume roll on in the mail late last night in the Mangosteen. It's not available on Eden so I'll be reviewing that on my site.

To me the coconut is pretty strong in the Camu Camu...what about other folks?

For those who have tried different scents - if you haven't already posted here - what is your favorite scent so far? Or perhaps I should say favorite aphrodisiac since the label is not the scent but is instead the aphrodisiac that is used.

So far - mine is the pomegranate I think. I need to do some more experimenting today.

Can you post a link on here when you do that - or at least drop me a note? I'll be curious to see what that is like - and I'd even go off-site for that review.

I have the acai bath salts. I haven't used them in a bath yet, (I want to wait until I have time to take a really long, nice bath, rather than the quick "power baths" I usually take because someone is knocking at the door.)

In the jar, the salt crystals are very large, larger than most magnesium salts are, although these contain mag salts. The aroma is flowery, with a mild spice undertone.

I like light flowery scents, but not strong one, and I do like this so far. I can't wait to take my first acai bath salts bath. I use magnesium salts all the time, but this one is new to me.

I like the mangosteen. It reminds me of a strong cup of coffee with fruity undertones.

Good to see my super long post on here last night was not deleted!!!!

Any ways, I woke up this morning and it hit me, the Camu Camu in the Linen Spray reminds me of a Pink Grapefruit / Pink Lemonade aroma, but not heavy on the sweetness and tartness!

No i still pick up on those, but I was pointing out other aromas/scents that were in the linen spray I couldn't quite put my nose on. So yes, like a floral vanilla coconut pink grapefruit pink lemonade sorta smell. If that makes sense.

I've been spending so much time lately smelling all these different scents and trying to process them - I think I'm gonna go stick a coffee bean up my nose and just sniff that for a while (just kidding - although smelling coffee beans does clear things up so you can go back to smelling new scents).

Thanks for this! I've been considering the pomegranate, but the Camu Camu might not be bad to try either. Too heavy a coconut scent makes me feel queasy though, so hopefully that won't be so bad.

I don't really smell the coffee in that. I may need to take another shower with it again. Maybe I use the wrong brand of coffee or maybe we put too much in when we make our coffee so that if it isn't strong enough to unblur my eyes - it's not coffee!

Okay so today I received the Pomegranate Bath Salts to try out. Wow am I totally surprised by the scent.

In the Pomegranate Herbal Bath Essences I have by Dona, I mentioned it was very tart and I guess a bold scent.

However, in these bath salts. WOW is an understatement, these smell almost 100% identical to strawberry pop rocks! No JOKE! It smells exactly like I opened a large bag of strawberry flavored pop rocks and taking a nice deep smell in. Only, this smells better and more natural! Yum, now I want to eat my bath salts lol.

Grabbed the mangosteen Bath Salts today and holy crap these are so different than the rest of the mangosteen products. To me it smells super strong of sweet citrusy pineapple pina colada with only the tiniest suggestion of coconut. These are the high notes, the middle notes seem to mellow out more around the normal mangosteen I am used to in the Dona products.

Ok Mike - I'm putting you on the spot here. How long does the high note last? Does it fill the room or is that just as you open the jar?

Do the middle notes last on your body? Or does it die down fairly quickly?

Also - totally related but unrelated - what is your favorite of the products - not the scent - but the favorite of your products to use.

I think the perfume gel is my favorite because it has the richest, clearest notes of the scents. I even like Camu Camu in it. The body mist lotion is my second favorite - once again - because you get a clear scent from it without any soaps added.

*clears throat* Oh my, I am so nervous being on the spot like this

Hmm, well I only just received the bath salts in mangosteen (and bath milk) so I haven't tried them out yet. I was thinking maybe today before work but I am not sure. I have stuff going on this weekend.

In the container, the high notes are strong for awhile, but I have to keep smelling them to overcome the stronger scents to get to the middle notes. I think I will have to just try these out before I give my complete thoughts on it.

As far as my favorite product in the whole line so far, it's really hard to say. I like almost all of them I have tried haha. I seem to enjoy the Bath Salts and Milk the most, followed by the body polish.

Ahh...since you'd mentioned "top notes" and then "middle notes" - I assumed you'd used the product in the tub already.

Funny - I can't stand bath stuff - I mean I love the polish and stuff that I can use in the shower. But taking a bath? Yuck.

I may have to break down and try them though since I do have some of them.
