My partner and I have been looking at getting a massager lately but given that most of them seem to be rated about evenly I figured why not throw it to the community to really discuss the pro's and con's of each model. The Hitachi is a natural classic, but the cordless recharging abilities of the Acuvibe seem like a pretty big draw. So which do you think is the best and why? If you can discuss attachments for each go for it!
Which is the best choice of the massagers

I plan to purchase an Acuvibe in the near future. I know the Hitachi will be too strong for me personally, but I feel some obligation to try at least one of these, even if it does wind up as a shoulder massager.
Anyway, I didn't vote, because I'm not qualified to have an opinion at this time, but having read a number of reviews, I settled on the Acuvibe.

Dont get the My Miracle. My friend had it as a cheaper alternative to a Hitachi (Not sure if its cheaper here but it was where he bought it) and eventually it just broke for no reason. I've never heard of an Acuvibe, Ideal, or Hitachi breaking (Hitachi's will have their wire wear out, but it can be repaired). I have all three of those but as of yet have only had the chance to use the hitachi. So, I can't tell you what's the best- but I recommend staying away from the My Miracle Massager.

Oh, about the attachments- Most of the attachments are meant for the Hitachi and wont fit as well on other things. I have three Hitachi attachments from Vixen Creations and they're all awesome- However you need a lot of lube to thrust comfortably with any insertable attachment. I mean a LOT. And it will take time to get used to thrusting while using a big, heavy handle to do so. I recommend the off with their head, not only because it's a good attachment but if you opt for using the Hitachi head directly you need a condom over it since it cant be sterilized and well it is very nice as an actual massager too. If you don't mind that fact, I guess you could still just use the normal hitachi head as it is- personally I also like the off with their head cause you can just pop it off and clean it up and use it as your masturbation-only hitachi head, that's what I do.
I dont know if the heads on the acuvibe or ideal are removable so I can't say if the off with their head would work with them. I think the heads on those are made of a slightly easier to clean material though, as opposed to the hitachi.

Never tried the others but I really like the Hitachi. If not for getting off, it works wonders for my back since I work a physical labor job and come home sore as hell. The cord gets annoying and I need an extension, but I manage just fine. Just the instructions say never have it on for more than 30-35 minutes at a time.

I have the My Miracle Massager and Ideal. I definitely prefer the MMM because it has a softer head (I don't like attachments but the hard plastic on the Ideal isn't for me) and the Ideal gets REALLY.. erratic in sound and vibes as it dies. The Ideal also seems to be a toy that is frequently defective. It seems like every other review I read for it is one in which the reviewer got a defective vibe.

I have to vote for the Magic Wand. I don't have the others but my Magic Wand is still going strong after 30 years. Its hard for me to imagine another vibrator being better.

I seem to have gotten very lucky with my Ideal. It doesn't get erratic noises when it dies, and the vibrations just fade out quickly at the end of the charge, like my other rechargeable toys. So as far as quality control goes, they seem to have a world of problems; but when you get a "perfect" one, it's great. (sounds like the old Chevettes way back when...)

For sheer power, and never having to worry about a charge running out, the hitachi is the best. For slightly less power (from what I've heard), no cord, less noise, and an ergonomic handle for those of us with restricted mobility, the Ideal wins.

I'm not a big fan of the so-called "ergonomic" handle. I just don't hold it that way so it gets in my way, heh

Exactly! Many people don't like/want/need an ergonomic handle, so the Ideal is forever a niche product.

Get the Hitachi and after you get use it for a while add a G Spot attachment. Can't go wrong!!!!

I love the Hitachi but Brookstone makes an even better one with textured heads and it shuts off when it overheats. Only at their stores or website. Fabulous vibe and can be used for other purposes and very discrete.

Now that I've had it for a while, I'd like to reccomend the Wahl. It's kinda freaking amazing. I haven't had any overheating issues, but I can't use it long enough for it to overheat. What really sells me on it is that the high speed isn't really just a higher speed of vibration, it's totally different from the other speed. Low is a really, really powerful vibration, High is more like a pounding sensation.
The main issue is with attachments. It comes with a bunch, but not all are fun in the genital region. There are very, very few sex attachments designed for it. And I've never seen one in silicone.

I agree with Lilly the Wahl is amazing. Of the ones you have in the poll I picked the Hitachi, but the Wahl is the best I've tried so far.

The WAHL is the best "massager" IMO. Nothing like it. I also have a Hitachi, and the Hitachi gets very little use.
The Wahl wins!

I have a High Orgasmic Threshold and have used the Wahl in one session for close to an hour. The handle gets hot, (and I think it may lose a LITTLE power when it gets that hot) but it has never overheated, and always works well.

I use all the attachments, we've been experimenting since Day One. My favorites are the "Bulls Eye" (although we've used it so much, it can come loose) the "bullet" (similar to the "Bulls Eye" but only has One large nub) the "Wavy Rectangle." We occasionally use the large nubby attachment, or the triangle, and once in a while the large "suction cup" attachment. The only one I don't care for much is the smaller inverted cone, but I have only used it once. We'll give it an other try and see, things always change.
My Man likes the inverted cone and the bullet for back massages, and for his Rotator Cuff Injury or the wavy rectangle or the Bulls Eye.

Just bought the Mystic Wand - very nice for a small massager.
08/24/2010
I don't have the Mystic, nor the Accuvibe, but I do have the Hitachi and the Ideal. I'm not really voting for the hitachi, more like voting against the Ideal.
I found that the Ideal is nice, but it has no indicators that it should be charged until it dies. Plus, they recommend having it plugged in whenever you're not using it. For me, that's the same as just having a corded vibe, so why bother with having it cordless?

The inspire by Cal Exotics is awesome. It's got a removable "cap" that makes it easy to clean. It also has more variety in vibration intensity. I have the Hitachi, and I love it... but I love my Inspire even more just because I can use it on low or high. The Hitachi is sooooo strong all the time, even on "low".
08/28/2010
Super interested in the Inspire myself...I chose the Hitachi because it is the best vibe I have ever used! However, I would love a Wahl (which I have heard AMAZING things about as well btw) for more pin-pointed (and super quiet!) vibrations while still having the power of a plug-in. One thing with the intensity of the Hitachi, I have heard and have yet to try myself, is a dimmer dial cord. I have seen them on Amazon, and I assume you can buy them at hardware stores locally. I am pretty curious about that option, sometimes the high is too much but low isn't enough. I'd say Hitachi AND Wahl if you could swing it ^_^

The Hitachi is an amazing toy. Gotta love it.
09/01/2010
Gotta go with the best!
09/03/2010
I like the Ideal handle much better than the Hitachi.

I ended up buying a WAHL cause I was just too curious, and it is fabulous. It is dirt cheap, but well made and STRONG and nearly silent. It is better for more focused vibes than diffuse ones, like the Hitachi has. Though I still love my Hitachi quite a bit. They are kind of two different animals, so to speak.

My Man loves it for massages, too. "Can you massage my back with the dildo?" Honey, it's NOT a "dildo" but he refers to all sex toys as dildos. Whatever, we both enjoy it.
