I was around three or four, though it was a self-exploration and stress-relief/comfort thing rather than a sexual thing. I stopped around age six, and didn't start again until adolescence. I had no idea what sex WAS until I was twelve or thirteen, or what "boy parts" were and how they differentiated from "girl parts".

This is not the case at all, children touch their genitals as a source of comfort not for sexual gratification, it feels good so they do it, they aren't thinking about sex! It's part of exploring and understanding their bodies, attitudes like this create unnecessary shame for something that is perfectly natural!

I'm not completely sure at exactly what age I started masturbating, but it was somewhere between the ages 9-12. I didn't have my first orgasm from masturbating until I was about 14/15. I was never molested as a child either despite my masturbating at a very young age. This is not an anomaly. Like others have said, children will explore themselves, there's just no way around it.
