For those on the pill: What age did you go on it?

I was 14....I've had issues with cramps, irregularity, and cysts since I was 12 so it was kinda a necessity

I've never tried it. So I guess I shouldn't respond. Whoops!

We've done the withdrawal method for the last 11 years without a problem. I would kind of like to see if I can experience the benefits of The Pill, though, and tolerate taking it. I've been wary of taking the common prescriptions that I'd have to take daily at certain times. I hate schedules and my life doesn't follow one almost at all. And there are certain side-effects that don't sound too cool to me. I believe such medications are mostly safe, though.

It will probably be after 30 by the time I've tried a birth control pill!

I went on the pill at 13 to "help" major "female" things I started having. It didn't help & there were maybe 5 times in all that I ever was able to attend school during that time of the month. I didn't stay on the pill but for maybe 2 months then went straight to depo provera. I've been on it ever since. I'm 21 now and just recently learned what was causing those problems. I just had surgery for it less than a year ago! Sad that dr's can take 7 years to even get a clue that a woman can have endometriosis. Whew! It was a hell of a time for me & I suffered a lot. I'm still on depo to keep the endo from "growing" and it helps keep the pain to a minimum since it does stop periods. I also started pain meds and anxiety meds right after surgery. I just wish we would've found out sooner and that way my entire reproductive parts wouldn't have been destroyed, it would've saved 2 children and I would be able to have children. I got very ill from it and was in and out of the hospital for 2 years and they never had a clue what was wrong until I found a somewhat decent OB/GYN. I weighed 70 pounds from all the crazy health problems that developed over that time.

I usually add my story when I talk about depo because people are usually very quick to down a woman who is on depo. But, for some of us, the benefits outweigh the risks.

I was 14 years old. I can't remember what my pill was called, seems like so long ago. I lied and told my mum it was because I had bad periods, but our OB/GYN is really sweet (I still see him) and I told him why I needed it. I want to say it was Loestrin but I can't remember. Didn't have a lot of options.

I was diagnosed with endo at 18 after 4 episodes in the ER for burst cysts, it took years of pain to finally get someone to pay attention to my pain and not tell me I was just being a wimp and every womans period is painful.

I was on depo for a while, but after my son the endo has eased up a lot, they do say that sometimes having a child can do that to endo. I had to go off the depo, it was just making the symptoms of my fibromyalgia even worse.

Tried the pill for a little over a month, but I was on anti-depressants at the time and together they fucked my body up. Couldn't fall asleep, but when I did, I couldn't wake up and I had intense body aches all the time. It was hell.

I believe I was around 17 when i started taking the pill, I was using Triqular brand. I continued this till I was around 20.

Then I switched to the patch, and I am now currently not using any birth control. (not by choice, the doctor and i are trying to figure out why i haven't gotten a period for 6 months)

I went on the pill when I was 19, mostly to stop my incapacitating cramps every month. I started on a monophasic, switched to another monophasic, and now I'm on a triphasic. I don't like that it lowers my sex drive but I haven't found one any better than what I'm on, so I'm just dealing with it. I'm starting to think some of my nightmares are hormonal as well because they're happening on a weekly and monthly schedule.

I was on the pill for all of high school, then around seventeen I was on depo for a year and then didn't have another period until I was 21. I have an IUD now.

I know a lot of people that started on the pill before then because of hormonal problems.

I was 15 or 16. I got off it when I was 24, a few weeks after my husband had his vasectomy! One of the best things we ever did! The pill really screwed up my hormones/body/brain. I was a mess all the time on them.

I got Yaz for the first time at age 15 for horrific periods. It began not working so I switched to Seasonale last year. Loved it, but then I had a two week HEAVY period. So I was on nothing until three months ago on ANOTHER pill whose name I can't remember.

I hate the pill so much (my memory is shit, anyway) but when I talked to my gyno she refused to let me go on anything else. I definitely don't want depo because of the weight gain (and I already have a fucking binge eating disorder in the first place), but I want something else. Even if it's just the patch I'm willing to try it. Anything but the pill, please!

I was barely 14. I was having horrible cramping, sweats, fevers, migraines. all kinds of craziness from pms though. So my doctor suggested it to regulate me. It was a really good thing though. It taught me personal sexual responsibility, whether I needed it or not. It probably also has kept me being one of the only of my group of people to still be kidless. I haven't been ready though, and having that choice taught me that. so Birth control is good in my opinion.
