Holy ouch! My boobies!

Contributor: Elaira Elaira
Some months I get the MOST PAINFUL boobs ever before my period. It's normal for them to be sore most of the time, but there are times that are particularly bad (like this one). My boobs are small, too, but they hurt more than you think they would for being that size. They're really tender and the worst on the sides.

Does anyone get serious boob pain as a part of PMS? What do you do about it?

I took a bunch of motrin earlier and that managed to kill my headache, but not the ouch boobs.

Ugh, yes I do. It is seriously the worst. Sometimes I dont even have to touch them for them to be super tender, I just get pains in them around my period.

I get really sore boobs when I am pregnant. ( ) I also get them sometimes before my period. If it is really uncomfortable, I keep a well fitting bra on and sometimes even an ice pack.

I hope you feel better.

I get that sometimes. Usually my solution is to wear sports bras and take lots and lots of ibuprofen.

I get this too sometimes. I usually wear one of my tighter bras and use an ice pack.

Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

I actually love getting a boob massage when they're tender. It does hurt a little, but the pain goes down some afterward.

Breast Balm on here is really good for that. Looks like I need to break it out when I get home.

Same here, it is that time for me also. My boobs are hurting now.

They tend to hurt really badly just before I start bleeding, then that goes away and cramps begin :/

My wife always got sensitive boobs from PMS until she started using a progesterone cream. Apparently a symptom progesterone deficiency is sore breasts. It rarely happens now.

I used to, but not anymore. Tenderness and nipples sensitivity, but that's it.

Usually just a little tenderness. I'm one of those old-school "heck with painkillers! I'm stronger than this!" dorks (except for antibiotics when necessary, obviously), so I usually just wear a sports bra and tell my boyfriend to play gently.

Mine usually stay sore for a day or two, I'll limit my intake on caffeine and excess salt when it happens, as they contribute to the symptom.

Oh, ugh. Absolutely.

I'm going to make people hate me by saying the rest of my menstrual symptoms are really mild. I have cramps right when I'm about to start and then just for a couple hours after that. I get a little moody, but not nuts... just emotional. A little tired. A little stiff. Generally nothing awful.

But the boobs thing kills me. It will usually start up maybe 4 days beforehand and bumping them wrong will have me saying very rude words. And I'm not sure what to do with them! A bra hurts. But no bra lets them move around too much, which also hurts! (I usually end up with a "built-in bra" top.)

I totally sympathize!

You know, mine are just starting to do their monthly ouch, also. I know women who are around each other a lot can get their cycles coordinated. Do you think all the women on the Eden forums will start having their periods simultaneously? LoL.

Maybe, but mine is controlled by the pill as is a lot of the ladies on here so we all maybe on the same cycle because of that.

Definitely a normal symptom of PMS. I get that too.

Yeah mine hurt like hell some months. The only thing I do is take ibuprofen and whine a lot. Sometimes I'll just sit on the couch and hold my boobs because they hurt. Bra or no bra, it doesn't matter - they still hurt.

Yes, totally normal. Even worse when you stop birth control.

I believe in Better Living Through Chemistry.

Really, if a medication will make me feel better and it doesn't have horrific side effects I'm on board. Load me up, Scottie.

Hmmm. We can't smell each other, so I don't know. It's Wednesday, Nov 16 and I'm on my third day of mine.

That would be an interesting experiment. I don't take hormonal birth control, but I do take a small dose of estrogen creme and a very very small dose of progesterone pills (so I don't bleed like a stuck pig) the first 10 days after my period ends.

Yes, my boobs get sore sometimes before my period. It's one of the ways I can always tell it's on the way. I usually just massage them.

my old birth control used to make my boobs swell and become tender and sore. i recently switched my pills (for other reasons) and i don't experience "ouch boobs" anymore.

When I was your age that was my experience too. Finding the right bra/bras is the best advice I have. My cup size would really change too. It would last about a week then go back. Having good and properly fitting support helps. I agree with the suggestions for pain relievers. Try switching it up, midol one month, ibuprofen another and naproxen another to see if that makes a diffrence. My doctor warns not to ever take different pain relievers together though. The good news I have for you is that you probably won't always have this issue. For me it got worse in my 20's and early 30's and by my early 40's I hardly noticed a breast sensitivity change. My best friend says the same. Hopefully it will get better for you. Also chocolate ice cream makes everything better.

I get sore boobs too. Most times it isn't too bad but I noticed when I have to work and where a bra for a long period of time they hurt worse than usual.

I usually turn them loos and use a hot compress and a massage. It helps me, I dunno if yours might be too sensitive to do that but it wouldn't hurt to much to give it a shot.

The breast tenderness/pain that comes with PMS does tend to make things difficult... The worst part is that I only get my period every 3 months, so I have about 2 or 3 weeks of PMS and breast pain before my period!
Of course, my impulse is to wear a comfortable sports bra that will keep the girls packed down and out of harm's way, but I also want to wear a lined bra that will offer some level of protection from anything that happens to come in contact with them anyway. There's no winning with painful boobs.
