Pheromones? Do they work?

Contributor: Miss Anonymous Miss Anonymous
I've been thinking about trying something pheromone related. I just haven't ordered anything yet because I don't know if it works? Or, is it a load of crap. So, tell me. Do they work for you? What do they do for you or your partner?

I have honestly tried three lubricants/oils containing pheromones and I noticed no difference whatsoever in my sex. I honestly think that the concentration would have to be much higher for them to have a lot of effect on someone.

I think that the perfume sprays work a lot better than the lubes/lotions/candles/ whatever other beauty products contain them!

I've tried a whole bunch of things that are supposed to have pheromones in them and I personally haven't felt the effects of them at all. I may enjoy smelling them, but I still don't think they work.

Why do they use them than? If a higher concentration could possibly be needed why not put what is needed insted of putting out half ass products?

What do they do for you? do they make you more truned on? I'm just really curious because if I was to try something. I'd like to know what signs to look for that tell me it is working.

I actually study these kind of things in depth in all my studies on human sexuality. Pheromones are naturally secreted by every person, and unique to each individual. Their purpose is to provide the chemistry and attraction that you feel for someone. These are the reason why you're attracted to some people, but not others. It's been proven that we feel most attracted to people with different immune systems than ours so that our hypothetical offspring would have the benefit of genes from both of these immune systems. Have you ever found someone physically attractive but not had any chemistry with them? This is why. The same pheromone can't attract everyone. Some people like the idea of it and it becomes a placebo effect thing. Some things smell nice and have aroma therapy qualities that may increase mood. Overall, though, they're really not effective.

I have tried a lot of the pheromone products offered her and while I like the smell of most of them, I don't know for sure how well they work. We are apart for a week at a time and so when we see eachother, I think that even if we smell like we have been shoveling horse poop we would still be horny lol.

ha-ha I love your answers. They are always in depth. I didn't know that we as humans naturally secrete pheramones. I thought it was something synthetic that was added by using one of the products with it in it. I don't know much about this subject. I have met people who I though were beautiufl, but when I got to know them. I hated everything about them. I had no idea it was because of that.

I'd say try them if you want to, but don't put much stock in what they say. That's what I do anyway. "Oh that oil has pheromones in it? That's fantastic, does it work for everything else I want it to? Does it make me more attracted to my husband?" If it does, then awesome. If it doesn't, I try not to worry that much. If that makes sense lol.

I guess it's just easy to sell something and say "Oh yeah, this includes pheromones which will make sex five million times better!". It's just advertising I guess. I was told at a couple's sex retreat that high pheromone concentration was needed for significant results.

Exactly. You're more likely to get more pheromones from smelling your husband's armpits than covering yourself in some Shunga Pheromone Massage Oil. For instance, when my husband starts sweating during sex I'm immediately more turned on. I'm attracted to HIM and HIS SCENT.

holy crap, that's amazing. but yeah, placebo effect is a big part of the marketing too. if you think something's going to work, it has a higher chance of "working"

Yeah. They basically have some sort of a "testosterone" or "estrogen" in them, but that's it. Nothing special.

Biologically speaking, pheromones are secreted around our armpits, anus and genitals (on all sexes) and therefore, real pheromones probably smell a lot like BO, which our culture regards as gross.

I agree. Different pheremones send different messages. and natural is always better.

I've been curious about pheromone products, but I'm unsure about getting them as I doubt they actually work. *shrugs* I guess I'm just a skeptic about new things.

I am a walking factory of my own Pheromones. A womans smell is a big turn on for men, how ever I'm more amused when I watch guys react to one of my male friends that has a female personality. Apparently he/she gives off pheromones that freak out and confuse my straight friends. So needed to breath after some of those conffessions.

It is a product that can instill confidence in someone. I have a very shy friend who does not like walking up to guys/girls to start conversations. But when we tried the spray, we each got to smell it on each other, and she thought hers smelled better, she wanted to ask people what they thought. She actually got a date out of it. It did nothing for pheromones, but it gave her a reason to talk to someone without allowing her conscious to get in the way!

So It worked for her!
