Sex Fact: Breaking the Hymen

Contributor: Ajax Ajax
My first time there was no blood or pain, though I was expecting plenty of both. It was awkward and a little uncomfortable because we didn't really know what we were doing, but I got lucky with the hymen not being an issue

It was uncomfortable, borderline painful for the first minute or so, but no blood at all. I had masturbated with various things before then, so I may have broke it or at least stretched it without even realizing.

Pain and I bled. It hurt a few days after also.

I fell on a tree stump and smashed up my whole groin area pretty well when I was a kid, so I'm pretty sure it's been gone since then. My first time was still uncomfortable and it definitely took some patience on his part though.

My first time was fairly painful, but it could have been partially due to the fact that the guy was rather well endowed, and even now, 16 years later, I'm very tight. I don't remember bleeding right when it happened, but I do remember bleeding for a couple days after. I was 14 and had to miss swimming in gym class, because I was bleeding similar to my period

The first time I had sex I never had my hymen broken but just a few years ago I had it broken and it hurt a little and I bled alittle

My first time was with a partner who was very large, but very considerate and gentle. Despite years of masturbating and using tampons, I still had my hymen (I'd used a mirror to check myself out many times). However, my hymen was pretty small and thin.

We actually tried to have intercourse several times, over many different occasions, but I just had to keep asking him to stop because it was too painful. It took us about a month of trying before we got it in. I think the final decider was that I got very, very turned on and really started aching for it. When we tried that time: it got there.

It hurt quite a bit, and it felt very stretched, but I actually didn't bleed. I think that some of the pain was just due to nerves, and the fact that I'm quite tight. When I looked at everything later, my hymen had stretched (and gone very red) rather than really torn. Interestingly enough, it didn't properly tear until we were having sex a few months later - and even then there was only a tiny little bit of blood.

The first time I had vaginal sex (I was anally raped before I'd successfully had PIV--he tried but my vagina wouldn't allow it, literally closed down!), I was expecting it to hurt a lot, as I'd been told horror stories, of course.

But my first partner was not particularly girthy and used tons of lube. Honestly? I was sort of surprised at how un-painful it was. Then again, forced anal sex without lube and with a fairly large penis? Duh, no damned contest. My partner was also surprised at my lack of pain.

After another not-so-well-endowed partner, I finally had a girthy one. Very girthy, actually, and I bled and whimpered so much he jokingly "accused" me of being a virgin.

What a story! Haha!

The first time I had sex.. my partner wasnt really gentle. I was thinking.. "Oh god.. this is what sex is?! I'm gonna turn into one of those women who only wants to cuddle!"

I broke mine on my own. I remember horrible pain on inserting a tampon, so I never inserted a tampon again for YEARS. Of course, I experimented a bit (lot) on my own over the years, gradually increasing in size up from fingers to more girthy insertables. One day, there was a ton of blood and no pain, I freaked out and thought my period had started. Later, when there wasn't more blood, I realized it hadn't started, and I'd just taken my "virginity" by hand. I checked myself out in a mirror and there was still hymen, though. There probably isn't any NOW, but there was no further pain or blood.

I just can't understand why someone would WANT their first time to include a ton of pain and blood. It was better the way it ended up for me, because now I can actually enjoy my first time without worrying about getting hurt.

Fact: I consider myself a virgin because I have not had intercourse. My hymen doesn't matter. I probably broke it first on that tampon (because OH AUGH THAT HURT) and finished it off through masturbation. I have to give it credit, though. It was a tough bugger. I'm glad it's gone. I can't see why anyone would want to include that sort of pain in their first time.

Actually there’s no such thing as ‘breaking your hymen’ through first-time sex, using a tampon, horse-riding, or any other physical activity after you have reached puberty. The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education debunked this myth in 2009.
All girls are born with hymens but the tissue dissolves at puberty to allow the flow of menstrual fluids and to allow a penis to enter the vagina. Some pain and bleeding can happen when the vaginal corona is stretched, and is most often a result of a lack of sufficient arousal.

My hymen was ruptured when I was only three. It was an accident and it was very painful but there was no blood. The first time I had sex there was no pain, no bood and virtually no pleasure as well...he got better and so I married him!

my first time was painful and a bled a little bit. I know that my hymen has been broken years before I first had sex. My partner wasn't considerate of the fact that it was my first time.....plus I feel like if we used lube it would have been better. If only I knew then what I know now

My first time was a little uncomfortable through the whole session. But it wasn't exactly painful. I was surprised when he said there was any blood at all--I was somewhat experienced with toys. But there wasn't very much blood. I didn't see it, my partner noticed it when he went to clean himself up.

A broken hymen doesn't mean you're no longer a virgin. Being a virgin means you've never engaged in any sexual intercourse so until you do, you are a virgin. Also, some people believe if the hymen has already broken or does not break duringsex then they are still a virgin and safe from any consequences. That too is untrue. If you have sexual intercourse you are not a virgin.

My first time was very painful with a little blood about the amount of a small teaspoon. I also had endometriosis very early in life and still do so that could've been a major part of the pain I experienced as most females don't experience intense pain.

This is weird but my first time it was painful and first then I was fine. The second time we had sex is when I had some bleeding.

I had an experience similar to Irishlove's: My first time hurt like HELL. I'd rarely masturbated and the guy I was with was pretty girthy; he could barely get inside. I clenched my teeth and was determined to ride it out, so to speak, but there was no blood, and I wasn't sore afterwards. The second time we had sex, I did bleed a tiny bit, a few hours later.

There are a lot of women who still have it after sex. I thought I had no hymen, but when I finally hunted down what a hymen actually was, and looked at the textbook pictures, and examined myself, I still had a very obvious hymen two years after regular sex!

I've still got it now, too, it's just vastly stretched so it's very hard to see.
