UTI Poll

It seems like UTIs (urinary tract infections) are a pretty common complaint among women. I'm just curious how frequent they are for the majority of us. So, how often do you get UTIs?

When I was in my 20s I used to get them very frequently. In fact, I started getting UTIs when I was 10. When I was 19 my urologist told me that my urethra was sized for a 2 yr old. After two stretching treatments, I basically stopped getting them.

My brother needed the same urethra widening treatment. His was done under general.

I've only ever had one that I know of. At least the doctors told me I had a UTI. I didn't burn, itch, or have discomfort. I really had no idea I had a UTI. They did a urinalysis (to find out if I had drugs that were causing my vertigo), and they told me I had one.

I have kidney problems, so it always feels like I have a minor UTI! D:
I get a real one maybe every other month to maybe once a month.

For three months straight, I'd recover, go a few days without one, and be right back with one.
Unfortunately I got so used to it that a condom I'm allergic to gave me one and it developed into a kidney infection. After that, I'm very cautious about EVERYTHING that touches me.

I'm not entirely sure if they were actual UTIs, but I did get quite a few vaginal infections as a kid. Other than that, I've never had any problems.

If I even THINK one may be coming on with symptoms (like frequent urination or urgency), I take cranberry supplements. They do *wonders* for me if I catch it before it becomes greatly infected.

I seemed to have had them all the time when I was pregnant. Seems like they finally settled down

I've had it 3 times so far. Now I've developed the habit of peeing before and after sex, after shower and drinking a lot of water. I take cranberry supplements during very sexual active days. I haven't had it for a year and half for now.

I thought I had the begining of one one time and I drank some water and apparently it went away or wasn't ever there to begin with. Thankfully, I am no prone to these, but my twin has suffered from them all her life! She has had kidney stones and a lot of kidney problems since she was a kid. I've seen how much pain they cause and am so thankful that I haven't had to go through it.

I got them at least once or twice a year as a kid. And in college I had a couple. I haven't had any in that last....7 years maybe.

I've only ever had one, but it was such hell that for a while I lived in total fear of getting another one. Before the infection I was a bit lax about it, but now I urinate after sex religiously. I really feel for anyone who has to deal with these on any kind of regular basis.

I got one this year for the first time since I was a kid (I was a chronic bed wetter). I'd like to avoid them at all costs!

These days it's once every 3 months. I've learned to always look for symptoms when I pee.

Used to have them more frequently when I was younger, but have only had one in many years now. That one was because I went from having no intercourse to having tons because I got with my hubby.

I had them like crazy when we were using condoms. Nothing I could do could prevent them! Since we stopped, it only happens once or twice a year now.

I don't get them as much as I used to when I was young. I got one so bad one time, when I was about 16) I ended up in the hospital for a week! I ended up with infection all inside me (like, literally. they were starting to worry about lungs, heart, etc.). It was really bad, but I had a nice Demorral (I know I didn't spell that right) drip, and some okay nurses. Wasn't too bad, but it sure did hurt!

I've gotten them once every other month or so since I was a baby. Something with something not formed entirely right... I don't get it. My mother told me a few times, but she doesn't explain it well. I just make sure I pee right after sex and always wear breathable undies.

I used to get them every 2-3 months, having a lot of kidney issues across my lifetime doesn't help. Fortunately I have only been getting 1 or 2 a year for the last 2 years. Not sure if it is due to age, or the fact that I've been using more and more organic products in the last few years.

I think it depends on your shape, the length of your urethra (internal) and the distance between your urethral opening and anus (external). Men get UTIs much less frequently because they have a much longer urethra and so the bacteria have a longer way to go to reach the bladder. I get them less often than I did, because I've learned that if a penis or toy gets too near the rectum, to use a wipe before letting it back near the front.

And peeing after sex is a good tip too.
