Well thank you Brendada. I review for Cleis and Alison and I write a bi-monthly (well, sort of) column together that is loosely based on her Alphabet erotica series. What I like about her stories is that the quality of the writing is so good. It's literary and sexy, even the stuff that doesn't necessarily reflect my own personal preferences.

I think one reason erotica is gaining in popularity is, to quote "I believe that erotica, unlike porn, leaves the mind stimulated but not obsessed; it arouses the senses without desecrating the soul; it may embarrass but never shame the viewer. Still, the line between what is sensual and sensationalized is a blurry one. Most of the time, we feel a visceral response, leaving the higher cerebral processes to chime in a distant second."

Don't know if that answers your question exactly, but I'm tickled pink that you asked.

I had lunch with Brenda today, and told her that I know how it is to be in this 'business' and that we always have a great time collaborating, even if we get off track on the time line. No pressure from me. Besides, I'm still on vacation.

I've been compiling short-shorts for years now — ever since I put together "Come Quickly for Girls on the Go for Masquerade," back in mumble mumble — '96 or '97. Flat out, I think people adore quick sex stories. There's something fucking exciting about diving right in to the good parts. My best-selling Pretty Things Press title is Down & Dirty — 69 super-sexy short shorts. Frenzy seems to be doing aces for Cleis. Maybe it's short-attention span theater, but I think there's more to it than that.

I think it's also that things are distilled in a very short piece. It's the essence. Every word is important. A book of short pieces, and please excuse the Forest Gump analogy, is like a box of rich exotic chocolates.
