It's about sequels and recycling. But we have to be like the Beats and the rebels from the 20s and 60s. Kick butt. Teach. Show the way. Show by example. There is so much to learn. Find teachers and mentors. I have learned so much from the writers.

The great Beat poet Diane di Prima made money for her and her kids by writing erotica for Olympia Press. btw!

I had great teachers. When I worked on this particular mag, I had teachers like Ida Lewis, Nikki G, and Paula Giddins. Ivan Webster. At the newspaper, I had Pete Hammill and Jimmy Breslin. At another job, I had Fred Friendly, who was the mentor of Ed R. Morrow. The guy who Cooney played. I had great teachers. And I was a good student. Before that, I was the guy Reagan and Newt warned you about.

"I think some young adult writers feel as if they don't have enough experience to write, that they need to be older before they should try to contribute anything. What would you say to those that feel they are too young to write?"

As someone who put writing off for 14 years, I feel I'm finally in a good position to answer that question.

Writing is an expression of life experiences. However old you are, your writing is valid. The craft part of it takes some time, but that too is about experience. You have to do it to get better at it. And every time you do it, it counts--even if it's just for you--but I bet it will matter to someone just like you.

I think the depth and breadth of good erotica comes from this kind of varied background of exceptional influences. Sex isn't just body parts, it's experiences, to paraphrase what you've been saying. As a writer of erotica, do you find yourself defending the genre or your own writing, or do you just let the stories speak for themselves?

Looks like it's just Cole, Brenda and Toys. Wish I could pass the bottle!

I have a question for Brenda. When dealing with such diverse voices and themes, from a publishers POV how do you decide what will make a good anthology?

well we really do not play with the toys as much as I'd like. Our sex is great usually if he's not getting bored. When he gets bored or cannot stay hard then I feel the need to spice it up with toys or something diffrent you know. To keep it interesting. I have noticed he obviously gets bored, and I think it's because he constantly ejaculates. We could have sex 3 times a day and he would still go into the bathroom, exclude me, and jack to porn! This upsets me, it's like I'm not enough for him! I asked him to watch porn with me, and it took him 3 months to actually do it. He asks me for anal and I'm all game, give him everything he wants when he wants. So where's my delima?

I agree. There definitely isn't a age requirement when it comes to writing. I've read some stuff from a girl who from her writing I swore was an older experienced writer, come to find out she was 13. Her writing was beautiful. I hope she kept at it.

I don't know about Cole, but I find myself defending the idea that A-A erotica can be beautiful, sexy, intelligent and provocative--both for mind and body. Folks are use to the one note and many are tired of hearing it sung. Other than a few of my relatives, I don't have to defend my work because I am able intellectulize and give a reason for what I write. Probably too much reason and intellectualizing. And probably because there is still a part of me that needs to make it an 'acceptable' thing to do.

So how many have read the selections from tonight, sorry if this was already mentioned, I am showing up a little late to the party. I really enjoy Making the Hook Up myself. The very first story had me almost rolling on the floor laughing. Not many books can do that, but I was very amused. I loved it and recommend it highly for a good erotica selection that also has a lot of humor.

I do not defend my writing of erotica. Most people, including most of my family, know I do it. And I do let the stories speak for themselves. One of my writers wrote a story while she was hospitalized. Another wrote a story while going through a divorce. And another while going through family mayhem. I learned from them.

I have not had the oportunity to read either of them. I actually do not think I have ever read anything like this with the exception of one book several years ago. It was sexual in nature but porly written so I do not recall the name. However I'd love to read these. I have added them to my wish list
