Tips for edging?

Hello. I might finally have some time to spare to give edging a try next week, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips to get the most out of it. Is constant stimulation best, or a start-stop-start-stop method to keep me approaching the brink without going over. Can anyone give me some tips or some best practices?
