When do you stop using condoms?

Contributor: chicmichiw chicmichiw
If you use condoms with your partner(s), is there ever a point in a relationship where you would stop using them? I think it's a kind of commitment to make that step, especially in trust. And of course, provided there's some other form of contraception if you're not into kids at the moment.

After you've been dating a while and are planning for the long term and would be okay with the possibility of a child happening

We used them religiously in the beginning but just kind of stopped after awhile. We had to order them online because we wanted vegan ones and that was just a lot of money. We still have one sitting in the drawer... lol.

It's not about a specific time or milestone for me. We stopped using condoms when we knew we were both clean of STDs and I went on the pill, and still didn't use condoms for a while after I went off the pill. We started using condoms again after we had our son and hormonal birth control didn't agree with my system anymore.

Both of us were tested and I was on Birth control. we never used condoms, we waited 3 months before we had sex. we said I love you after the first time.

We stopped after we both got tested, were monogamous, and I was on the pill.

We started out using them but it didn't take long for us to stop... I don't know the exact time, but they offer NO sensation for him and I hate them, too. I'm on the pill, we always pull out, and we're completely monogamous.

I can't remember exactly, I think it was about 3 months into our relationship but he was always good about pulling out.

We never used condoms. My wife was on the pill and have been monogamous the whole time we've been together. After our second child she had her tubes tied.

I see no reason to use protection when I have an IUD. The only time I would use it is if I was with a partner who had an STI.

Condoms are my only method of BC, so the only time that we didn't use them was when we were trying to get pregnant.

I don't worry about getting pregnant since I can't but I do want protection from STD's & STI's.

I trust my partner completely, but after 5 years we still use condoms. I'm just really paranoid about getting pregnant.

I don't think I will stop using them unless we go through a method of sterilization. I don't want kids so I'm on the pill AND use a condom. We're super paranoid too. We're not married, I we both have no STDs or STIs to worry about, but we are in a long distance relationship so the worst thing I can go home with is a baby.

I don't really get how or why people don't use them if they don't want kids. It just seems kind of selfish to me that you're willing to risk bringing a new life into this world at the sake of your pleasure.

Granted, I'm a virgin (still do other stuff with my GF since we're obviously on this site), but still, I can't even imagine the idea of "we'll take a pregnancy if it happens" either, since I know I'd definitely need to plan for that. 9 months can fly by pretty quick.
