Chemistry Volume 2 by Vivid - review by Maiden

Tristan Taormino's "Chemistry: Volume 2" is the second a series of adult movies that is shot in the style of "reality" shows like "Big Brother" or "Real World". Some excerpts from the back cover of this DVD may help explain:
" Director Tristan Taormino takes eight new porn stars to a secluded house for 36 hours... What happens is completely up to them;... they know in advance who they'll have sex with, but when, where, and how is totally their call. In between sex scenes, cast-mates go into a private "confessional" where they speak openly and honestly-- about being in porn, relationships, fantasies, and their fellow cast-mates."


So basically, I get the idea from watching the film that the cast is allowed to predetermine who they want to do a scene with and where. I feel there must be some sort of discussion beforehand with the director so that the cameras, lighting, makeup, etc. are in place. What I mean to say is that some of the scenes don't look very spontaneous, or at least they don't show the lead up to them. The major scenes usually start right out with the two(or three)cast members getting right down to the action. There are other scenes filmed by the "perv cams" that indeed look like spur of the moment sex. These "perv cam" shots are where one of the cast members has a hand held camera and is actually shooting what is going on. You'll know the difference, because they put the name of the person holding the camera at the bottom of the screen. There are some interviews mixed in between the sex scenes, usually before or after, with the particular actors in the scenes. These are the "confessional" parts where they talk about how they met the other actor, or just something about them selves. There are also scenes in which you see the entire group together answering questions from Tristan such as "Who here doesn't kiss on camera?" or "Do you find your self only wanting to date people in the (porn)industry or people outside of the industry and why?" None of the interviews are spliced in the middle of a scene, so you won't get annoyed by a stop in the action to hear them talk. Also, if you wanted to watch only the sex scenes themselves and skip the interviews entirely, there is a chapter selection on the main menu as well as a "positions room" which allows you to choose certain positions taken from all of the scenes.


The cast consists of five women and three men, none of which I am familiar with. I thought I would do a quick run down for those interested:

Nat Turner- a somewhat shy, well built black man with a sexy smile, shaved head and tattoos. I found him extremely attractive.

Christian- a tall white male who is also well built and has a shaved head. Shaved heads are a major turn on for me. He seems to be a really laid back guy who is always up for anything. There is some discussion that he has been in gay porn, though you get the impression that he is straight.

Mark Wood- an "average" looking guy (though cute), with a sense of humor. He reminds of me of several guys I used to date.

Kimberly Kane- a long legged and lean short haired blond, who also seems pretty cool and laid back. The chemistry between her and Christian is very apparent in their scene together.

Kaiya Lynn- a petite Asian woman who is cute as hell; a beautiful smile and well rounded body proportions. She seems a little shy at first, but you soon see her fun naughtiness come out.

Lucious Lopez- a beautiful woman of Latin descent, she has an exotic face and a big beautiful ass.

Lexi Bardot- the "cool" chic, as far as looks; dark hair and colorful tatts. The only thing that bugs me about her is she has a slight "nasal" quality to her voice that can get distracting, as she is very vocal during her scenes.

Katja Kassin- Born in Germany, she has a sexy accent. She also has a nice big ass, which I love. You get from her interviews that she is a bit "traditional" in her beliefs, even for a porn star. Don't let her sweetness fool you though, she is as naughty as the rest of them.

There are 11 scenes in all with a good variety in positions and pairings. There are male/female scenes, as well as female/female, and male/female/female. Tristan provides plenty of lube and a variety of sex toys that you will see used during the scenes. Most common are glass dildos, which is a treat for me as they are my favorite toys to play with. There is a scene where Katja Kassin uses the Pure Plug 2.0. There is also a scene where Kaiya Lynn uses a traditional style vibe in the ass of Christian, which I found totally hot. As the credits roll on the first disk, a blooper reel of sorts plays, though most is just small excerpts from the movie itself. There is also a second disc with over an hour of bonus footage including more sex scenes. To be honest, I didn't have time to watch it. This review was already weeks past due as I was trying to wait for my man and I to have time to watch this together. That rarely happens though, especially with his crazy work schedule, so I sat down to watch this myself. The main feature is over two hours long by itself, so I was lucky to have enough time to watch that. I will definitely review the bonus footage for my follow up review. From what I recall from the first "Chemistry", it should definitely be worth watching.



Personally, I love these movies. I enjoy the interviews most of all because it allows me to get to know the actors a little bit, and get a sense of their personalities. Also, in some cases, the interviews help to discover who really has chemistry with each other. For me this helps make the sex seem all the more realistic. Speaking of which, this film won "Best Gonzo" at the AVN Awards. For those of you who don't know, "gonzo" is a word used to describe a style of porn that is shot in such a way as to make you feel like you are right there in the room with the action. There is no background music, no written dialogues, and no distracting sets or costumes. It's like watching real sex, or as real as sex gets with professionals. This is my favorite type of porn, and I must say, the "Chemistry" series is the best I've seen. I think this is mostly due to the interviews and the footage shot outside of the actual sex scenes. They help build up the idea that the sex is "real". One example is an interview with Kimberly Kane in which she describes how she was a huge fan of Christian, one of her sex partners during this movie. She talks about how she saw him in porn before ever meeting him, and that she was turned on by his performances. Later, after their scene together, she talks about how what they did in that scene is how they would fuck in "real" life. Meaning, doing what felt good and natural, instead of doing something forced because of something specific the director wanted. Their scene together is the first in the movie, and I really enjoyed it.

I LOVE this series and can't wait to get the others. I have recommended this one in particular to several friends. If you hate how fake porn sex is, this series will be perfect for you. It's definitely worth the purchase, and if you love it as much I do, you'll want the entire series!
