A Good Novice or Backup Vibe, But Not A First Choice

This is a simple vibrator for most women on most occasions. It's a nice style to purchase as your first vibrator or if you just don't want something too long/small. Its sleek style does the job for many women. However, this also means that there are absolutely no "bells and whistles" for women who have difficulty achieving orgasm from low vaginal stimulation alone. That said, every woman should have a traditional vibrator in her toy box.
Published:
Pros
Simple/traditional shape, works for most women, doubles as a massager, easy to clean/maintain.
Cons
Too simple, lack of stimulation, lack of options, not discreet, dial control can be cumbersome.

Use

Overall, I would call this an okay traditional vibrator that makes a good "staple" item in your toy collection. There are traditional vibrators out there that are worse and ones that are better---but this vibrator is inexpensive and lasts for quite awhile. (I've had mine for over 5 years.) At about 7" in length (about 6.75" insertable, excluding base) and 4.75" circumference, this vibrator will work for almost all women.

Because it isn't too long or wide, it also works well as a couples' vibrator. It won't be very intimidating to your partner. (I might still recommend starting out with a bullet or mini-vibrator for a first couples' toy experience, but a traditional vibrator of this size will also work without being overwhelming for most men.)

Beyond the intended use as a vaginal vibrator, this toy can also be used for clitoral stimulation when used with care. It also doubles well as a point massager. There are better massagers on the market, but traditional vibrators have the unique feature of function as both a massager and vaginal vibrator. If nothing else, it makes for some nice foreplay...especially if you find a good back massage to be near orgasmic.

Material / Texture

Doc Johnson's Janine's traditional vibrator is made from a "classic", inexpensive plastic. This gives it a smooth, non-porous texture that allows for easy cleaning and versatility in use. It is also free of phthalates and latex (for those who have reactions). However, the rock hard consistency might not be for everyone. It's definitely far from being realistic. The texture/hardness can easily lead to boredom after a while if it is the only vibrator you own.
    • Not porous at all
    • Rigid
    • Smooth

Design / Shape / Size

I would describe the shape and size as versatile. It is good toy to give to a novice (or purchase for yourself) or a "staple" toy to keep in your toy collection alongside more complex toys. As previously stated, this traditional vibrator is approximately 7" in length (insertable length is more like 6.5-6.75" due to the base at the end) and 4.75" in circumference for most of its length. This is a good size for a traditional vibrator, but isn't overly intimidating or lacking in size. The shape is a traditional elongated, tapering bullet. It is completely smooth---lacking bumps or other texture.

The tapering end can be helpful during insertion, but I find myself preferring more realistic or rounded tips. With a tapered end, you do need to be careful (if you aren't very deep) to not bump the cervix or it can be painful for some women. (This may require some discussion with your partner and exploration before "handing over the reins" during couples' play.)

Because it is 7" long, I would not call this a discreet or travel-friendly vibrator. I actually cannot imagine putting this wand in my purse to take with me anywhere. (For one, I'm sure TSA would confiscate it if you tried to fly with it.) It's also not easy to hide. No, this is a vibrator that you'll want to store in your toy box or tuck under the bed in order to keep it out of sight.

Functions / Performance / Controls

I've owned this vibrator for many years, and it's performed well during that time. However, it does have some flaws in its design/controls that would cause me to lean away from purchasing this particular model again when I need to replace it. (This vibrator was actually a gift from a friend.)

Vibrations are controlled by turning a dial at the base of the product. This allows for gradual increase of stimulation. However, it isn't the most convenient location and takes a moment to adjust. That can take away from your fun during solo play. The dial is a bit more convenient for partner play since the dial is right on the end of the product. Your partner might need to pause to make adjustment to the vibration speed the first time you play with this toy. But, after that, he should be able to adjust the dial without looking at it.

The vibrations on this model are steady and range from a "teasing buzz" to "deep rumbling". The low end of the range is nice for foreplay (whether during solo or couples play), while the high end is nice for inducing vaginal orgasms and caring for sore muscles. Unfortunately, there are no patterns and the dial does not have discreet clicks to count. The dial control can also easily slip during solo play. So, occasionally, you'll turn off or turn up the vibrations to your dismay.

One additional issue with this vibrator is that it sometimes makes an odd whiny noise when turned up to the highest point on the dial. This may be because I've had mine for many years and the motor is starting to go on it, but I cannot remember a time when it didn't make that noise. Although I rated this product as two bees, it jumps to 3-4 bees when that noise occurs.

As with more traditional vibrators, this one is not waterproof or splash-proof.
    • Long lasting power
    • Not enough variety
    • Not very discreet

Care and Maintenance

One of this product's greatest strengths is that it is quite easy to clean and maintain. Being plastic, it wipes clean quickly with soap and water or a toy cleaner. I've also used some rubbing alcohol on this toy when I've needed to get it extra clean. The one spot that can be difficult to clean is the ridges on the base of the product (near the dial). This product really needs a small bump to give resistance before you hit the base and act as a splash guard. With normal use, you are going to need to use your fingernails to clean between those ridges to avoid "gunk" buildup there.

Another advantage to plastic toys is that you do not necessarily need a bag or cover for this product. It won't pick up lint or other debris easily or react with other toys. So, you could just clean this toy and drop it into your toy box or under your pillow without worrying about it. Plastic toys also hold up well to any type of lubricant (water, massage oil, etc.).
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Personal comments

Please note: I'm not 100% certain that this is the exact model I own. I have a traditional Doc Johnson vibrator whose characteristics match the stats given on this model. However, it doesn't have a model name listed anywhere on the vibrator and I have owned my vibrator for many years, so I cannot say for certain that it is the Janine's model. If it is the same model, it may have been upgraded in the time that I've owned mine. The review should be applicable, though, since the features are identical and it is likely to be the same/similar model.

Good review! The TSA does let you carry sex toys with you in your carry-on bags, these days, though, FYI!

Thanks for the FYI, DeliciousSurprise. My luck, though, they would search my bag and take my toys. I've been patted down every time I've flown since the new security measures went into place.
