The Harlequin is a spin-off of a traditional vibrator. At the top of the toy, it has two feelers which resemble antenna on a caterpillar. The shaft of the toy has a swirly, ribbed design as an added feature. The total length of the toy is six and a half inches long. The total insertable length is four and a half inches (4 1/2"), but three and a half inches (3 1/2") long not including the length of the feelers. The Harlequin has a circumference of four and a quarter inches (4 1/4") and a diameter of an inch and a half (1 1/2"). The added features (the feelers and the twist) are more for aesthetic purposes than for pleasure. I could not feel the antenna, and the only way I could feel the twisted shaft was when I rotated it while I was using it. The girth of the toy was adequate, however, the shaft could have been an inch or so longer.

There are ten vibration patterns:
1) low
2) medium
3) high
4) long pulsating vibrations
5) short bursts of vibrations
6) three bursts and an escalating vibration
7) one long vibration followed by a quick one
8) a combination of long, short, and escalating vibrations
9) one long vibration, then three bursts, followed by one long vibration
10) two quick vibrations and then one long vibration

In order to reach the pattern you desire, you have to click the button until you find the one that you want. I found this inconvenient and annoying. My partner had a difficult time locating the button, and pressing and searching for the pattern I liked while it was in use. Also, the strength of the vibrations fell short. They were not as powerful as I liked them to be, except for the "high" setting.

The Harlequin is made out of a soft, velvety silicone. Also, the shaft has a slight give to it if you press your fingers on it, but is firm otherwise. It has a safety rating of ten, and is latex-free, nonporous, phthalates-free, hypoallergenic, and is food grade material safe. It is important to note that only water-based lubricants can be used with this toy because it is made out of silicone. In order to clean this toy, warm water and soap can be used, or a nonalcoholic-based toy cleaner/moist towelette can be used as well.

I loved the packaging. It came in a nicely designed black box with a cutout to view the toy. Also, the backing of the box has a magnetic closure, so it can be opened and closed to view the toy. Also, included with the toy are two AAA batteries which are required to operate the toy.

On a final note, the Harlequin is splash-proof. The battery compartment seals nicely, and when I took it in the shower, not a drop of water made it past the rubber o-ring seal. Best of all, it is extremely quiet.

I tried to learn to like the harlequin, but sadly I was unable to. The vibrations were not strong enough for me. The length of the toy was too small, and the antennae were bothersome. This toy was simply not for me; however, it may be fantastic for others. It has great features (different patterns, quiet, silicone, waterproof) so don't be discouraged.
p.s. It is a durable vibrator. I accidentally dropped it in the shower, and nothing happened. It still functions properly.
