Tradition isn't always best

This toy was okay, but it's not going to blow anyone away. If judged by the fun color and unique design, this would be a 5 star toy, but the high pitched noise it makes on the lower settings, and the problem with shifting up a setting when you turn it off, makes it a pain to use.
Published:
Pros
Lots of settings, fairly strong, waterproof, small, interesting texture, silicone, quiet.
Cons
Whiny noise, settings issue, not good for insertion.

Use

The Handy Climax Traditional is a vibrator put out by NMC Limited. It's fairly versatile, and it has a motor with quite a few functions. This toy is smaller than most 'traditional' vibrators, but longer than most bullets, so it falls somewhere in between.

The main way to use this toy is for external stimulation. The pointed tip can be used for pinpoint stimulation, but the side can be used for fairly broad stimulation. The ridged shaft is also good to stimulate your labia and the entrance to your vagina.

You also can use this toy for vaginal insertion. The swirled pattern does make thrusting unique, but it has no G-spot curve to speak of. Even though it can be inserted, the small length and girth might be less than impressive to most people.

This toy is not at all anal safe, as it has no flared base or real handle to keep it from slipping inside of you. Even experienced anal users should try and find another option, as this could quickly become a trip to the hospital.

If you're looking for a first toy to use as a couple, this would be an all right choice. It's small and made of a nice material, but due to some flaws to be discussed later, there are also nicer toys to choose from that won't break the bank.

Similarly, if you want a first toy in general, this would be an okay option. It's got a lot of settings to play with, but it also might be better to get a toy that's easier to use internally for your first foray into vibrators.

This toy is 100% fine to use in the dorms. It's quiet and very small, so you can use and stash it just about anywhere. It's also entirely waterproof, for those of you wanting to use this in the dorm showers.

Material / Texture

The Handy Climax Traditional vibrator is made of plastic and silicone. Both plastic and silicone are safe, highly rated materials on the Eden Safety Scale.

Silicone is rated a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. Silicone is nonporous and body safe, meaning that bacteria can't grow inside of it and that it doesn't contain any gross, toxic chemicals. While silicone can be boiled to disinfect it, you can't boil this toy because of the plastic components.

Plastic is rated an 8 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It is also nonporous and body safe, and while you can't boil plastic, you can disinfect it by wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution. This should be done to disinfect the Handy Climax every time you switch users.

While silicone is squishy, plastic is very firm. This toy consists of soft silicone over a hard, plastic shaft. The bottom of this toy is entirely plastic. The little ridges have a bit more give to them than the shaft, but they're still pretty firm.

When it comes to texture, this toy is fairly intense. The thin girth makes the texture mild when inserted, but it lends a very different feel when using it externally. The ridges are smooth and have no texture to themselves.

The silicone of this toy has a slight bit of drag to it, but the plastic bottom is very smooth and has no drag at all. If inserting this vaginally no lube is needed, but if you do add a few drops, a little bit goes a long way.

No matter how many toys you have, silicone and plastic are very good materials. They are nonporous and body safe, and with care they should last longer than the motor in the toy they house. While silicone is soft, the silicone in this toy doesn't have much give because of the plastic components.

Design / Shape / Size

The Handy Climax Traditional is not a 'traditional' style vibrator. Traditional vibrators tend to be about 5 inches long, straight, thin, and made of hard plastic. This is none of those, but it is still listed as 'traditional.' It is more of a silicone covered large bullet.

This toy is 4.5 inches long in total, with just over 3 of those being insertable. It's also 3.25 inches around at the widest point. Because of this, it is significantly smaller than the average penis.

One good thing about the small size is that it would be good for people not used to penetration. It also makes it good to use for clitoral stimulation and to use during intercourse. It's not safe at all to insert anally.

This toy has a pointed tip, which is what is best to use externally. The shaft is the same width all the way down, and has a pink, raised spiral wrapping around it. The texture is very noticeable when inserted, but is not intense to a painful degree. The design also makes for an interesting sensation when run across the labia.

While you can insert this toy, it's very short and thin. It also has no real G-spot curve to it, and the short length doesn't leave much to thrust with. Most people will prefer this for external use, because internally it's a bit less than awesome.

Even though it doesn't look like a giant penis, it's still fairly obvious to the passerby what this is. It's best to keep this put away when you have company. The small size makes this very easy to travel with, and it's even small enough to toss into a purse if you want.

In total, this toy is best for external use. The ridges are unique, and can give a very different feel to the toy, but it's just not a good size and length for insertion.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Handy Climax Traditional has a lot to offer as far as variety goes. It has quite a few functions, quite a bit of power, and can't be heard through a closed door. If you like toys with different patterns, this is for sure a good choice.

You control this toy by pressing the one button on the base. One neat thing is that the button lights up very brightly, enough to use it as a light source if you need to. It also pulses with the patterns, so that's neat.

As you keep pressing the button, it cycles through the settings. The settings are in a bit of a strange order, but they are as follows:

1) High (3.5 vrooms, 2 bees)
2) Medium (2 vrooms, 1.5 bees, whiny)
3) Low (1 vroom, 1 bee, very whiny)
4) bb bB BB BZ ZZ bb bB BB BZ ZZ (Not whiny)
5) bBBBZbBBZbBBZbBBZ (Whiny)
6) BZZ BZZ BZZ BZZ (Not whiny)
7) BZBZBZBZBZBZBZBZ (Not whiny)
8) bzzz bzzz bzzz bzzz (Whiny)
9) BZZZ BZZZ BZZZ BZZZ (Not whiny)
10) bzzzbzzzzbzzzzbzzzzbzzz (Whiny)

Along with the vroom and bee ratings, some of these settings are also very whiny. This refers to a very high pitched, nails-on-the-chalkboard sound that the slower settings make. This can be drowned out by the shower and can't be heard under a blanket.

Another con to the functions is that, once you turn the toy off by holding down the button for 3 seconds, it turns on again on the setting AFTER the one you turned it off on. For example, if it is turned off on 7, it will turn on again at 8. This means that you can't just leave it on a non-whiny setting, but you have to cycle through all 10 to get to the one you want.

The low setting is the most rumbly, while the high setting is fairly buzzy. This would be less of a problem if the low setting didn't make the terrible noise it does. This dissuades users from using the lower speeds, even if they might like them better.

This toy is also entirely waterproof, which makes cleaning very easy. It's also a good bath or shower companion because of the thick O-ring sealing out any water.

In total, this toy has a lot to offer, but it also has some flaws. It's certainly great for people who like patterns and need a quiet toy, but if whiny noises bother you, this toy won't be your new favorite.
    • Discreet sound
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Multiple settings

Care and Maintenance

This toy is very easy to care for, especially if you stick to external use. It's not a lint magnet, so as long as you keep it in a clean location, you can get away with washing it only after each use. You can wash this toy with an antibacterial toy cleaner, a toy wipe, or soap and water.

If you do insert this toy, the ridges do tend to collect a lot of gunk. The best way to clean the ridges quickly is with an old toothbrush, but using a fingernail or toothpick under a paper towel is also a good way to make sure you get this toy entirely clean.

You also can disinfect this toy by wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution. This should be done every time you switch users to prevent the spread of bacteria and infection. It can't be boiled, and shouldn't be put into the dishwasher.

This toy is best stored in a cool, dark place. You should avoid storing this toy in contact with other silicone toys, because the two could react to each other. Similarly, this toy should not be used with silicone based lubes.
    • Easy to store
    • Hard to clean

Packaging

The Handy Climax Traditional has very basic packaging. It has no real images on it, and isn't the most discreet, but it's also not as cheap as some toys come in.

The front of the box has a transparent area where you can see the toy. The plastic the toy is held in is black, so it really makes the pink material stand out. It also lists the name of the toy and the brand, but has little other information.

On the back of the box is some basic information in very small print. It's in many different languages, but if you don't want to get out your magnifying glass to read it, there are additional instructions inside about batteries and use.

This box is much larger than the toy itself, so it's not ideal for storage. It's also not very convenient to have to open every time you want to use your toy. It would be an okay design to wrap up and give as a gift, but it's pretty obvious what's inside.

Experience

This toy was given to me as a DR, and even though I didn't like the first Handy Climax toy I had tried, I was hoping that this one would be better. It also seemed to have a really interesting texture, was made of a good material, and seemed small enough to travel with.

I was just as disappointed by this toy as the first one. It's just as whiny, and so the only only way I can use it is under the covers or in the shower to cover up the noise. If you can stand the annoying noise this is pretty quiet, though, so it would be good for people living in the dorms.

In total, this toy was not the best. The settings issue, where it turns back on to the setting AFTER the one you turned it off on, on top of the other faults, bumped this down to a 3 out of 5 star rating. Some people might like it, but it's not a better than average toy.
