The usual use for a cock ring is twofold: one, to prolong an erection and two, to improve sex. This review, however, is going to look at the Cock Commander from another angle, how it works as a masturbation device. On the whole it’s a decent masturbation aid and comfortable to wear, but cannot bring a person to climax.

When placed onto the base of the penis, the erection is firmed, but not solidified; it will soften if the wearer is no longer aroused. To test this, I read through a political newswire while wearing the ring, to gauge how long the erection lasted. When the penis is erect, but unengaged, the ring will maintain an erection for around five minutes before the blood finally drains and penis becomes flaccid once more.

In regards to the sensation of the vibrations, it’s quite pleasurable. It’s difficult to describe, but anyone who has used a wand, or any type of powerful vibrator on the penis should be familiar with the sensation. From my experience, however, it is unable to bring a person to climax.

Being unable to cause an orgasm means the toy has advantages and problems. On the one hand, when using a cock ring with a partner the last thing most men want is to finish even sooner (except perhaps for those with delayed climax); this can be seen as a positive. The problems lie with masturbation.

As a masturbation device, the Cock Commander leaves much to be desired. As stated, it’s not powerful enough to bring a man to climax, but it also restricts motion. While wearing this, the penis loses almost all of its flexibility. For those with longer penises, sleeves or oral sex may be used in conjunction with the ring, but it prevents any type of stroking-based masturbation. That being said, it provides a powerful vibration to the penis and the apparatus can be placed into the testicles to provide more stimulation. The texture of the base did not provide any sensation to the penis.

The vibrations, while not strong enough for a penis, should be enough to massage the clitoris pleasurably. For male-male couples, or female with a strap-on-male this should probably be worn by the person not penetrating. If the penetrator wears the ring during intercourse, there are few, if any positions where the ring would provide sensation to both partners. Since the male penetrator's penis already is already being stimulated through intercourse, the partner should wear the ring. For females with a strap-on having intercourse with men, the male should wear this, as a cock ring does little to stimulate a strap-on.

With the simple vibrating mechanism and easy-to-apply base, this is a great toy for those new to cock rings.

The Cock Commander’s material is an overall positive, with only a few complaints. It’s made of a safe material, but is not safe enough to allow for sharing. Finally, while comfortable and stretchy it’s sticky and prone to picking up random debris.

To begin, it is TPR (thermoplastic rubber), which means it has a safety rating of 7 making it a safe choice of material. The problem is its porosity, which is less porous than cyberskin, but more than silicone, meaning the toy should not be shared unless a condom is used. For male-female couples this probably is not an issue, but male-male couples should either use condoms or each person should have an individual ring.

The material is stretchy, but not so stretchy that it won’t clasp onto a penis tightly. Further, it is virtually odorless, with only a faint chemical smell that is only noticeable when held up to a person’s nose. When left around, it tends to pick up hair and other organic debris. To clean, remove the vibrator and gently wash with warm soapy water.

The firm, but gentle plastic of the toy offers an easy introduction for beginners. The entrance point of the cock ring is stretchable, fitting most sized penises without difficulty, unless they are in the extreme outlier (extremely large or small). When removing the ring, it may stick to the penis, making it mildly painful to remove unless stretched out and lifted.

The ring has three sets of textured nubbles, one around the base of the ring and two on the apparatus of the ring, which are for the wearer's partner. The nubbles around the base are spherical, ten in total and arranged in a circle. The second cluster of nubbles are rod shaped, located just south of the base. There are seven in all, each about half a centimeter tall, also arranged in a circle. Finally, there is a cluster by the vibrator with nine nubbles of plastic lined up in a ridge.

The larger ring can be stretched over the testicles, but the vibrations do not offer much sensation to the testicles.

This ring is quite simple, which has its drawbacks. There are only two speeds for the vibrator: on and off. If it's too powerful, the only option is to wait for the batteries to die and if it's not powerful enough, there's nothing that can be done. The advantage is that it's easy to turn on and off with a push of the button, but that's about it.

This ring takes a roll of four LR44 batteries. On amazon.com a ten pack of these cost $2.29, which, while cheap, still amounts to $0.916 worth of batteries to power this toy.

As the cleaning of the toy has already been mentioned, the storage will be discussed. The ring is five inches long, it can fit in the palm of many peoples' hands and is easy to store. Place it within a lock box, the bottom of a drawer, or basically anywhere. This is undoubtedly a cock ring however, and precautions should be taken when stored. First, it should be covered if not hidden. Second, the vibrations are audible in most environments, so it probably should not be transported, even when hidden. The "on" button is not sensitive, but if jostled in a confined space, it may activate nonetheless.
