Awakening, The by Vivid - review by thornrose

I realize that I am not the average young woman. I never really got into watching porn and The Awakening is the first actual porn movie I have ever seen. I was worried because the idea of watching people have sex, tacky sets, and bad dialogue really didn't appeal to me. Honestly, it seemed kinda gross to me! Still, lots of the toys I have tried recently were not really appealing until I tried them. So I decided to give this movie a try and I was surprised to find that I actually liked the story....until I reached the end.

The movie started pretty normally. The main character, her husband, her sister and brother in law were in a car accident. The main character was let without the use of one of her legs and limited feeling below the waist. Her husband was desperate and the couple visit a New Age Shop so she can undergo acupuncture treatments. After a week or so of treatments she is feeling better and wanting to have sex. Something is still off, however, and she feels the need to purify herself.

Her husband is pretty wild and she is getting tired of the sex parties. She feels as though she cannot handle it any more so she buys a book that promises to change her life...and it does. She goes on a retreat but her husband finds her and tries his best to get her to leave with him. She declines but the next day they receive a call that her sister has over used her body having sex! OH NO!

Our main character is distraught and takes her sister to see a preacher and gives her the book that will change her life. The preacher seems like a good bet but he tries to rape the sister. The main character's marriage falls apart and she is reduced to working in a strip club for money while still trying to "purify" herself. She is alone and sad.

The story line started out pretty good but then took a U turn and went into weird "Lala Land". The sex was pretty vanilla, the near rape scene aside, and included oral, anal and vaginal sex.

I'm not sure I want to watch any other porn in the future. I was not impressed by this movie and still feel like it's a bit gross. Perhaps porn just isn't my thing. Still it could be that this was just an odd little movie.

I wanted to cry. The movie started out so good and then went into some weird realm where if you are spiritual, you can't have sex in order to be pure. So stupid in a nasty and negative sort of way.

I really don't like the story that you have to be the good girl and not like sex or sexuality, or you have to be a hoe. I really don't like the stereotype. Why can't you be a good girl who likes sex and is sexually happy with yourself? No one has to know what goes on behind close doors.
