Erocktavision Volume 7. ChixMix - dvd - review by Safo Garcia

Erocktavision Volume 7 is a highly stylized, well-made porn set to music and starring thin, mostly attractive femme women, a couple of whom have fake breasts. It's made by a woman director, but it's more L-Word than Suicide Girls. It would definitely appeal to most fans of the L-Word, but is antithetical to my own tastes because I strongly dislike fake boobs but love natural aural stimulation and diverse body and gender types. The intrepid director experiments with camera movements and special effects (like interspersed shots in sepia and other wild colors, jagged camera movements and cuts, rapid fade outs and changes in focus, and other things that make it resemble a music video). She is well-known for this, and I know that this is the 7th volume in a pretty popular series--more evidence that my failure to love it is based on my own idiosyncrasies.

Perhaps most importantly, there is absolutely no moaning on this DVD; the soundtrack is exclusively hip-hop and electronic dance music. The music itself is not too bad: it’s definitely not typical porn music, and I wouldn’t mind it if I were in a bar. But frankly, I especially get off on the moaning and gasping that’s in most porn, so the lack of human sound was a big drawback for me. In the 70s, they used to sell pornographic records with the sounds of people having sex and talking dirty—I imagine those would get me off far more than stylized images of cookie-cutter women having sex set to music. But keep in mind that I’m a very aural person, and I talk constantly during sex. If you’re not a moaner or a talker, and visual stimulation is most important to you, you will probably like this DVD a great deal more than I did. On the plus side, you can play this at full volume without alerting any eavesdroppers to the fact that you’re watching porn. I could also see the value in projecting it at a sex party or lesbian nightclub.

The first vignette begins in medias res, as do the others, with two girls making out against a brick wall in an industrial setting--one of them is strikingly beautiful with seemingly natural breasts and the other is long-faced, painfully thin, and obviously fake-titted. There are some intense close-ups of a glittery cock going in and out of a pussy, but they go on way too long for my personal taste. In fact, what distinguishes this film with a 1 hour and fifteen minute run time is the amount of time dedicated to showing a single act—definitely a plus for some people.

The second vignette is set at sea and opens with an attractive femme/sporty woman wearing nothing but a wind-breaker, Ugg boots, tongue and nipple piercings, a harness and a purple dildo. Another woman appears, similarly outfitted, lube is produced, and a blow job begins, followed by a fucking from the rear.

The third—and hottest in my opinion—vignette begins with a long make-out session between a blonde and a brunette on a couch. They both have seemingly real tits, and I wish I’d been able to hear the moaning on this one, as the blonde was especially expressive and the cunnilingus and finger fucking looked especially authentic. They end by fucking with a double dildo, but butt to butt—a position I’ve never tried before. It looks potentially interesting, but, again, it reminds me more of straight-directed porn than real life.

The fourth vignette returns to the slightly tomboyish girl on the sailboat. She fucks her partner with a blue marble Nexus dildo in her hand (why not in her own pussy?!). The fifth vignette is set on a balcony and centers on girls sporting bandanas and wife beaters. Long cunnlingus scenes ensue, with some interesting rubbing of tits against the pussy. The final vignette shows several minutes of clips from the previous vignettes—intended to be a sort of best-of reel, I suppose.

The special features include a rather long behind-the-scenes film, showing the director’s instructions and some moaning. It’s is interesting, but unfortunately mostly accompanied by a music soundtrack. There’s also a slide show--again, set to music.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get very wet while watching this film. I think that if the soundtrack were not exclusively music, I would have gotten off on it a lot more because aural stimulation is key for me, as I said above. I’m giving it three stars because it’s a truly unique porn experience that I think most people would really enjoy, but it doesn’t work for me—mostly because of the soundtrack.

The back of the DVD claims that Erockatavision is “made by hot lesbians for everyone who wants to know what it’s really like.” In response to that, I have to say 1) I can’t speak for the hotness of the creators, but the stars are thin, sometimes blatantly fake-titted women who fuck pretty much like porn stars in film geared towards straight men and 2) this is not quite how real people have sex. At least not on a regular basis. I don’t fuck standing up against the scenic back-drop of an abandoned brick warehouse, do you? Sure, maybe on an especially hot night I might start out standing up, but I don’t get paid enough to get fucked while standing on *one* leg and leaning the other up against a metal beam. I suppose that what differentiates it from lesbian scenes geared towards a straight male audience includes: a great deal of attention and time paid to strap-on sex, blow jobs, and camera technique. The women are not Suicide Girls. They’re all very thin, a few have fake breasts, and most of them are hard-core femme. Two seem potentially softly butch, or at least sporty. Most have at least one piercing or tattoo, but many also have long, painted nails and wear porn-star make-up. Some actresses seem to recur in different scenes (and do, according to the credits), but I had a hard time identifying them on sight because they're all white-looking with similarly thin bodies.
