Playgirl: Erotic Encounters - dvd by Playgirl TV - review by Alan & Michele

Erotic Encounters is a compilation of eight short scenes, all with a different theme, that have a female voice-over narrative to tell the story at the beginning of each.

Every scene features a different heterosexual couple, and there is no dialogue; just the opening narratives before they cut to music and muted sex sounds. The sex is soft-core, generally following a standard pattern of oral (both male & female), and then two common sexual positions. The “come shots” are all done on the woman’s back or stomach.

We have enjoyed other Playgirl videos in the past, but Erotic Encounters was a bit disappointing on average. Here is a quick summary of the scenes:

Rock Hard (starring Taylor Lee and Nick Manning ): Taylor lusts after her hard-bodied landscaper, and he’s more than willing to give her what she wants. After some sexy play with the garden hose, and lots of kissing, they use a bench and a large boulder to have sex on. It actually was an erotic scene, filmed outdoors with natural lighting and pleasant scenery, and the sex was arousing.

In the Alley (starring Sascha and Alex Devine): A girl walks into a dark alley to use the payphone, and sees a guy lounging there. She decides she wants this stranger, and immediately starts making out with him. The sex itself was somewhat arousing, because it did get a bit rough, but the whole theme of the scene detracted from it. Is it just us, or would anyone else find it disturbing to see someone hump a complete stranger in a dirty alley with no condom?

Dirty Laundry (starring Grant Michaels and Michelle Lay): Michelle is hanging laundry in front of a rundown shack, but soon forgets her task when Grant approaches. After some casual kissing, they proceed to exchange oral sex before he props her on a crate for run-of-the-mill frontal and doggie style. It was filmed outdoors with bright natural lighting and good camera angles.

At the Concession Stand (starring Violet Blue and Nick Jacobs): Violet has the hots for the guy working the concession stand at a movie theater, and decides to do something about it. Again, we have the standard oral / frontal / doggie sex, this time on a stool behind the concession stand counter. The lighting isn't all that great in this one, and the sex was boring.

Junk Yard Dogs (starring August and Kris Slater): August goes to the junkyard to “greet” the new guy in town. She gives him a blowjob, and then they screw in a couple of positions on a worktable. Not erotic, but they did have arousing sex. The camera angles weren’t bad, but we did notice that he somehow managed to wind up without any pants… with his work boots still on!

Court Yard (starring Roxanne Hall and Jean Val Jean): It opens with Roxanne dramatically draped over the side of a fountain, and the narrative explains that she is longing for someone to dominate her. It sounded promising, but again the sex was just average with no “dominating” going on at all. Even worse, toward the end when Jean does begin to ride her a little harder, the camera focuses on his face only.

Upstairs, Downstairs (starring Kelly Klein and Marcus Leon): Kelly fantasizes about the guy from the apartment downstairs, and entices him to make her fantasies come true. They have sex in the standard oral-then-two-positions pattern on his couch. If you like reality porn this scene will appeal to you. It had a “voyeuristic’ feel to it, and looked like it was literally filmed in someone’s living room, with darkened lighting.

Vampyre (starring Vanessa Lane and Niko): Vanessa is being seduced by her vampire lover, and you can tell from the start it‘s going to be hot. Shot on a Gothic set with appropriate costuming and lighting, the lead-up is slow and erotic. The sex was quite arousing, and broke the standard pattern set by the other scenes.

Niko was dominating, as a male vampire should be, and Vanessa must be one of the most acrobatic women in porn. She’s literally got her feet behind her head while he eats her out, and when they have frontal sex she’s doing the splits. She then does a rough backwards cowgirl position on him before giving him a closing blowjob. There are a couple of cheesy “special effects” during their foreplay (such as when he does a slow-motion free-fall into the bed), but it was still a great scene.

Perhaps we’ve come to expect too much from Playgirl videos, but it seemed that Erotic Encounters might have been a collection of scenes that didn’t “make the cut” for their other ones. The majority of it just didn’t appear as well thought-out as most of their films are.

Alan says: Playgirl videos are usually good to watch with the wife, either for a relaxing lead-in to sex or for “background porn”, but some of this stuff was a turn off. The only thing I really enjoyed was the vampire scene. Still, everyone's tastes are different, and I'm sure there are people who will absolutely love this movie, if nothing else then for the variety of themes that it offers.

Michele says: Aside from the first and last scenes, I really didn’t care for this video at all. I actually started to fall asleep during a one of the acts, and watching a couple of the actors made me say “WHY would she want to shag HIM?!” The other Playgirl videos we’ve watched were much better, though this video is worth keeping for the few scenes that we did enjoy.

On average we enjoy PlayGirl's videos (and we have most of them now), but this is one that neither of us ever became any more fond of. It's headed for our "Videos to toss" pile the next time we do a clean out of the video cabinet, and we'd suggest that anyone interested in PlayGirl's videos start off with something like Tantric Sex Secrets, Deep Indulgence, or Bodies in Heat instead.
