Treasure Trove of Knowledge about Female Sexuality

This book seamlessly combines Western and Eastern techniques for improving the body's capacity for orgasm. Taking a more medical approach, it provides information that is rich enough to revisit again and again. The approachable tone of the work and the refreshing outlook of the Taoists towards sexuality make this book a classic.

About author

The Multi-Orgasmic Woman has two authors. One is a female Western medical doctor and the other is a male Eastern Taoist master. Though this book is co-authored, the "voice" of the text comes from the female side of the duo, Rachel Carleton Abrams. This decision was made in order for the book to be more approachable to women, as women are what this book is all about!

Master Chia is a lifelong Taoist practitioner who founded a system of Taoist practice called Universal Tao. He has also developed the Healing Love practices, which focus specifically on Taoist sexual wisdom. This system has been taught to thousands of people around the world over the last thirty years.

Rachel Carleton Abrams is a doctor who specializes in women's health. Interestingly, her husband co-wrote The Multi-Orgasmic Man with Master Chia.

The combined knowledge of these two people is incredibly valuable. The synthesis this book presents is graceful and holistic.

Content / Style / Audience

This book is approachable and deeply knowledgeable, like an excellent doctor. Surely this style is a natural expression from a woman who is an M.D. The introduction has a lovely calming quality to it, addressing both women who struggle with sexual pleasure and those who come easily and would like to become multi-orgasmic. The introduction is followed by a quiz that helps readers reflect on their current sexual status. The results from the quiz also guides the reader to different sections of the book that might be helpful.

There are chapters in this book to help women increase their sexual desire, explore their sexual anatomy, approach orgasm for the first time, expand orgasms to fill their entire body, experiment with multiple orgasms, and cultivate sexual health throughout life. It addresses topics including roadblocks to orgasm, strengthening the P.C. muscle, contraception, female ejaculation, and breast massage.

Mantak Chia, the second author of this book, contributes with the Taoist perspective on sexuality. Sex has been central to Taoists as a way to measure and increase life force for thousands of years. Master Chia has developed specific exercises to increase the amount of energy (chi) in the body, purify this energy, and channel it to produce great sexual pleasure, including multiple orgasms. These exercises, and more, are included in the book.

The co-authorship is one of the strongest parts of The Multi-Orgasmic Woman. This is because there are two different perspectives and approaches; so, if one isn't as effective, the other very well might be. Since both authors are such experts, their contributions can stand alone. However, they do make an elegant combination.

Personal comments

This is a book that I return to, again and again, because of its depth of knowledge and its approachability. The knowledge that I have gained from it has given me validation that sex is vitally important and worthy of thoughtful and loving attention. My outlook has shifted more towards making decisions in my life that nurture my sexuality. I do the healing sounds practice myself and always find it calming and re-focusing.

This book really goes for the root of how sex is important for human beings. I mean, none of us would have been born if it were not for sex. Hearing the Taoist perspective on this is really inspiring, as they have been working with that fact in mind for thousands of years.
Follow-up commentary
I treat this volume like a reference book. I come back to it from time to time to revisit some of the techniques and to look for answers and ideas for issues I am having. It is a very well-grounded piece with a lot of knowledge in it.
