Damn Great Bar

Spartacus's spreader bar with triangle rings is beautiful and well-made for it's price—its worth the high price tag, definitely. It's sturdy, made of a high-quality leather outside and firm plastic inside, and has a total of seven hooks for a multitude of uses. I've really enjoyed it, and it's been a great addition to my collection!

Pros
Absolutely beautiful with great hooks and high-quality leather. A good buy, if you can afford it.
Cons
Prefer the snap hooks, but these are better than I expected.

extremely useful review
Obviously, by the title, you can tell how much I like this exquisite spreader bar by Spartacus. And yes, before saying anything else, I will say that it is worth the high price (which I was slightly skeptical about before reviewing it). It's made of high-quality, top grain leather, is extremely firm, and can be used in a variety of ways because of its different hooks. I am glad to own this little bar—and yes, I mean little, as it's much smaller than most that I have used and seen.

The bar is a total of 24" long (and 26 1/2", when you lay the triangle rings down flat) and 2 1/2" wide (pretty wide for a bar). The length may sound like a lot but it truly is barely anything. If you stand up and spread your legs so that your ankles are about two feet apart, you'll see what I mean. Usually, when I am standing normally, my feet are about a foot apart, so if you have particularly long legs or stand with a wide spread, then this bar will not give a desired "effect."

For shorter legs or people, or those who keep their feet very close together, the bar will definitely give a nice, wider spread than what's normal. But that's not the only use for a spreader bar—not by far. There are plenty of other uses for this thing, like keeping the back straight, or spreading the wrists above the head. But I'll talk about those later.

You may think that because this is leather that it is flexible and unworthy of being used. But I've found that even with a large amount of pressure put onto it, it does not snap or bend. The interior has an unmovable, firm piece of plastic or wood that makes this bar firm and not wiggly, like it might otherwise be if it was just a leather bar. Along the length of it are a total of seven different triangle rings, all tightly and securely placed in the spreader. They are not faceted, save for the ends which are, but I have tugged and tugged, and even in use, none of these ripped out.

Since the rings are triangles, you'll want to make sure that you have the proper attachments. I personally have tons of different double-snaps and rings to use with my cuffs, so I'm safe in that department. But if you don't, or would rather be able to easily just clip your cuffs onto the bar, I suggest buying the spreader bar with snap hooks, as it will make play slightly easier for you.

I am not exactly sure what type of metal is uses for these rings, but as always, buy with caution. Each of the rings is a fairly large size (about one inch from the bottom to the top) and there should be a sufficient space for you to use attachments with it.

Something that's fun to do with the bar (though it's completely NOT made for this purpose) is spanking. Yeah, I know, odd, but it's just so firm and heavy that it's hard to resist using it for that!

So how did this beauty come to me? Well, it was simply packaged in a plastic baggie, sealed with a Spartacus label. Extremely simple, easy to throw away, and minimal. Though it's not something that I'd suggest keeping for storage, this bar is so small that it can be stored anywhere. It may even fit in a drawer, depending on how big your drawer space is. I keep mine in my umbrella vase where I keep canes, paddles, and riding crops. It fits in well.

If you happen to get anything on it, either blood, makeup, or other fluids, you can wipe down the leather with either a leather cleaning solution or a damp cloth. If cleaning the rings, you may use either alcohol (be careful to not get it on the leather!) or some soap on a damn cloth. Make sure to dry all parts completely as to keep from rust and degradation of the material!

To close, let me say that I really have fallen in love with this spreader bar and wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone (money allowing). I might even buy another one, just because it's so cute and beautiful. As always, play nicely, and enjoy!
Experience
Now it's time to discuss just how to use this thing. One of the most well-known uses is for spreading the legs either for penetration or for a nice, hard beating. Which is all fine and dandy, but that's not my favorite. What I like to do is attach the top ring to a partner's collar, bring it around their back, and attach their wrist cuffs somewhere along the bar, depending on the size of their torso. That's the great thing about this bar—it's so customizable for every body. And it's great for "working up" to certain widths. Another thing that I like to do is put it at level with the submissive's bottom, behind their back, and attach their cuffs to it that way. It just looks pretty to me.

You can also do a variation on a dungeon bar by suspending it above the head in numerous ways. I don't recommend this to beginning players, but it's your choice of what you'd like to do with it. The bar's excellent for any position or use.
