Don't Bother!

Overall, this product was very disappointing. The body-safe silicone and the 10 vibration modes are pretty much the only positives. The product survived the first 20 minutes underwater, but I cannot speak for future underwater sessions. The weak, ticklish and buzzy vibrations strip the product of effectively stimulating arousal. If you’re a fan of such vibrations though, you might enjoy this toy. Otherwise, don’t bother.

Use

After receiving the Lia Teaser 2 by California Exotics in the mail, I was very excited to try this product on my girlfriend and myself. My intention was to use this as a multi-purpose vibrator employed in both solo and partner play. I hoped the vibrations would stimulate me for foreplay. For my girlfriend, I hoped to use it on her clit and inside her vagina.

This toy is for anyone who desires vibration during any sexual encounter. It can be used on any erogenous zone. I can see it used for both vaginal and anal insertion, but I would not recommend it for anal because of a lack of flared base.

Material / Texture

My first impression of this vibrator is the nice feel of the silicone. The silicone has a medium firmness; it is neither hard nor soft. There is a bit of give when squeezed. The body-safe silicone is hypo-allergenic, latex free, non-porous, and phthalates free. My second impression is how fast the silicone accumulates dust and lint. It seemed to attract any particles in its vicinity. After rinsing the vibrator off and letting it air dry, I inserted two AA batteries in the compartment and twisted the plastic cap tight.

The non-porous, hard plastic seems well made. The silicone buttons and hole in the middle of the plastic is sturdy and tight. Upon opening the vibrator, the inside battery compartment is also made of the same hard plastic and its walls are quite thick.

The metal ring looks and feels cheap. The seams on either side do not appear to be entirely waterproof because there are slivers of gaps. The gaps are more prominent on the silicone side than the plastic side. After close inspection, the gaps on the silicone side do not seem to affect the unit’s waterproof ability, but the gaps on the plastic side might.

There is no detectable smell to this toy unless you hold the silicone portion to your nose, then the smell is very faint. There is also a seam running the entire length of the silicone portion of the toy through the middle, but it does not affect performance or texture. The silicone feels nice against my body. This texture would suit users of all experience levels.

Design / Shape / Size

Dimensions:
Total length: 9”
Length of silicone shaft: 6.5”
Widest width of silicone shaft: 1.25”
Diameter of hole: 0.25”
Largest circumference of shaft: 4”

The design, while conceptually sound, is not realistically effective. The metal ring that is supposed to connect the plastic with the silicone components of the vibrator is definitely a weak point. It does not form an airtight seal on either side and it looks cheap and can scratch easily. The hard plastic is sturdy and feels great when dry, but when you have lube on your fingers or when using this unit underwater, it is very slippery to hold.

I’m not sure why there is a hole in the middle of the plastic cap. The silicone definitely helps to form a grip on the buttons, but what is the purpose of the hole? If the product designers wanted a better grip on the buttons, wouldn’t they patch up the hole with a larger piece of silicone? I suppose you could loop a piece of string through the hole and tie it. The string would secure the vibrator around your wrist (making it safer for anal insertion, but I still wouldn’t recommend it), or for hanging the toy.

There is a transparent plastic film inside the battery compartment that can be easily removed. A diagram showing correct battery alignment is printed on there. When I remove the film, place batteries inside and turn on the unit, the noise level is higher than with the film. I suppose the film serves a dual purpose, the other being a noise dampener.

The ridges on the end of the vibrator feel ok against my erogenous areas, but nothing special. My girlfriend also feels the same way about the ridges against her privates.

This toy is long, but not very wide. You could easily hide it in a toy box or a drawer, but it is not compact for travel. The shape is relatively discreet; it does not directly resemble a phallic object.

Functions / Performance / Controls

There are two buttons on the plastic cap. They are easy to press and yield a “click.” One is the power button, on/off. Whenever you power on the unit, the starting mode is #1. The other is the mode button. Each time you press the mode button, it cycles to the next vibration pattern on the list.

1. Constant vibration, lowest setting.
2. Constant vibration, medium setting.
3. Constant vibration, highest setting.
4. Fast, short pulses
5. 1 long, 1 short pulse
6. 1 long, 2 short pulses
7. 5 short pulses with increasing intensity
8. Gradual increase in intensity, fast pulses. There are two “phases” of this, each separated by two short bursts of pulsation. This mode somewhat resembles a “rumble”, but the vibrations are still buzzy.
9. First phase: gradual increase in intensity until maximum intensity and speed, then two short bursts. Second phase: reversing that order with a gradual decrease in intensity and speed, then two short bursts.
10. Three long bursts of increasing intensity, then gradual increase from low to high intensity and speed.

The vibrations of all the modes are buzzy and weak. My girlfriend loves the deep, rumbly type of vibrations, and this toy failed to fulfill her needs on any mode. When I used it on myself, the vibrations are more ticklish than anything arousing. It’s true that the toy is a “teaser” – but not in a sexual way, unfortunately.

The shaft of the vibrator is flexible from the start of the first ridge to the tip. Right below the first ridge is where the stiff vibrating component ends. Vibrations are strongest and loudest on the ridge portion, and weaker on the stiff portion. I hoped the vibrations would carry through the entire shaft with equal intensity, but that is not the case.

The toy is noisy; the buzzing sound can be heard while in the same room. However, I cannot hear it through a closed door. The noise diminishes when the ridges are enclosed in flesh (either a hand or inside the body). Oddly enough, the position of the vibrator also affects the noise: it is loudest when placed horizontally and not as loud when held vertically.

The narrower tip of the toy allows for easy insertion with some water-based lube. My girlfriend did not receive pleasure from this unit on any of her erogenous zones, only mild tickling sensations. She was frustrated to say the least.

I tested the toy underwater for about 20 minutes on constant high vibration. The vibrations are weaker underwater, still buzzy and ticklish. After 20 minutes I removed the vibrator from the tub and opened it. There was water inside the metal ring of the unit, seeping into the plastic O-ring, but it did not pass the O-ring. I am definitely questioning the waterproof ability of this unit for extended use underwater, or when the plastic O-ring starts to wear off.

Care and Maintenance

You can clean the toy with soap and water or with toy cleaner. Do not put this in the dishwater or boil it because of delicate electronics inside the unit and the exterior hard plastic. Make sure to scrub the indentations on the ribs extra carefully, as debris may be trapped in there.

I would store this toy in a plastic zip-loc bag after letting it air-dry to prevent further dust and particles. I would not want to store it with other toys in case of adverse chemical reactions. Another option is to store it inside the flimsy plastic box it came with.

There is a small “Vibrator Instruction Manual” (English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish) included inside the box, but it is generalized for all Cal Exotics vibrators, and not specific to this unit. None of the battery diagrams even pertain to this unit. The “Instructions for Use” and “Warnings” are applicable to this toy.

I would only use water-based lube with this toy because it is silicone.

Follow-up commentary
Honestly I haven't touched the Lia Teaser 2 since I used it a few times for the review. I don't like toys that are lint magnets, and the vibrations are very weak and buzzy. It's definitely a "teaser" more than anything, like a warm-up toy to an actual warm-up toy. The construction isn't that solid either, so I'm afraid to use it inside the tub.
