Butterfly dreams - rabbit vibrator discontinued by Cal Exotics - review by Arlinnae

Butterfly dreams is classified as a rabbit vibrator, as it has a penis-like shaft for penetration, and extensions for clitoral stimulation. However it is more like a bullet vibrator with a TPR butterfly sleeve.
The toy is intended as a dual-action vibrator, the shaft to be inserted in the vagina, while the butterfly would provide anal and clitoral stimulation.
The shaft is relatively small compared to classic rabbit vibrators, therefore I do not suggest it to size queens, but it could be a good start for beginners.
It is waterproof, so it can be used in the shower, but I would not want to try to submerge it under water.
It is quite noisy, therefore if being heard is a problem, you should choose another toy.
It is not a weak toy, but its not strong either, those who prefer vroomers might want to look for something different.
It is not ne bit discreet, so you should not let it out, people will not for what it is.
It is relatively small, but it’s box is not sturdy. Also the material is soft and seems to get injured pretty easily, I would not suggest to travel with it.
It has no features that would keep it in place, so it is not suitable for extended wear or to be used outside the bedrooom.

It can be used solo or with partner, and once inserted it becomes a hands free toy, as long as you are in a position that prevents it from sliding out and you do not move around.

I suppose it could be used anally (did not try) as the butterfly would stop the shaft from slipping entirely in and getting lost. However, it is made of TPR which is porous, so if you intent to use it vaginally again only insert it anally with a condom on it.


The bullet can be removed from the TPR sleeve and can be used separately. Outside of the sleeve it is somewhat quieter and has more kick to it.

The toy is made of TPR, a material that has a safety 7 out of 10. It is a food-grade material, hypo-allergenic, latex free, phthalates free, but slightly porous, therefore you need to be through and careful with the cleaning. The sleeve itself is very soft, squishy and flexible. You can bend it in any direction (without the bullet in) and it would regain its shape completely (see pictures below.)


With the bullet in the toy becomes more ridged, has only a little give to it. (see picture below)


The entire sleeve conducts the vibrations well, maybe the wings a little worse than the rest.

The surface of the toy is smooth, but it has a lot of drag without lube. It sticks to the nylon bag it is delivered in, and to any smooth plastic surfaces. This makes taking the bullet out pretty hard work, first you need to stretch and tug the sleeve away from the plastic, though it comes out a lot easier for the second time. You might want to add some lube to the bullet before placing it back n, or perhaps store it outside of the sleeve.
The shininess of the material is not homogeneous, a shining colorless material seems to be covering certain spots and the creases, while the rest of the toy is dull in color. I could not find reason for this phenomenon, but it is certainly not caused by the skin and it’s oils. Actually with your hand you can wipe the shiny stuff away.
The surface of the shaft is smooth, it has no texture, not bumps or ridges.
The butterfly itself has refined features, nose and eyes. All the texture it has is the ribbed little tail, though it probably makes no difference when in use. I could not feel any.
It is safe to use water based or silicone based lubes with it.
The sleeve has no chemical odor, you can barely feel any smell even when you hold it right under your nose. It has no taste either.
Because of the softness of the material it is very easy to hurt it and leave a mark. If you press your nail into it a little bit harder (even without breaking the surface) it will leave its imprint.



It collects dust, hairs and lint like crazy.

The bullet can be used separately from the sleeve. It is made of white plastic with the cap painted silver. It is hard, ridged, non-flexible and has no give to it. The material safety of the bullet is 8 out of 10. It is very smooth, has no texture no drag even without a lube. It is not porous and the packaging claims it to be waterproof.

The toy is made of two main parts, the sleeve and the bullet, which can be removed.



The sleeve is shaped like a butterfly with a shaft protruding from its stomach. The butterfly looks cute, more cartoon-like than realistic, it has little bumps for yes, the wings are much thinner than the rest of the toy, making them more translucent and more wing-like. It also makes them more floppy and flexible. The face (or nose) is pointy and it is designed to deliver clitoral stimulation. The ‘tail’ is a bit bee-like, and it is supposed to reach the perineum and conduct vibrations there. Whether these too work or not depends on your actual anatomy.

The shaft is unreasonably sized compared to it. However that takes away nothing from the functionality; the ‘oversized’ penis makes it look cute and funny at the same time.


The shaft is thin, not too long, the end curves upwards a little bit for added g-spot stimulation. It is smooth and just barely phallic. The bullet does not reach the curve part when inserted, meaning it is much softer, squishier, has a lot more give to it. It cannot be pressed up against the g-spot very hard.

It is non-phallic, non threatening, inexpensive, a good starter toy for beginners.

The bullet is made of white ABS plastic, the cap has a silver coating on it. The shape is tapered, gradually becoming thinner towards the rounded point. Between the silver plated and white parts there is a thin ring of rubber-like material, most likely to insure the bullet would be waterproof. The cap is somewhat wider than the bullet itself, so there is a small ‘step’ leveling the two parts.

The bullet operates with 1 AAA battery (not included.) You have to pull the bullet out of the sleeve to be able to place the battery in, because the cap part of the bullet extends below the sleeve. Also it sticks to the sleeves material and unless you tug it out you won’t be able to twist it off.
To place the battery in you just need to twist the cap off. You might want to test if it works before sliding the bullet back to the sleeve as it is not very easy to get it out.

The bullet vibrator in it operates with one press button, and it has 3 different vibrations speeds. Press once to turn it on. As long as you keep the button pressed, there will be no vibrations at all. The higher speed will only start when you let the button up. Press it two times for medium speed. Press again for high speed. Press a 4th time to turn it off. The button needs a very deliberate press to change speed, it will not happen by accident. It is located at a comfortable place, so you can change the settings during use easily. But if you change your mind and want to go back to a slower speed you need to circle back through all 3 speeds. On the site you can read that it can produce escalating vibrations, but it is not true, it only has 3 simple speeds, no patterns.
None of the vibrations are very strong, the higher settings are somewhat buzzy. The bullet is loud, especially inside the sleeve. Outside its mere 2 bees.

To clean your toy you should use antibacterial soaps or toy wipes, as the sleeve is made of TPR, a slightly porous material. Do not use bleach or boiling, it is not compatible with the material. If you still wish to share it, use a condom.
Most likely you will need to wash the sleeve before use too, as it collects dust, lint and hair.
You can use water based or silicone based lubricants with it.
For operation it needs 1 AAA battery. You might want to take the battery out and store it separately or it will run out in no time. Inside the bullet you will find a small tube of see-through plastic, do not remove it.
You can store it in the box it arrived in. The box is not discreet, you want to hide it somewhere. You could opt to store it in a nylon bag or a cloth sac. The nylon bag I do not recommend, the TPR seems to be sticking to it really hard, I hard trouble trying to get it out of the packaging too. The cloth sac has the drawback that the sleeve ill collect a lot of lint.

Butterfly dreams arrived in a paper box, wrapped in a nylon bag. The TPR stuck to the nylon it wasn’t very easy to get it out.



The Box is simple but nice. It has the picture of the product on it, shown from all angles. It states the battery requirement. On the bottom you can find specific information about the materials used and the producer, on the back you can find a small material description in several languages. Its not overly informative, but the most important things are there.
There is no user guide included, but the use of the toy is pretty obvious.






The boy is suitable for storage, however the paper isn’t very durable. Do not put it under heavy (or a lot of) toys. The box is tasteful with a nice foliage pattern, but as it has the pictures of the product on it it is neither suitable as a gift box nor is it discreet.

If you like the sape of the sleeve and it fits you anatomy you could try to add a different bullet with a stronger kick.

I found this toy to be nice addition to my toy box, but not something I will use often. I personally like smaller diameter in toys, so that was a plus for me, but the curve at the end of the shaft was not hard enough to deliver g-spot stimulation, nor was the bullet strong enough to be felt inside. The tail of the butterfly did reach my perineum and that felt nice, but it failed to deliver for my clit. Also I found the nose to be too pointy and pressing too hard into me. I found the vibrations to be just slightly on the weak and buzzy side but it wasn’t bad.
Considering the price, it is not a bad toy. But it is not a great one either. It worked halfway good halfway not so good, so I decided to rate it 3 stars.
