No. 56 On My List of Favorite Toys

With the power of Doc Johnson behind it, Lucid Curves No. 56 is surprisingly tame. The near $20 price point makes it immune to critical review, though the brand's reputation for more scientifically founded products- makes this a miss. Pick this up for a gift, waterproof toy, or couples play. Just don't expect to make it the star in your lineup, this puppy's bark is much louder than its bite and execution flaws (dial control/rigid frame) are less alluring than the name suggests.

extremely useful review

Lucid Curves No.56, by Doc Johnson, is a good wireless and waterproof beginners vibe. With intended G-Spot or clitoral stimulation, this toy is primarily a clitoral vibe as the average user will not welcome its rigid plastic girth for insertion. Unfortunately, as most beginners may require, this toy is not as quiet as the packages 'Virtually Silent' tag indicates. While the contoured footprint is sleek and unsuspecting for storage (save the Doc Johnson logo), this cute toy is audibly present on every speed. If your needs include an easy to maintain, fun to experiment with, moderate power vibe that is waterproof, this is the vibe for you! Add in a partner for fun with the 'S' shaped design and let them worry about the controls and they tease from every angle.

Material / Texture

This is not a gentle vibe, in terms of material. Doc Johnson's Lucid Curves No. 56 is curvy in shape only. The hard plastic exterior is great for cleaning, and glides smooth- but can prove too stiff for navigation when used as a G-Spot vibe. In general, the girth is quite filling, and the plastic dulls the vibe's strength, even when targeted directly to the clitoris.

Design / Shape / Size

I love the contoured shape of Lucid Curves No. 56, as it's what initially attracted me to it; however, the stiff plastic material detours from the experience of such fluidity. Available in 2 color options, Rose and Blue, the Rose is almost salmon in tone and unsuspecting. I think this aspect, along with the size, and amorphous shape makes it a discreet toy in general.

What certainly is not discreet is this vibe's advertised 'Virtually Silent' motor, which is louder than any of my treasure trove toys, including those with more power! I think, once again, the exterior shell's material was a poor choice for sound reduction. There is no sound insulation, and the thick plastic only serves to dull the vibes.

Wireless, Lucid Curves No. 56 unscrews at the center, where a waterproof seal sits beneath the threading. I've used this vibe entirely underwater, and in contact with water (shower) with no issues. The seal is fairly secure, though after multiple uses I have noticed it can unscrew a little with avid play. The biggest issue here is the collection of grime, sweat, bacteria, where the two pieces meet. Always be sure to unscrew the vibe and clean out this crevice when cleaning!

The fact Doc Johnson chose to power this vibe with N batteries is a pro for discretion and weight, but a con for availability. The toy's life in general proved to be average, at best, and I do not keep a surplus of N batteries on hand!

Functions / Performance / Controls

This waterproof vibe conveniently operates via a multi-speed dial, though not conveniently, is easy to bump in the heat of things. As Lucid Curves No. 56 proved to lack the power I, personally, require, I needed more time with the toy to reach climax. In fact, I found this vibe worked best exposing my clitoris directly through the manipulation of my labia. With the control dial facing the opposite direction of the focused vibes, it ends up against the palm. When things get slippery, the knob becomes bumped (either higher or lower, and sometimes off entirely). This was a bit frustrating when I would finally near orgasm and loose my groove!

As a G-Spot vibe, Lucid Curves No. 56 is a bit girthy for beginners, and even myself, merely for it's rigidity. I experienced a pleasantly full feeling, though was limited to no movement during insertion. Thankfully the plastic exterior is friendly to lube, because this stiff frame required it. I can't call it ineffective as a G-Spot vibe, but it's certainly not going to be everyone's cup of tea. I'll personally be adding it to my rotation as a warm up and couples vibe. I'd rather let him deal with the speed and angles, while I enjoy the fluid curves.

My biggest complaint about the Lucid Curves No. 56? It's noise. How, by any standard, this toy could be labeled as 'Virtually Silent' is beyond me. Thankfully I'm married, and my husband knows I like to play, or, even on the lowest level, this could get embarrassing!

Care and Maintenance

General care for Lucid Curves No. 56 is easy, however, it's important to pay extra special attention to the crevice where the two parts of the vibe meet. Sweat, grime, and bacteria like to build up here, even with one use. Simply unscrew the toy and clean the interior edges of each side. Surprisingly, the dial pad is easier to keep clean. The plastic material means it stays cleaner than other silicone counterparts, but I always prefer to keep my toys in toy pouches or chests for optimal sanitation.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

This Doc Johnson toy comes packaged in a clear container, with full visibility. Thankfully, it's hard to tell what it is from first glance, so it wouldn't be too mortifying if a roomie came across it. The lime and lavender colors on the package contrast with the salmon (Rose) hues of the vibe for a funky presentation. There are no instructions, save battery installation.
    • Good for storage
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

In general, I think Lucid Curves No. 56 is the lesser of its series, but hails an unnecessary bad wrap. Doc Johnson is a quality brand, with chic and stylish toys, and the price point is affordable. This would make a fun toy for 'warming up' or a beginner's first vibe. A lot of seasoned 'pros' in the vibe arena will likely be disappointed but that certainly shouldn't deter anyone looking for a reasonably priced, new, and cute vibe!

I found the 'waterproof' feature was true, and effective with the plus of it being wireless- though the stiff exterior makes it most suitable for water friendly lubes. Water alone will make this very harsh.
