Not so rockin'

There are simply better vibrators out there than the Rockin' Robin, and if you're going to spend the money, you'd might as well get a decent amount of bang for your precious buck. It may mean buying more than one toy, to suit the needs of your clitoris and your g-spot, but what good is an all-in-one vibe if it doesn't really do anything that well? Not very good. However, if you want to try a rabbit vibrator, and you want to spend less than 70-80 dollars, this vibrator is not a terrible choice.

Use

The Rockin' Robin was the first sex toy I ever purchased for myself, and prior to its purchase, I really didn't even have much experience masturbating. I was very excited, but also unsure of what to expect. A friend of mine, whom I had sex with the night before using a rabbit vibrator, insisted that I purchase one of my own. She seemed to enjoy it quite a lot, and not really grasping that our bodies or desires might be totally different, I assumed that I would, too.

In theory, I can understand why this product would be excellent - it has a dual action vibrator, with four variations of vibration and pulsation (low vibration, high vibration, rhythm pulse, and steady pulse), as well as six rotation speeds for seven rows of metal beads. You can easily stimulate your clitoris and your g-spot. It sounds great. Unfortunately, this toy couldn't provide any stimulation for me, without also causing irritation and a lot of ruckus. It reminds me of when you pay quite a bit of money to go to a carnival, that has a lot of flash and color, only to discover that the rides are not very thrilling and food is far too greasy to consume.

Material / Texture

This toy is made predominantly of red and clear jelly, with its base made of hard red plastic. Inside the insertable portion of this toy, there are seven rows of metal beads, clearly visible through the clear jelly material. It's rather impressive looking.

Small ridges in the jelly to mimic skin and the head of a penis add to its attractiveness, although I can't really say that it altered the feeling of the toy itself when in use. The toy still felt smooth and soft. If the ridges affect anything other than the visual aesthetic of the toy, they make cleaning up take a little longer.

The rubbery odor common to jelly products was not strongly present with this toy, even when brand spanking new. Much appreciated. New toy smells are expected, but an overwhelming smell that reminds me of being inside a factory is not a turn-on.

Design / Shape / Size

Part of what turned me off to this toy so vehemently, was its design. I vividly remember lamenting over the bird beak poking my clitoris, and leading to painful irritation, even with lubricant applied. Also, I didn't really enjoy the large width of the toy. Some women think bigger is better, but I am not one of them. This toy was larger than most of the average-sized men I had been with and, even with lubricant, I became sore and could not masturbate as long or as frequently as I had wanted.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The built in control panel for the Rockin' Robin was very easy to understand and use. You can use one of the vibration or pulsation settings, without any rotations, if you desire. That's an added bonus, since sometimes the rotations are simply too much or too loud to deal with.

I also really liked that it takes AA batteries, because they are the batteries I am most likely to have around the apartment. It happened once that in the middle of masturbating with this vibe the batteries died. I had to find more, and thankfully there were some AA batteries in a drawer nearby; which was very convenient.

A major downside to this toy is its noisiness. I was continually nervous about my roommates overhearing despite covering myself with a blanket, keeping the door closed, and having the radio on. They may or may not have heard anything, but the perpetual wariness of being heard takes the whole experience down a notch.

Care and Maintenance

The insertable portion of this toy is jelly, which is definitely not one of my preferred materials for toys; because they cannot be sterilized. You can only use a toy cleaner, or mild soap and water for cleaning. If you intend to share this toy, or use it for anal play, a condom should absolutely be used.
