Stings Like a Bee

The perfect toy for the masochistic resident of the lost city of Atlantis -- that is, assuming Atlantis really did sink, instead of flying off into outer space, because this one is only useful underwater, and it packs a sting.

Pros
Cute. Nice color.
Cons
Painful, loud, porous, and cheaply made, with buzzy vibrations.

Use

The rabbit dancer is a cheap clitoral vibrator that's only remotely useful underwater. This is definitely a toy for the tub, and not the bedroom. In the interest of full disclosure, I dislike combining bathtime and playtime, so your mileage may vary.

Material / Texture

The pocket rocket portion of this toy is made of plastic. It lacks the metal contact points that I enjoyed on the real Pocket Rocket from Doc Johnson. As for the rabbit sleeve, it's made of jelly and it smells like it.

Jelly toys contain phthalates, which are a safety concern for many. The unpleasant odor is a sign that the toy is offgassing chemicals. (All odors, in all situations, are caused by chemicals. Odors in and of themselves are not indicative of danger, but they do indicate that chemicals are present in the air you are breathing.)

The other concern with jelly is that it is a porous material, so it can hang onto bacteria, and it should never be shared between orifices or between partners without a condom or toy cover. Of course, if you put a cover over a bath toy, you end up with water inside the condom, and the bunny ears flop around inside of the condom, and it's just generally annoying. So a better course of action would be to not share this toy. But that's just my opinion.

Design / Shape / Size

There's really not much to say about the shape or size, since this is an external toy, but I found it harder than necessary to wrestle the rabbit sleeve onto the imitation pocket rocket, and although the toy is waterproof, water did get inside of the rabbit portion, which was inconvenient, since I then had to get it to dry before I could put it away, and it was not possible to turn it inside out.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Rabbit Dancer is a one speed external vibrator with extremely buzzy vibrations. When the imitation pocket rocket is used separately, outside of the water, it's merely annoying. When the rabbit sleeve is added, outside of the water, it's quite painful. At least now I know whether I like pain with my pleasure -- having my lady parts whipped by sharp little ears is not fun. It stung!

The stinging dissipated underwater, reducing the pain factor, but I still didn't find it particularly pleasurable. The vibrations weren't at all deep enough for my tastes, or particularly strong. However, I'm not a fan of this kind of play, so your mileage may vary. I also found it louder than I would have liked -- it seemed to really echo in the bathroom.

Care and Maintenance

This toy cannot be sanitized for sharing, and should be scrubbed before and after any use, since jelly is porous and can harbor bacteria. It should be stored without the battery, and since it can melt or damage other toys if they're loose together, a plastic sandwich bag is probably a good idea.
    • Easy to store
    • Hard to clean

Packaging

The packaging was a bit of a hassle to recycle, since it's a hard plastic bubble container that had to be hacked up into tiny pieces with a boxcutter in order to hide it with other trash.

Personal comments

I fear my seething hatred for this toy is showing, but it's noisy, painful, and made of cheap materials. I acquired it against my will, when an amazon seller shipped it to me instead of the Vibratex Rosebud that I ordered. I lost my money, but I (eventually) decided that I might as well review the toy. I really did try to give it a fair shake, but I do not like jelly (although this is not insertable) and I do not like underwater play, so the toy had an uphill battle. I still didn't expect it to be painful, though. Way to undershoot my ridiculously low expectations, toy!

For the rare occasions when I indulge in the bath, I'll stick with the Screaming Octopus, a much better -- and cheaper -- toy.
Follow-up commentary
I tried to give this toy one last chance, and took the pocket rocket, sans the ears-of-doom jelly rabbit, into the shower. Alas, it broke on me, and stopped working after a minute or two. I dried it out as best I could, but I just checked on it, and although now definitely dry, it still doesn't work.

Excellent review. Too bad it was painful...might be able to get past the other stuff for a bit otherwise.

Your "seething hatred" of this toy cracked me up, but I am sorry you were forced into acquiring it. Great job.

Excellent review! Wow, Amazon really messed up. This is a far cry from the Vibratex Rosebud. I would've demanded a refund due to not receiving the correct toy! But I do admire your game efforts in conducting "scientific research"!

@ Selective Sensualist -- it was an amazon third party seller, and I filed a complaint with Amazon, but got denied because they don't accept returns on "products of this nature" and they could not be convinced that I wasn't just unhappy with a product I ordered, but was substituted an inferior item. The seller's behavior made it very clear that it wasn't a mistake, but a deliberate substitution, and too bad for me, while Amazon failed to understand even a very carefully worded and documented complaint. It was a very frustrating experience.

Interesting, I don't have this vibe...but I do have this bunny and it is one of my favorite things! Have you tried putting it on a vibe with a weaker motor?
  • Contributor: ToyGeek
@ Misfit Momma -- I would, except I have some silicone composite sleeves that are softer, and which fit my favorite vibe, so I have very little motivation to make this one useful. Thanks for the suggestion, though, it's a good one!
