Sweet dreams aren't made with these

Although a great idea for a discreet vibe, Mini G didn’t live up to its potential. Toy parts didn’t meet up with their intended body parts and problems with the battery were downright frustrating. At the end of the day I just can’t see recommending anybody buy a toy that won’t serve a purpose other than teasing a nipple or two when it's intended for so much more. The Mini G is currently not dead but its battery is and I won’t be buying replacements, at least not for this toy alone.

Use

Pipedreams Le Reve Mini G is intended for simultaneous Gspot and clitoral stimulation. This didn’t go quite as intended in my case but I’ll cover that a little later in the review. There is no flared base on this vibe but the clitoral arm and retrieval ring make losing this toy during anal play a bit unlikely. Its packaging claims Mini G to be “perfect for p-spot stimulation” but since I seem to be missing one of those we’ll just have to take their word on it.

Mini G’s compact size, multi-speeds and relatively quiet motor make for a toy that can be used in a number of situations though it’s probably not ideal for roommate living. Housemates shouldn’t be a problem as long as there’s a door between you and them. I would however avoid busting this sucker out in a dorm situation unless you don’t mind your roommate knowing what you’re up to.

This vibe is waterproof so taking it with you into the shower, bath or pool shouldn’t be a problem. You could even take it into the hot tub if the moment was right.

Although useable at any experience level I don’t recommend it for those wanting a toy to find their gspot due to the short neck and narrow tip. Something like the Lia mini G would probably be a better choice. Mini G is a bit lacking in the power department so I’d recommend those who like a good bit of vroom in their vibe look elsewhere.

I found the shape of the handle perfectly shaped for masturbation but it could be used in couple and group situations as well.

Material / Texture

Although it’s listed as plastic only, the Mini G is actually made of both plastic and TPR. The clitoral arm, retrieval ring and control panel are made of a food grade polished plastic that is hypoallergenic as well as latex and phthalates free.

The insertable g-spot stimulator and possibly the control button are made of TPR, a polymer blend that is nontoxic, phthalate free and hypoallergenic. Be careful though, TPR is a bit of a broad term and those with latex allergies may want to be careful when handling these toys. Many people have reported having reactions to some TPR products and not others. With material ratings of 8 and 6 (in the order they were mentioned) the Mini G sits somewhere in the medium safety range.

When I saw the stock photo I imagined an entirely plastic toy that felt hollow and possibly a bit cheap so I was surprised at the sturdiness of the toy when I held it in my hand. It’s not that the Mini G is heavy, it's just more solid than I was expecting.

The plastic feels very smooth against the skin but the TPR has so much drag that it could cause tearing without extra lubrication, I certainly wouldn’t recommend it. As for taste and smell, I didn't notice much of either from the toy as a whole which is always nice. There’s nothing quite like breaking out your new vibe and having your sinuses assaulted by the smell of rubber.

Design / Shape / Size

I really wanted to like this toy as a gspot vibe but no matter how I tried to adjust it and myself things just weren’t working. The space between the clitoral nub (I am referring to it as a nub because there isn’t enough length to it for me to consider it an arm, it’s just under 1” in length) is too small to give either area a shot at decent contact. I measured the gap between the two at 2 ¼”.

The gspot arm is roughly the size of my finger and has a fairly natural curve to it which is part of the reason I was so excited for this toy. Unfortunately aside from the overall shape, there is nothing finger like about the toy. No part of the Mini G is flexible with the exception of the very top ½” of the toy the fingers tip if you will. Movement is limited to whatever thrusting or rotation you do with your own hand.

My measurements matched up pretty well with the ones listed on the description.

Overall Length: 4 ¾”
Insert able Length: 2 ½”
Circumference at base of right above silver band (a): 3 ½”
Circumference at tip of toy (b): 2 ¾”
Weight: 2.2 oz with battery, 1.9 without

I found Mini G to be rather ergonomic and felt very natural in my hand. It even made a perfect pretend microphone while I was planning this review and power testing. For the record I only power tested due to the battery and some performance issues but still, the toy was nice to hold regardless of the situation. It is definitely light enough to hold for prolonged periods of time, which may be needed with the weaker vibrations offered by Mini G.

This vibe is listed in the discreet category and I think that’s a fair description. It’s small, not shaped like a penis and would be easy enough to tuck into almost anything. Sock, purse, makeup bag perhaps? If a bag check were needed you may even be able to pass if off as a massager for sore muscles if you can keep a straight face in the process.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Mini G was just what I was looking for in a small dual stimulation vibrator, in theory. Unfortunately for me it didn’t live up to expectations. Normally when I get a multi-speed I am normally hoping for a few different speeds (vibration strengths) and maybe a couple of functions on top of it (rhythm, rollercoaster, etc). If a vibrator is going to offer only a couple of vibrations strength settings I hope that those will at least feel a bit different. That being said Mini G has 3 different strength settings that ranged from mere buzzing at its lowest to decent cell phone vibrations at its highest with no major difference between the three. At its highest intensity I couldn’t give it more than a 2 on the Vroom scale. I personally need some power on my clit in particular so this toy was more of a tease when used vaginally.

As a side note, I did find this vibe felt great when my boyfriend used it to tease my nipple during foreplay. The tip of the toy is so close to the motor and the vibrations were not strong enough to get itchy.

The control panel consists of a white push button and is located on the front of the clitoral nub. It was very easy to locate and press in every position my partner and I put the toy in. Cycling through the intensities is very easy, all you have to do is:

Press the white button once: Turns on (low, maybe ½ a vroom, 1 bee)
Press button again: Next level (medium, I’ll give it 1 whole vroom, 2 bee’s by this point)
Press button again: Last level (high, 2 vroom, 2 bee)
Press button again: Turns off

From what I can tell the vibrations come from a motor that is located about 2 ½” from the tip of the toy, right behind where the battery would sit. If you open the Mini G and take the battery out you can even shake the finger shaped part and hear the motor moving. The vibrations transmit decently to all parts of the toy, even the clitoral nub thanks, in part, to the plastic it’s made of. Just keep in mind no matter how awesome a material is at transmitting vibrations, they will always be weaker than the source and if the source doesn’t have terribly strong vibrations, it can really leave a toy feeling like it’s lacking something.

I have read other reviews of this toy that rate it as loud but I didn’t find that to be the case all the time. It seemed like sometimes it would be real loud and rattly, but then if I opened the toy took out the battery and put it all back together, it would run quietly. When testing for waterproofing I submerged it in a large bowl of water, turned it on full blast and put it down on my floor. While sitting on my bed right next to the bowl I couldn’t hear a thing and had to actually check the water for ripples to make sure the toy was running. It is a little louder when outside of water but not extraordinarily so.

I’ll cover the battery performance in the experience part of the review since I am hoping that my experience is not typical of this toy. But just to touch on it here Mini G doesn’t use a standard sized battery so you can’t just grab your tv remote for a quick switch mid play. Included with your new toy is a 1.5v battery size N or an N 1.5v, depending on how you prefer to say it. I found these at both my local Radio Shack or Walmart and they don’t cost any more than a standard AA or AAA battery, but the fact that you probably don’t have extras just laying around makes it a little inconvenient. My suggestion is if you are seriously considering purchasing this toy to buy the N 1.5v from eden. You can find them here. It’ll save you gas and get you closer to your free shipping limit; a win/win in my eyes.

Care and Maintenance

Since there isn’t much to go on as to the kind of TPR that is used in this toy (only listed material on site is plastic) I am going to go off of the packaging’s description of a “body-safe TPR that is non-porous” and say that antibacterial toy wipes and washes would be fine. Warm water and antibacterial soap would work also but no boiling. Also, any lube is safe with this toy.

I’d recommend storing this in a pouch or plastic bag of some kind to keep it clean, since lint and pet hair can both get stuck on the tip of it. This will also prevent cross contamination or interactions between it and other toys although the material in this vibe plays well with others. You won’t find it in a puddle or in another toy if you need to toss it away in a hurry.

The packaging that the toy comes in is another option but it is much bulkier then the toy itself and will take up much more room.

Packaging

Mini G comes in a black sleeve that opens to reveal a plastic clamshell that holds the toy and its battery. The sleeve and the shell inside are both recyclable if you don’t want to keep them for storage. There were no real instructions for the toy but there is a description on the back that gives some details on use, material and features.

On the front is a picture of the toy along with the word Le Reve which means the dream in French. The only thing that gives away the nature of the item could be the Mini G and Pipedream logo in white the bottom left and right corners of the front. The white stands out well against the black background so these words are very noticeable.

On the bottom of the packaging is the Pipedream logo and some company information, battery information and a sold as novelty only warning. Right above that is another warning that is a little harder to see. Since they felt need to put a caution notice I will quote it for you.

“Caution: This vibrator is not intended for therapeutic purposes and is recommended for external use only. Prolonged and frequent use is not advised or recommended as these items are sold for novelty purposes only. This vibrator should be used with discretion.”

These types of warning are very common in jelly toys but occasionally you see them on other types of packaging.

Personal comments

There were no instructions with this toy but they would be the same as with many other toys. Once you or your partner is ready to use this toy make sure the toy and you are both well lubricated and insert. Turn on and have fun! No muss, no fuss and one simple button.

Experience

No matter what I tried, this toy just wouldn't work for me, literally. Within minutes of turning it on it started to seem like it was going to short out. After having this happen a few times and realizing that things were not going to match up no matter how I tried to position the toy and myself, I gave up and went on to other options. It was at this point that I decided to do a performance test. Since the batteries are not a standard size, performance is key and randomly turning off a few minutes into use is never a good sign. I turned the toy on and set it in a bowl of water first, and then set it on my bed for a while to see how long the battery lasted. The final verdict: just over an hour combined while on the highest setting. During that hour I had to open the toy 5 times due to it shutting off randomly. The only way to get it to turn back on would be to open it, take out the battery, replace the battery and then put it back together and hope for the best. Even that was not a guarantee. I did it again with another battery and had similar results.
