The Bad Impulse

I bought this vibrator on sale for seven bucks, and well, I guess you get what you pay for. It's very cheaply made, and comes with bumps and scratches. The length is a bit awkward for a clit vibe, and a little too short for penetration. The vibrations were strong enough for me, but anyone that isn't a beginner should look elsewhere. Overall, I would not recommend this toy to anyone.

Use

The New Impulse is most effectively used as a clit vibe, though it can be used vaginally, if you don't mind it's shortcomings. It's probably too small and thin for most, and you have to be mindful of the gap between the shaft and the battery compartment that can irritate the sensitive skin. This vibe can also be used on the nipples, or any other part of the body. However, since the New Impulse does not have a flared base, it should not be used anally, and therefore can't be used for prostate stimulation.

This toy will work for beginners that are looking for a cheap new addition to their masturbation routine, or to introduce a non-intimidating looking sex toy into their partnered play. Although, since this little guy will occasionally stop working in the heat of the moment and requires some fiddling with to get it working again, I recommend it mostly for masturbation.

Material / Texture

This vibe is made out of plastic, so it's a fairly body safe material. It doesn't give off any kind of odor or have any kind of taste, but can hold onto smells for a little while. The New Impulse is very rigid, so if you like a more flexible or soft toy, I'd recommend you look elsewhere.

There is absolutely no texture to this toy, and feels very smooth. Because of this, it can be hard to keep a really good grip on it when it's wet.

Design / Shape / Size

The design and shape of the New Impulse is that of a traditional vibrator: sleek, fairly simple, straight, and has a tapered tip. It has a metallic look to it, the only part not having a chrome finish is the bottom of the cap, where the button that controls the vibration is.

It's 5.5 inches long, with 4.5 of those inches being insertable, and only an inch in diameter. This toy will probably leave most unsatisfied when being used for penetration, except for those who have never penetrated themselves before. And even then, the New Impulse would get old very fast. However, because of the small size, it is easy to store.

This toy is very cheaply made, and came with a number of bumps and scratches on it. There is even what appears to be glue on the cap for the battery compartment.

To compare the size of this vibe to other common items, I took this lovey picture for you:

Functions / Performance / Controls

This toy is fairly simple to use. You press the button down the bottom to turn it on, change the setting, and turn it off. There are seven settings: low vibration, medium vibration, high vibration, pulsating on what feels like a a medium vibration, pulsating pattern of five where the last pulse is a higher vibration than the first four, oscillating from low to high and back down again, and finally a mixture of the oscillating and pulsating patterns, where there are two pulses, starting with low vibration, a weird pause, and two higher vibrating pulses, all the way to the highest setting, and back down again. And after you've cycled through all the settings, you press the button once more to turn it off.

Or, that's what it should do. I am hard pressed to get it to work properly at all now, and the last setting has stopped working altogether (no love lost there since it was really only good for a bit of teasing). When I first got it, it worked like it should, but now it seems my little friend has developed some performance issues. It either won't start, or will stop while I'm using it, although if I leave it on one of the first three settings and don't change it (or don't change it very quickly) it will keep working. But when it stops working, I have to open up the battery compartment and jiggle things around until it starts working again. This can sometimes take a few minutes, which is kind of a huge buzz kill.

Speaking of buzzing, the New Impulse is pretty loud. I made a short video to showcase how loud it is, so you can hear it for yourself. But, just to give you a better idea: I put this vibrator on my bed, under a quilt, closed my door, and went down the hallway, and I could still hear it. And that was with the air conditioner and television on downstairs.

The vibrations seem to be the strongest at the sides just before the tip where it starts to taper, and I assume that's where the motor is located. This makes it a little awkward to use, because you can't use the tip for really pinpointed vibration, and you have to press the side of it up against your clit. And even then, the vibration is still a little too weak to really blow the minds of anybody who's had experience with vibrators before. However, since I have not, this toy is just fine for me, and I'd personally rate it at three vrooms.

Oh, and did I mention the SUPER DUPER FUN addition of the misaligned shaft that can scratch and irritate you if you're not careful about it when using this toy for penetration?

the evil ridge of PAIN

The picture's a bit blurry, but you can still see the edge that sticks out. It might not seem like much, but just the other day I scratched my vulva with it because I wasn't being careful, and it actually resulted in some minor cuts.

Care and Maintenance

The New Impulse is made out of plastic, and is very easy to clean and store. The material does not require any kind of special instructions or products or procedures for cleaning, so good old soap and water should work just fine. Although, be sure to clean very well around the ridge between the battery compartment and the main part of the toy, as a lot of stuff gets trapped in there.

You can store this toy anywhere you like, as it does not pick up dust and dirt like silicone does, nor does it stand the chance of breaking or getting chipped if dropped or knocked around like glass does.

Packaging

The packaging this vibrator comes in is made of plastic, and came looking a bit beat up. It was slightly bent, and had lots of scratches on it, just like the toy itself did. The package had a picture of a half naked woman on both sides, so it was not very discreet either. It was too bulky to use for storage, so I just recycled it.

Experience

I've had this toy for about a month, and it no longer works properly, as I suspected when I first saw how cheaply made it was. I'll occasionally break it out if I really want to use two vibrators at once (I bought a different vibe shortly after this one arrived), but I'll usually just use my new one.
Follow-up commentary
I stopped having trouble with it stopping working, randomly it seems, now that I've replaced the battery, but I still don't use it. I cannot forgive this little guy for cutting me, and now that I have more toys to use, this one has been gathering dust.

Great first review. If you got this item from Eden an it is still in the 60 day window I would try exchanging it.
