Quest For the Elusive G
The Ella is a lovely dual sided dildo from Lelo. She’s easy to hold, comfortable to use, and sterilizable. She’s a good choice whether you’re looking for a g-spot dildo, or just a well-crafted silicone dildo to add to your toy collection.Published: April 28, 2009
Pros:
Made of silicone, ergonomic, double ended.
Cons:
None.
In my quest for a g-spot orgasm, I’ve been seeking out dildos and vibrators that purport to help women achieve this. I selected the Ella from Lelo to try and discover my so-far elusive spot.
Ella is a lovely dildo, available in two colors – black and white. I chose the black one, and it arrived in a nice black box. Inside the box, under a plastic protection piece, she lay. She looked lovely nestled there, and when I removed her from the box I found underneath a white bag to hold her and a user manual. Ella also comes with a 1 year warranty, which is unusual but welcome.
The first thing I noticed when I held her in my hand was that she was very lightweight, weighing in at just under 4 ounces.. Ella is also soft to the touch and flexible. She had two ends for dual function. The one end is sculpted and wider for g-spot stimulation, and the other side is narrower with a sort of knob on the end for more traditional pleasuring. Ella measures about 7” from end to end, with an insertable length of about 5” regardless of which end you use. She’s about 1 1/4" at her widest point, so probably not large enough for size queens, but I found her thick enough to satisfy me.
Ella is made of 100% silicone, so she’s phthalate-free. She is also non-porous and repels bacteria and dirt. Ella can be sterilized by washing in the dishwasher (top rack), or boiled or bleached with a 10% solution. She can also be cleaned with warm water and soap (don’t use alcohol to clean her!) Water-based lubricant should be used.
So, did Ella help me find my g-spot? Maybe, but not so I came. I tried with both ends, and they felt good (I could definitely feel the pressure in what I think was the right place), but I wasn’t able to cum without using one of my trusty bullet clitoral vibrators. Nevertheless, Ella was a pleasure to use, and I plan to get more acquainted with her over the next few weeks. Maybe my g-spot is shy, and it’ll make itself known once it’s more familiar with Ella.

Follow-up commentary

I actually like Ella more now that I've had her for a while. My g-spot is not so elusive now (although squirting is, darnit!) thanks to help from my husband, and now I know how to use Ella more effectively. I still use her a lot with a bullet, or an anal toy, but she makes me feel good.
Ella has held up to frequent use, and many trips through the dishwasher with her other silicone friends. She still looks as good as she did when I got her.

ella vs. others

I want to get ella as my first she doesn't seem as menacing as the others made of glass or metal but are those materials better sensation wise?
-
It comes down to personal preference, really. You're not going to know if glass or metal feels better to you until you try.
A couple things to keep in mind, though: glass and metal have absolutely no give, so they tend to feel bigger than silicone toys of the same size. They're also rather heavy in most cases, and so you need to be a bit more careful when you use them. Being too rough can result in internal bruising. They're very slick and smooth, though, unlike silicone which typically has some drag to it.
The Ella is pretty rigid for a silicone toy, but it's very light and easy to use. It's great if you're new to dildos. :) -

How Does Lelo Ella compare to Gigi?
-
I know that Ella doesn't vibrate, but are there many other differences? I am wondering whether the Ella might be a better shape or size for g-spot stimulation

Would the Ella work well for a beginner?
-
I'm thinking of getting my bestfriend this for Christmas but she is new to toys. Would this be a good toy to give a newbie? I have not tried it myself so I'm not sure how easy it is to master.
-
I have the similarly shaped Gigi and found nothing but frustration when trying to thrust with it.
-
i think it would be a good option for a beginner.

I need help the Ella curve is doing me in.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have read every review and some twice. I can not figure this girl out. I want to write a review but, how can I write a review on something I do not get. Any ideas would be wonderful. Please help me enjoy this beautiful toy.
-
What do you not get about it? Not every toy works for every woman. Does it hurt to use? Maybe your vagina is too small for it yet or maybe you just need some lube. Do you not feel anything? Again, nothing is for everyone. Try sqeezing the toy by doing kegels when you use it. Some women say that makes things feel better. Or maybe try tilting it up towards your g-spot. That works for me with other toys.
I haven't used it yet. Just recently purchased a white Ella. And I can't wait! We've got the same name! :D -
If you don't get it you can still write your review from that perspective. I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one who had that experience with it. I have the Ella and she's nice but she's not fireworks for me and that's ok. We all have different experiences with toys and that is what makes these reviews so valuable.

Dildo vs. Vibrator
-
I am having a hard time getting used to the idea of a dildo vs. a vibrator! As far as using one goes, how does one decide which is better for oneself? Just wondering and thanks!

Just wondering and thanks! What I mean by this I think is, is it easier with one than the other, or maybe does it require a different mind set or even is one better with partner play vs. solo? I don't know, LOL, just curious.

When we started with toys it was all about clit vibes for 'effective' reliable orgasms. But as we got into g-spot and a-spot stimulation, dildos have advantages over vibes because pressure is more important than vibes.
Now we almost always have some of both going on. A dildo for internal and a clit vibe for external - although she occasionally likes two vibes.
The only truism I've found is that what she wants/needs is different almost every time. I use to think 'this worked last time - so lets do it again' - but now I think 'we did that last time - what can I do to mix things up'.
That's why we have dozens of toys - both vibes and dildos.

Ella for beginners
-
Hey! I was just wondering if Ella would be something an absolute beginner could use, someone who's never gone looking for her g-spot before. She seems awfully tempting, but I wonder if I it's too advanced a toy for me?

Ella was the first one that worked for me. Several people have had their first successes with Ella.

Ella and Gigi

I've had both the Ella and the Gigi sitting in my shopping cart for days now. I was wondering.. should I get them both, or should I maybe just get one to try, then maybe later on get the other if I want?
They both seem so worth it, it's hard to just pick one! -

I have had the GiGi for a couple of months and rarely use it, mainly because the control thing is located in the worst possible spot, and I invariably hit it and make the settings change! Argh! I also had no luck with it for g-spot stimulation, and the only times I get it out it is for clit work.
They both seem so worth it, it's hard to just pick one!
Even though I wasn't crazy about GiGi, it seems to do the job for a lot of people, so it might work for you. In fact, I bought it based on all the wonderful reviews. I've come to the conclusion that there is no one toy that will do the trick for everyone. Everyone is VERY different in their tastes and what they need. -
I agree that no toy is good for everyone. I can not get a rabbit vibe that actually works for me by stimulating my clit and vag at the same time. Perhaps its operator error.
Anyway, I love the Gigi. I solved the control issue for me anyway by wiping the lube off the control and my fingers...success. The effectiveness of the Gigi is the vibe plus the design. I don't have the Ella, which is not a vibe but I see it as similar to many of the g spot dils available.

Thank you for viewing Ella – dildo review page!

Sounds like this baby is pretty easy to clean. I've always heard great things about toys made out of silicone. Hmm i'm going to have to try one, one day if possible. Nice review!
Thanks! Silicone toys are great, and very easy to clean and sterilize.
nice review as usual Sammi
I hope you grow to love her!
Mamastoys - thanks!
Lithaewyn - I do enjoy her - if I can figure out the g, it'll definitely be love
I"m crazy curious about this toy. I have GOT to get one.
I thought the knobby end was the g-spot end, though.
I always find that it takes time for me to get used to new toys. And even after I have found my g-spot I am still discovering things about my body. So I guess with time you will find a sure fire way to stimyulate yourself to extasy. Let us know when you get there
. Excellent review!
Carrie Ann,
.
You definitely do
That's what I thought about the ends too, but it talks in the book about the "penis shaped" end and the wide end for g-spot. I couldn't do it either way, but they're both good.
Naughty Student - Thanks!
Someday I'll be able to do it without other stimulation - maybe
Wonderful review!! Thank you!!
Thanks!
Lovely review! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the beautiful Ella. Now I'm itching to get my hands on her.
Thanks!
You should give her a try - I think you'll be happy with her
Yours is one of the reviews that suggest I need to try this toy. I agree that using a bullet with it might help me get a gushing orgasm. Keep up the great reviews.
Thanks!
This is a great toy - I think you will definitely enjoy it.
Okay, that's it i'm buying this toy.
I think you'll like it
Thanks for the comment!
