Use

Liquid Silk is what I would call an all purpose lube. It is good for most things, and excels at vaginal sex. It is not the best choice for fisting or anal sex, and it doesn't taste so awesome so oral sex doesn't mix well with it either. However, in a pinch, it would and does work for *anything* you might want lube for.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Liquid silk has the texture and consistency of a moisturizer (well, a thin moisturizer), so it is easy to handle (not drippy) but also easy to spread. The pump top bottle mixes will with this consistency, making it easy to dispense at will, however, it does not pour. Liquid Silk is aptly named because it feels like silk on your skin, smoothing in to a silky soft finish with enough rubbing. Staying power wise, Liquid Silk is not as long lasting as thick water based lubes, and certainly not as long as silicone lubes.

Taste / Aroma

Liquid Silk tastes as bitter as can be. It is not a sickening flavor, just one that is offensive on the tongue: Sharp Biting Unfortunate. Thankfully, it washes away fast, and is easily overpowered with a flavored lube if washing up is too disruptive to the flow of the fun. There is no smell.

Performance

Liquid silk provides that added extra little oomph to help everything be slick and ready before sex. If you need to reapply, the addition of water will not recharge this lube like many other water based lubes. Because of its formulation, however, Liquid Silk slowly dries down leaving the skin feeling smooth and moisturized, not at all slick or sticky.

Liquid Silk, unfortunately, contains parabens, and is thus not appropriate for anyone with sensitivity issues. I wish Liquid Silk didn't contain parabens, but alas - it does. I like it so much otherwise that I'm willing to compromise on that point, but I sure do wish they would reformulate.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Allergy concerns
    • Reapply often

  • no good?
    • i get the impression that this is crap......
    • Liquid Silk's not a bad lube, but "crap" or "awesome" depends a lot on what you want out of your lube. Like, do you want one for anal play or vaginal? For shower play? Are you a stickler for healthy ingredients?
    • It wasn't bad, but Alan and Michele have a point. What are you trying to get out of the lube?

  • Liquid Silk and Silicone Toys
    • So, while looking through highly rated water based lubes, I came across Liquid Silk. Aside from the bitter taste, no one seems to have any complaints.

However, I noticed that the fourth ingredient is Dimethicone - and I was wondering what everyone's experience with this and silicone sex toys was? Is the silicone in Liquid Silk a small enough portion that it has no effect on toys, or is it generally not recommended for that type of play?

Or does the bonding potential of silicone lubes have more to do with the type/quality of silicone than anything else?
    • That's a really good question because Dimethicone is a silicone.

Basically it should be ok to use as long as the toy is made of medical grade silicone. There should, in theory, be no reaction. I, personally, wouldn't want to test that out on my own toys though. You can do a patch test on a small part of the toy. The reaction should be immediate if there is going to be one.

      Anyone else know about this?
    • I have had liquid silk react to a silicone toy. Which sucks because I love it. :(
