We went last night and had a nice time. Luckily the place it was held served drinks because I don't think I would have made it without them. lol I was super nervous most of the time because of my anxiety, but everyone was very nice and welcoming.
Not sure if we'll be able to go back because my husband usually works well past the time they happen. Hopefully on days he gets off early we may be able to go again and make some new friends. less

My local community has several munches a month, and we usually attend at least one. They can be a lot o un and one can learn a lot at a munch.
We usually have a pot luck dinner before the playroom is open. I love this set up because it lets everyone get comfortable and gives a place to socialize and get to know people before playing.
If you are going with your partner, discuss beforehand what you both would be ok with doing or not doing, and go from there.

If it was a dinner only thing and absolutely no play whatsoever was going on, that is one thing, but if there is any play, alcohol should never be involved, lowering inhibitions and judgement is too dangerous and can cause questioning levels of actual consent.
Many of the activities done at a munch/play party can be life threatening if they go for even a moment too long of one false move is made, so being impaired is never a good idea.
Just my two cents on the topic.

For our community, it is required to go to a munch to meet the host/hostess of the party. However, I was so nervous to go to my first munch that I sat in my car for literally 10 minutes working up the courage to walk in. It was the best decision I have ever made.
