I have never bought a paddle for myself and have only experienced the force of them on few occasions. I would like to start my own collection but wonder which paddles would be best for me and what characteristics should I look for. Any recommendations? These are a few that really interest me. Does it matter if the are cutesy or does the power they exude depend solely on the user?

If you want painful, hard hits, the paddle must be able to withstand that. Most of the paddles you selected were described by the reviewers as "sturdy/well-made" (apart from the spider paddle). So I guess you can with either - pick by your aesthetic tastes.

My husband just picked the purple fur lined slapper out for himself and is really enjoying it. He is a beginner and he likes pain.

I honestly was wondering the same thing, and one of the sweetest guys on EF helped me pick out the Pink Play Heart Paddle. On the contrary to what Diabolical Kitty said, the PPH Paddle has enough bend to give you pain without overwhelming you as a beginner. I am not all that into BDSM but I love a little spanking her and there. That paddle is great and it didn't break or anything. I love love love love it!

the price is right on the heart paddle if you are just starting out and don't want to invest a lot in it if you don't know you'll like it. plus it's adorable!

Well, the first thing to determine is if you like THUD or Sting. If it's the THUD pain you enjoy, then you want something with good surface area and soft - rabbit-fur lined round paddles are good for this, or for warm-up and cool-down. Some floggers can be thuddy as well, but that's a bit of a shift.
If you prefer sting, then I'd suggest something in a strap or slapper. There are other options for even more sting, but usually require more skill (floggers, for instance).
I hope that helps some. If you're not sure which way you prefer, get a double-sided round paddle, which is what I first bought.

Personally, I don't like cutesie things, so I picked the studded one, but that's just a personal preference. If you're not bothered by it, then that's fine!

I just got the Pink play heart paddle. It is my first paddle and I love it.

Personally I would go with the studded, but I would go off of look alone. The round one may be best for you though.

Personally I like the studded one too. Newer to the forums, but have been a sub for 10 years. If I had to say a paddle for someone who likes pain, I'd go with lexan, but they do not offer that here on EF so the next best thing would be the studded one in my opinion. Hope you find what you're looking for!
