Do ropes leave marks on you after play?

Contributor: callsignhusker callsignhusker
I've been wondering this, because I don't want it to look like I abused my partner if we try this LOL

I've heard real silk rope actually causes some pretty serious burns on occasion, Eden carries this one thats great though its called the Fetish Fantasy Series Japanese silk rope We have one and don't think its actually silk givin the price and feel, but its this ultra smooth cotton stuff as far as we know we've had no problems with yet. Definetly worth a try for the price

I have had friction burns from real silk, cotton or a cotton blend is the way to go, I figure

I think it really depends on the type/material of the restraint

I wanted to be a smartass and say "only if you're doing it right" but yeah, it depends on the material, the type of bondage you're doing, how much your partner wiggles around, whether s/he marks easily...

Silk can leave some marks for real. I've had crazy rope marks from actual, real silk rope. Hemp and jute will mark quite a bit as well. To avoid friction burns no matter what type of rope you are using, make sure you are not sliding the rope over the skin as you tie up or untie your volunteer.

We don't play that hard so I rarely ever have marks but it really depends on how you go about it

While silk or nylon will leave less marks.. they aren't as safe because the rope is more slippery. Cotton is the safest. If it's not tied very tight, or over clothes, there probably won't be any marks. If you tie it tight enough for there to be some marks, they shouldn't last too long. I wouldn't worry about it too much! Try it one time at night, then you'll have til morning for them to go away. I really doubt rope would leave marks longer than that.

Rope against the skin will almost always leave compression marks (unless it's completely loose), but those are the kind you get from just something being pressed against your skin. Even the seams on your clothes will leave these kinds of marks, and they're usually gone after a couple of minutes.

Any material can leave marks given the situation but there have been a lot of good ideas given here

Like everyone is saying it really depends on the material of the rope. I would go with a cotton or a silk ^^

Get softer rope and be careful. Usually if you leave marks, they also fade pretty quickly.

There's no other option but that's my choice.
For me it depends on the rope used, how tightly it's applied, how long it's on, and how much I tug at it.
Every time I've used rope though any marks left behind faded in under an hour at the most, and took less than twenty minutes to fade 9 times out of 10.

Sometimes...silk is good but I like rougher play sometimes. Depending on the attire you wear in public, the type of restraining you enjoy, and the type of lifestyle you live, bruises and marks can be manageable...and enjoyable.

yes :3. but it tends to go within a day or so - we don't make them too tight because my neck is sensitive to pressure and makes me ill.

Yes, I've had rope marks, but they fade away within hours.

They have once or twice, but they go away within the day lol Just try it on a weekend when you aren't going any where so you can tell how long they take to go away. If it takes a long time, don't do it on days you are going out or do it in place that won't be seen.

Only if you do it right! But seriously, it really depends. A good play session with rope will almost leave rope indents on your partner's skin, but those will go away shortly after you take the rope off (definitely within the hour). Rope burns are another matter--those can last for much longer--but those can be avoided if you play smart. Don't let the rope rub on your partner's skin too much and make sure not to pull the rope off quickly when you're finished. Aside from that, you shouldn't have any problem not leaving marks. I've been playing for rope with years and I haven't had any rope burn issues to this day.

Not always but most of the time hehe it really depends on the material of your restraints... ive tried many and seem to still get some type of friction burn or bruising though
