I usually like seeing everything during a session, but we've acquired some blindfolds here and there, mostly pack-ins with other toys, and I've been pretty disappointed with those for various reasons. Mostly they either don't fit well, don't blind me, or both. Is this typical of all blindfolds? Should I be looking into a hood instead, or are there more expensive blindfolds that will...well...blind?

This been my experience as well. The elastic is usually quite tight and ends up giving me a headache. You can take your existing units and modify them with a larger elastic band, a couple of quick stitches should solve that problem. But, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that blindfolds are meant to be worn while sitting or standing, not lying down (or moving around while lying down).
