Smelly Leather :(

Contributor: bratofthekitties bratofthekitties
I've held back on posting about this because it is kind of embarrassing and probably my fault but I'm so sick of ruining collars. My leather (diva stars) collar has begun to smell terrible, I assume this is because of neck sweat, somehow I got it wet? it smells mildewy. I've scrubbed it with an old toothbrush using soap, then rubbing alcohol, then nothing over and over but it still smells. Anyone have any advice for cleaning leather? I know there are leather cleaners but I don't want to spend money on something without a glowing recommendation.

Saddle soap or leather oil, using regular soap or rubbing alcohol will just ruin the leather. It'll dry it out and cause it to dry rot.

I'll be interested to hear if you have success and if so what you did. Good luck!

damn!!! fuck me for trusting the website that recommended soap and then rubbing alcohol or vodka...I probably should have realized that was a bad idea. I think I'm going to try baking soda in a pillow case tonight and then perhaps get leather oil because i can't stand the scent of vinegar and I know it'll linger. Thanks everyone I'll share my findings...

Not sure what to tell you. I do not use leather for any purpose. But baking soda could be a good idea.
